love with each other. They were married a little over three years.
He was a successful novelist with three books published and his
publisher after him to complete his fourth. She was a teller at a

They had just been out to eat. He brought her up to date on the
negotiations to make his second novel into a movie. They went to
see a movie. They were walking out when she kidded him about seeing

When she got home she noticed immediately that he had cleaned the

At supper he told her he couldn't concentrate on his work because

went to try to get some writing done. His ribs were hurting and the

He went and poured himself another cup of coffee. He turned on

He turned off the television and pondered whether he should call

immediately put through to someone who identified himself as
Lieutenant Harris. The lieutenant asked his name and address and
told him he would be there in ten minutes.

The lieutenant asked, "Would you like me to talk to her? Maybe I

He said he would appreciate it, if he could change her mind he
would be forever in his debt. When he told the lieutenant that he
was a writer and told him the three books he had published the

very much. He asked if he brought them if Joel would autograph
them. Joel agreed.
When the lieutenant found out she was home usually about four
thirty he told Joel he would be there around that time. After he
left Joel felt better knowing that someone else felt he could do
nothing to help Julie. He became more and more sure that the
lieutenant could convince Julie to change her mind about him.
About three he started having doubts whether anyone could change
Julie's mind. He knew Julie could get set in her ways sometimes and
it was near impossible to change her mind once she had it set.
He wanted her in the best mood possible so he went and put some
lipstick on just before she was to get home. He was nervous when he
heard he garage door open. She came in and told him he looked nice.
She seemed in a better mood.
Just then the doorbell rang. Joel looked surprised and went to
open the door. It was Lieutenant Harris. Joel called Julie to the
living room.
When the introductions were made Lieutenant Harris said, "I want
you to know we caught all of the men who attacked you and your
husband. They are all in jail and will be charged tomorrow. Your
husband has agreed to testify against them. What I would like is if
you would agree to testify against them also. I understand you
didn't think we could catch them. Well, we did our part and now I
am asking you to do your part. Could you do me a favor and turn
channel six on the television. They are going to show a video I
think you will find interesting. "
Julie turned the television on to channel six. The early news was
just starting. The lieutenant told her would see them in a video
and to watch her husband. The video started a couple of minutes
later. Julie watched and saw herself kick the man. She also
watched her husband who looked like he was trying to twist somewhat
without luck. The video ended and the lieutenant told her she could
turn the TV off. She did.
The lieutenant told her, "The man who was holding the knife to
your husbands throat is wanted for two other killings. We have
enough witnesses to be able to say he will probably be sentenced to
life in prison. What we would like is your testimony so that it may
sway the judge to make it life without parole. Would you agree to
testify what happened from your perspective?"
She agreed and then the lieutenant continued, "I don't like to
get mixed up in family affairs but I want to tell you your husband
is no pussy as you called him. I am positive that if he had given
any more resistance than he did, tonight you would be looking at
him in a funeral home? Would that have been enough for you to not
think of him as a pussy. I think he is a courageous man. I am not
saying that to cover for him, I am saying that because one person,

your husbands throat and got his throat slit for fighting back. We
have four witnesses that are going to testify to that. What I am

remember that the police don't catch everyone but we do sometimes
get lucky and catch those who need to be taken off the streets for

He was gone and Julie sat there thinking about what he had said.
She never thought any of those toughs were killers. She replayed
the video in her mind and saw Joel twisting some but not getting
anywhere. She knew she was wrong she didn't know what to do about
it.
She went into the kitchen and started a light supper. She felt
like crying but didn't. When supper was ready she called Joel. He
came and soon they were sitting eating.
She said, "That police officer was quite convincing. He gave me
a feeling of confidence. I was surprised you didn't stay in the
room. Why didn't you?"
He told her, "He talked to me this morning after I called him. I
saw the video on the news and they said the police were looking for
us. I waited, then decided to call. He was very nice and asked
about when he could talk to you. He didn't say talk to us, he said
talk to you, so I left you alone with him. By the way he is one of
the fans of my books."
She said, "I imagine you are looking forward to a shower tonight.
Can I make a suggestion, and that is, why don't you take a long
relaxing bath tonight instead of a shower. I think it will be

"I think I will. The longer I take the longer I will be out of

freedom he now had. He hadn't heard Julie go past the bathroom door
so he figured she was waiting for him to get done so she could help
him get the girdle and corset back on. He finally decided it was
time to get out of the tub. He got out and toweled himself off. He
took a deep breath and headed for the bedroom.
He was in the doorway and saw Julie sitting on the edge of the
bed waiting for him. He looked closer and saw she had tears in her
eyes. He asked her what was wrong.
Sobbing, she said she was waiting to help him get dressed. She
grabbed a pajama bottom and held it for him to step into. She
pulled it up and he saw it was a pair of his regular pajamas. Then
she helped him with the top. When he had it on she buttoned it.
She hadn't said anything yet, just sobbed.
Finally shakily she said, "I was wrong! I am so sorry! Can you
ever forgive me? I don't know why I didn't listen to you. I just
was so upset that I thought you let that animal man handle me and
grope my body. I am so sorry I took it out on you. What can I do to
make it up to you?"
He stood there and smiled and said, "Well that isn't going to be
easy. I'll have to think about it. It might take several days for
me to come up with something, or there is something you can do
right now to atone for everything."
Julie said, "Name it, I'll do it!"
He said, "Well if you really want to get it taken care of right
now then I guess you better give me a kiss."
She said, "A kiss, that's it!"
He said, "Yes a kiss. You haven't kissed me since we were in the
movie. I think that's what I missed the most."
She said, "What about what I did to you?"
He said, "Well first Corinthians Chapter 13 tells us what love is
all about. I couldn't hate you for doing what you did. You had to
recover from the attack in your own way and I can see that. I don't
know what finally changed your mind but I am glad you are back to
being the wife I love."
She said, "That police officer started me thinking and I didn't
know how to tell you I am sorry."
He said, "Well, I think you did a great job of letting me know
you are sorry. I can accept that, now how about another kiss."
He was glad to get out of those accursed clothes and she was glad
to have her husband, her hero back.
