"Hey Luke! Good luck!"
Who called to me? Luke wondered as he looked at the high school
hall jammed with kids. He then noticed it was Lesley, the captain
of the cheerleading squad. Luke was only a freshman, but was
dating Lesley since Jr. High.
"You're late!" Coach Dial shouted as Luke made into the boys
locker room. "Change and get out on the court!"
"Sorry coach." Luke said as he changed into a white tank top and
a pair of red shorts. He went out onto the court and saw Lesley
on the bleachers with a smile. He saw some other guys at the far
end, taking three point shots. Balls bounced off each other as
Luke grabbed one and swished it right in.
"A good three points." Sabrina, his sister said from the shadows.
She glared with hate in her eyes because he was such an athletic
love machine while she was clumsy and awkward. She always wished
that he was her younger brother that she could pick on instead of
being a year older. He was 15 and she was 14.
After gym class, he went to his locker door. He stepped back and
admired the lettering: LUCKY 7.
"What gives?" Luke said as he tried to open the door, but it
wouldn't budge.
"The janitor broke the door by accident yesterday." Coach said he
led Luke across the room. "We sent it in for repairs, until then
this will be your new one."
"Locker 13?" Luke asked as opened the door and saw the biology
lab's missing skeleton head rolling out onto the floor.
"I wondered where'd that went last semester." The coach said.
"Mr. Slide will be glad to get this back."
"You really need to stop obsessing on your brother." Maggie said
as she caught up with Sabrina in the hall. "Just because his
girlfriend beat you out for captain of the cheerleading squad.
You need to have fun instead."
"I don't have time." Sabrina muttered as she walked off. "I need
to volunteer for the adopt a friend program so that I can raise
my community and social standards."

"He's late." Sabrina muttered in the mall as she looked at her
watch. Then saw this geek in loose, food stained clothes walk up
to her. "There you are. Just don't pick your nose around me."
"No problem." Steve smiled. "As long as after the date we have
ourselves a goodnight kiss."
"Good night kiss?" Sabrina thought. "Is taking pity on those
worst off than me the best way to become popular? Being seen with
someone this bad has to make me look good."
She never felt so embarrassed; he slurped his ice cream while she
licked in a lady like manner. He touched her with his sticky
hands, dragging her to a hat store, buying the worst hats he
could think of. Soon he had her carrying his bags through the
mall.
"What are you doing with such a geek?" Lesley giggled as she
walked up to them. "You're even a bigger loser than I first
thought."
Sabrina felt terrible but was a person of her word. She even
allowed him to get their photo taken together. As she passed the
jewelry store, she saw a necklace she really liked around the
necklace of a Sensational Swimwear mannequin.

As she passed through the halls the next day, everyone was
starring and giggling at her. Lesley had spread the rumor that
she was dating one of the biggest geeks in school. She couldn't
believe it when she learned that the adopt a friend program on
the school bulletin board have been put up by her brother as a
joke and taken down the moment she signed up for it.
"Luke!" Sabrina screamed as she stormed into the house and saw
him sitting in the living room. "If I didn't think I could show
my face in school before, you really did it now. Even plastic
surgery and moving to a new school wouldn't save me!"
"I know!" Luke laughed as he went up to bed and she went out on
the porch lawn chair. As she lay down and stared up at the sky
she saw a shooting star. "I wish I was the older sister who could
really get back at him."
The next day, a pair of shaven legs swung out from under a floral
bedspread and placed it pink painted toes on a pig rug. As Luke
sat up and stretched he felt an odd breeze between his legs. He
noticed how small his hands and legs were and screamed.
"Luke what is it?" Sabrina shouted as she ran from her bedroom
and stopped in her tracks. She saw an eight year old girl
starring up at her in a pink nightshirt with female cartoon
character on the front. "I don't believe it. Wishing upon that
star really worked."
"You did this to me!" Luke shouted as he tried to stand up only
to be shoved onto the bed by his now older sister.
"That's right, Luke." Sabrina giggled. "Maybe we'll call you
Linda now. You need to get dressed for school."
A short time later, Linda turned in front of the mirror in a red
puffy sleeve dress with white lace, tights and a pair of clogs.
"I look silly." Linda said embarrassed about her new look.
"You look lovely." Sabrina smiled as she smooth out the wrinkles.
"You need to hurry to breakfast before you're late for school."
"Do I have to wear these tights?" Linda asked. "They're cutting
off the circulation to my legs and my toes feel like their being
fused together."
"You just need to get use to them." Sabrina ridiculed her new
sister. "Come on, let's get going."
"Luke! Sabrina!" their mom asked. "You ready for..."
"I know this is hard to believe." Sabrina couldn't hold back the
giggles. "I made a wish upon a star last night to be the older
sister and it worked."
"So this, this is..." their mom stuttered.
"Linda, my new little sister." Sabrina smiled as they went down
to breakfast.
When Sabrina went to high school she found herself little miss
popular. Every cute guy and girl was being sincerely friendly
toward her. Without an older brother to embarrass her, none of
her embarrassing moments like the day before had ever happened in
her life. What really made her day was seeing Lesley in a baggy
sweater, ankle length skirt and saddle shoes. Sabrina was now
head cheerleader while Lesley was a geek without Luke around to
make her popular.
"This can't get any better." Sabrina said as a girl her age
walked up to her.
"It can." The girl purred into her ear. "I'm Josie. I was working
in Sensational Swimwear when I heard how you wished your life
could be."
"Then the star..." Sabrina started.
"Had nothing to do with it." Josie smiled as her eye pupils
glowed red. "By the way, we're lovers in this new reality."
"I'm not into women!" Sabrina backed away and walked off without
seeing the look of hatred on Josie's face.
"We'll see about that." Josie grinned.

In elementary school Linda was getting use to the easy work and
being a girl now. Everyone laughed at her when she kicked off her
shoes and did a flip on the jungle gym bar in her dress. Everyone
seeing under it.
When Linda got home she told her mother how terrible her day went
and how embarrassed she felt. Her mother was going through her
closet with clothes scattered about the bed and floor. She was
only half listening since she was a host at her newly popular
daughter's barn dance at the edge of town.
"I wish I had a dress to wear." Linda's mom said, not noticing
Josie's image in the bedroom mirror as she grinned wickedly and
her eyes glowed while casting a spell.
Linda stepped forward to and went to speak but no words came out.
Then her legs collapsed under her and she dropped together. She
watched as her legs fused together and seemed to become one with
the dress she had on. Her arms rose up and vanished into the
dress sleeves and her head in the dress collar.
Her mother then turned around and saw a new dress on the floor
she hadn't notice before. "That one is perfect." The mother said
as all memory and evidence of more than one daughter had left the
world and the family. She slipped Linda over her head and Linda
was glad to be in an almost human shape again. She was forced to
move as her mother moved inside of her. With one last admiring
glance in the mirror, she went to meet her now popular daughter
at the barn.
"Have to remember to thank that nice Josie for the new dress the
next time she dates my daughter." She said to herself, though she
didn't know why. She just stepped into her shoes and purse and
headed off to the dance, not knowing how the movements of her
