Kazuma Sato had saved the life of a beautiful girl, his fellow classmate.

She drew herself up straight as she stood before him and said, "My name is Aqua. I'm a goddess who guides humans who die young to the afterlife. You have two choices." She placed her hands on her hips and seriously, that skirt was excessively tiny, its ruffled nature providing like one percent more coverage over those lovely thighs. She held up one finger, "You can start from square one with a new life, or you can go to heaven and carry on like an old man."
She bent over and played like telling a compelling secret, "To tell you the truth, Heaven isn't the dreamy place you all imagine it to be. Not only is there no TV, there are no manga or games, either. You don't even have a physical body, so you can't do anything sexual, either." She whispered this last and the tone of her voice set off his libido.

The light cut out and she leaned forward a bit to tell him with less theatrics, "Since that's the sort of world it is, everyone refuses to be reborn. So we decided, 'Why not send people who've died in other worlds there with their bodies and memories intact?'"
Kazuma was not impressed and he asked dryly, "What's the point in sending me there if I'm just going to be killed?"
Aqua brightly responded, unaffected by his demeanor entirely, "That's why I'm doing you a big favor! I'm granting you the right to bring any one thing of your choosing with you. It could be a powerful weapon or a tremendous talent. You'll be able to redo your life with all of your original memories. To top it off, you can bring one thing of your choosing! And the people of the parallel world will earn someone battle-ready to help them."
"Not a bad deal, don't you think?"
Kazuma thought about it. Maybe it did sound pretty neat actually. Who didn't want to be the hero? Still, he was pretty much suspicious of this character and he thought about how he could be screwed over.
After a moment he asked her, "Um, I want to ask something. Will I be able to speak this other world's language?"
Aqua had a ready explanation. She talked fast and offered up an official looking guidebook as if the afterlife were some mundane bureaucracy. Apparently, that wouldn't be a problem at all as she'd download the world's language straight into his brain. Except she whispered under her breath about the possibility of this destroying his mind but breezed over his rightful concern like it wasn't that big a deal, "So all that leaves you to do is to choose a powerful ability or piece of equipment!"
"Now choose!" she cried while spinning around with a shower of blue sparkling lights as her hands released a barrage of paper sheets, "I'll grant you one power that is second to none!"
He stared at her with a not quite glare before he shrugged. He got down on all fours and started looking at the descriptions.
