As I approached about two thirds of the way around I noticed a section of the fence had been removed and a new gate had been installed, I checked it then moved on to complete my checks on the outside.
Walking back to the new gate rather than going all the way around the front and in the side gate at the front seemed like a logical way to go as it was quicker.
I was hoping that the rest of the gardens and outside of the property were equally maintained. I can hope for an easy day once in my life.
I entered the gardens from the new gate to find the lawn as neat as I have ever seen it, the borders in immaculate condition without a weed to be seen.
I started to walk the interior of the fence but gave up after only 40 metres as it was clear someone had really been looking after the whole garden.
With little to do other than check the state of the decking, paths and paintwork I walked towards the house.
The decking and other areas of the gardens were in keeping with the rest and were all painted, treated and well kept.
Now although I own these properties I let them through an agency and as far as my tenants are concerned
I am just the maintenance man and gardener. I was always in shorts and t-shirt when the weather was good and didn't see any reason to change.
So to see the outside of this property looking so good was extremely pleasing to myself.
Most tenants get the choice of looking after the gardens themselves or paying a little extra whereby i would go around on regular visits to do the maintenance and gardens.
Few ever paid the extra and few bothered to look after the gardens leading to large bills and lots of work when they moved on, so this was a sign to me that I had a good tenant for once and fingers crossed no big bills to put the place right if or when they moved on.
I was walking around the side of the house thinking that I might as well just go home and have an early day but the side gate was locked. Although not unusual they did know I was coming around and were meant to leave the side unlocked for my access.
No big problem as I just turned to use the new gate at the back of the property. Just as I turned, I heard a car pull up on the drive, thinking that this was the tenants and that they might have come back to unlock the side gate for my visit
I went back to the gate. I was wrong as peering through the gate I saw my agent turn up in his car, before I could call him to unlock the gate for me a lady walked out of the house and launched herself at him.
Her arms were around him pulling him in for a very passionate kiss. Now I know he is married but not to this lady, and I know that this lady is married but not to him.
I stood there not wanting to shout out, not able to move, just stood there like a rabbit in headlights.
It wasn’t long before I heard them enter the house and in what seemed like seconds exit the rear of the property via the patio doors leading onto the decking area and into the gardens. Now I was running through my head my options.
A. Shout out to them warning them of my presence.
B. Try to get over the gate without them hearing me.
C. Try to skirt the gardens and exit via the rear gate without them seeing me.
I opted for the last and slowly started to work my way around the rear of the gardens until I came across a large berberis blocking my exit path. I tried to get around the back of it but was getting cut up by the thorns so decided to see if I could get around the front without them noticing. After looking back to see where they were, I noticed that they were now in the middle of the lawn. This was without a doubt the worst place they could be for me. I was stuck. Not able to move forward, and unable to go back I sat down and tried to figure a way out of this without causing any problems.
