Jerry feels the cool night breeze hit her face as she exits the library. She is tired from her long MCAT study session. The streets are quiet this time of night and she is alone. Her sensible shoes clop lightly on the sidewalk.
Given how safe campus is she doesn’t even pay attention to the black SUV which parks in front of her. Suddenly two people dressed in dark black robes jump out. Jerry jumps. She is about to scream when one of the robed people shoves a bag over her head.
Her scream is muffled as she is dragged into the SUV. She smells a foul smell before blackness overtakes her.
She opens her eyes, uncertain of how much time has passed or where she is. Her head throbs. She realizes she is lying on a bed. Across the room is another twin bed. Sitting on it is a girl about her age.
“Hi roomie.” Her voice sounds like thunder. “I’m Barb. You’re probably a bit disoriented from the kidnapping and what not.”
“What? What did you do to me?”
“Me? I didn’t do anything. A couple of black robed thugs kidnapped me yesterday. Its pretty much the same story for everyone here.”
“Where is here?”
“Damned if I know. There’s no cell reception and I spent like eight hours trying to find an exit. It appears we’re trapped.”
A deep masculine voice booms, seemingly coming from nowhere and everywhere at once.
“Students, please come to the assembly hall and your questions will be answered.”
Jerry stands unsteadily. “Well I guess we should find out what’s going on.”
Jerry exits the room, with Barb following. The corridors are stone, like some ancient castle. There are no windows, but every so often a tapestry depicting some disturbing often sexual scene hangs on the wall.
Jerry wonders how the the building is built. There seems to be only one corridor. Finally they enter a large hall. Barb makes a little wow sound. There are at least fifty college age students milling about.
A black robed hooded figure stands on a small stage. It shows no skin, and Jerry swears she sees a pair of red glowing eyes deep inside the cowl.
“Welcome students you are probably wondering why you are here. This is Scolamance. Here you will learn to use dark forces to advance our Master’s agenda. Here there are no rules, except obedience to your professor. Now let the semester begin!”
He claps his hands and the robe falls to the floor, empty. Another flash and a well stocked bar appears. Next to the bar is a smoking dispensary filled with flower and vapes.
Barb’s eyes widen. “Fuck, this is going to turn into one hell of a party.”
Jerry snorts. “There’s no fucking way I’m staying in this madhouse. I’m going back to the room to figure out how to get out of here.”
“Seriously? Don’t go, this should be fun. Besides, the guy girl ratio isn’t good for us. If we don’t hook up we might not get another chance.”
“You sound like you’re staying.”
“No, I just don’t see why we have escape right now. C’mon, stay?”
