Cherry looked pleased to be asked to join them so we spent a couple of hours at our respective games before deciding to call it a day.
“Jenny’s nice isn’t she?” Cherry said as we walked home, so I told her what I knew of her, she said nothing but seemed very quiet until we got home.
“She asked me round her place one night for a drink.”
“What did you say?”
“I said I’d love to.”
“Okay.”
“So you don’t mind?”

“Yes she might.”

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But she’ll have to be quick.”
“Why?”
“Well I own a bit of land complete with planning permission for twenty houses, I was going to ask you to come with me to have a look at it sometime in the next few days.”
“Where is it?”
“The Canary Isles.”
“Where’s that?”
“In the Atlantic ocean about two hundred miles off the west coast of Africa.”
“Is it something you want to do?”
“Yes I think so.”
“Well do it then, you don’t need me”
“Yes I do, you see it’s a bit complicated, my mum and dad owned it, unlike your parents, they’ve always encouraged me to look for you.”

“Were?”
“Yes, mum died two months ago and dad died a week later of a broken heart.”
My voice was starting to crack, she could see I was getting emotional so she came and sat beside me her arms around me.
“They left me everything they had, bless them, they only had a couple of thousand, but dad had bought this land over thirty years ago. He never had the money to develop it, since I won that cash on the lottery, I have and I want to do it.”
“In that case, I want to do it too.”
We spent the next two hours on the internet looking at the island of Gran Canaria, I’d been a few times with mum and dad and I loved it, it was one of the few places on earth with guaranteed sun shine all day all year round.
Crime was strictly low level, topless was the norm on all beaches and there were many nude beaches where within reason anything went!
Cherry was fascinated with it all.
“Do people really have sex on the beach?”
“Well there’s an area called Mas Palomas, it’s a huge stretch of beach with thousands of sand dunes, people can do whatever they want in the dunes.”

The casino was crowded, but since my big win I was well known there and my cheques were accepted without question. I cashed one for two thousand pounds and gave Cherry half of it.
“What am I supposed to do?” she asked.

“You mean twenty one?”
“Yes, well this is blackjack but much the same thing. Watch me for a while and then when you’re ready, just join in.”
I sat down with Cherry behind me and placed a fifty pound chip on the table, I was dealt a King to the dealer’s ten, then I was given a nine.
“Is that good?” Cherry whispered.
“Average.”
I stuck with my cards and the dealer turned up a ten, I’d lost.
After a few more hands I was down two hundred pounds and Cherry decided she’d have a go.
She put a hundred down and was dealt an ace to the dealer’s four, then another ace making a pair.
“Now what?” she asked and I told her to split them and put a hundred on each. She squealed when she was dealt two blackjacks to the dealers fourteen and she picked up five hundred pounds!
Ten minutes later her money was up to nineteen hundred and I was down to five hundred so I wandered over to the roulette wheel where I put the five hundred on black. It came up so I was back to my original stake money of a thousand. I left it on black and collected another five hundred, then I put a thousand on red and collected two thousand when it came up.
We went to the bar then for a drink and she showed me her winnings of a thousand pounds.
“Snap,” I laughed and we wandered back to the tables, we stayed for about two hours and lost steadily until she announced that she was horny and wanted to go home.
“Put your money on zero,” I said and we both put a thousand on zero, a roar went up from the other players when the ball clattered into the zero slot and we were up by seventy thousand pounds!
“My God John,” she laughed as we waited for a taxi. “We’ve just won seventy thousand pounds.”

“Is money an aphrodisiac?” she asked in the taxi on the way home.
“I don’t know, why?”
