Chapter Six
"So y'all haven't had eggs or bacon since you've been
here?" Karen asked from across the breakfast table.
"Most of the perishables," Jason began, "ran out soon
after the electricity stopped working and we really haven't
had the people power to generate a farm. But now with more
of us we may be able to pull off raising some domesticated
livestock and crops that is if we can find any."

them all. And with the other affluent houses within a mile
there should be no shortage of housing. They discussed
finding livestock and cattle and the fact that fences had
to be erected and coups built for the poultry. Rachel
remembered there being several egg farms up towards Jackson

in the more rural areas just north of the coast. They
needed a couple of tractors and farming implements,
fencing, fence posts, and countless other things to make
the farm successful. Charlotte got out a pad and pencil and
began making lists. Her engineer's mind whirling away at
the logical task of acquisition and application. She seemed
quite pleased to be doing something analytical. Rachel
assisted with where she thought things may be located or
the local source prior to the epidemic. By the time they
were finished with breakfast there was a plan and the
decision to break up into teams to acquire the things that
they needed. Tomorrow, Charlotte, Jenny, and Rachel would
head to Biloxi and Gulfport to try and find tractors,
building supplies, and fencing. And Tim, Karen, and Jason
would be heading out towards Jackson to find the poultry
farm and to see if there was anything in between that they
could use.
The day came and went with the six of them wandering
around the large house and getting to know one another.
Jenny and Rachel wandered off past the barn, walking
through the wooded area behind the house. They hadn't seen
each other in so long and had a lot to catch up on.
"Why do you wear those hot things?" Asked Jenny had
