“It is a good job you don't want to spy on us you are actually quite good. I don't know what is on here but it might be something we can pass on to the police if we are right about this guy. Quentin has quite a few important friends and we are seeing if they can do anything for you family..”
The flash pen was of course passed to Mark who found that there was some further security on some areas but they didn't survive the resources he could throw at them. The results were very interesting.
Miriam's boyfriend was a long distance lorry driver who habitually drove refrigerated trucks The company he worked for was none other than the haulage firm that Sal had been asked to investigate by the auditors. The really interesting part was that neither the boyfriend or the truck appeared anywhere in the companies records. All the paperwork was provided but none of it appeared in the accounts. Also there was a strange bit of software that Mark said seemed to be a control device for an electronic door. It was only after some further digging through various documents that it became clear that this was something in the truck.
Two days before Christmas the driver boarded a ferry at Dover at the start of a trip to Russia. Whilst the vehicle decks were closed the lorry was accessed by officials. Low and behold a door opened to a secret compartment inside which was a bed as well as storage. It was all built into the refrigeration equipment and had the waste heat pumped through it for heating. It was well electronically screened and would have been near undetectable. A message was sent to Quentin thanking him very much the vehicle was allowed on its way but would be intercepted on the return channel crossing.
This gave them some days grace to help Miriam and her family. Crispin called her into the office
“Right you have helped a lot of people with that flash pen not least yourself. It seems very likely that when you boyfriend tries to come back into the country he will e caught red-handed smuggling. What is more Quentin's friends are willing to mount an operation to get your family out of Syria. They are to go to a specific location in Government held territory they will be met and taken out.
“Why would they do so much for me.”
“If I am honest I don't exactly know other than Quentin has some very influential friends who will be trading favours. That plus the rescuers take great pleasure in annoying the Syrians. In addition I know that assets cannot be got out of Syria but if you mother will trust us and give us details we will see if we can get some out.”
“My father was quite wealthy before he was killed and mu mother is not stupid if you can find away around the restrictions I think we will be quite comfortable.”
“Good Sal and our friend Mark do some amazing things. Now you are also going to disappear from your flat. On the 28th December you should take a case and head to Heathrow. However instead of departures you will go to arrivals and meet a flight from Jamaica. We have friends on that flight and you will simply come home as part of that party. If these spies are at least moderately competent it will look if you have left the country. One last thing your mother will need to give a recognition word. They will say wicked and your mother will complete it with step-mother.
