The Colonel was sitting at his desk reading a report, dated for today 8-26-2059. He wasn't a huge man at 5' 9", 195 pounds, blue eyes, short stubby black hair, 35 years old; but there is little fat on the colonel. Mills always wondered why The Colonel is still a colonel. Colonel Hamilton is considered the one of the best shock troopers in the U.A.E. (United America Empire). His ability with the BHA system (Bracelet Heavy Amour) is unparalleled. William also commands the elite unit call the black dragoons. And to top all that off, he is the heir to the Hamilton house sit. His only real problem was his power hungry mother, The Lady Jean Hamilton. Lady Hamilton is well know as a world class schemer. "My lord colonel, there is a call from your mother on your com," said private Mills, "and General Smith wants to see you in his tent." "Thank you Private, tell the general that I will be right there," the colonel said. Mills salutes and dunks out of the tent. Colonel William turns on the com unit sitting on his desk. "Hello mother, what can I do for you this fine day," William said entirely to chipper. Lady Hamilton replied, "Don't talk to me that way, you know full well why I am calling. Your sister's wedding is in a little over a week." "That I do, mother," said William. "I just talked to her a few days ago to congratulate her." "So when are you getting here? Your not going to miss your sister's wedding are you?" hissed his mother. "Well mother I just cant see getting away from the war any time soon," replied William. Angry Jean said, "Don't give me that bull, the war will go on just fine with out you." Hoping to for stall her, "It's not the easy mother! I cant just up and leave any time I want to. I am a Colonel in the ARMY mother. And I am sad to say my duty here has to come first." "So much like your father," Lady Hamilton said sadly. "I have talked to your General Smith. He assures me that the army can last with out you. I expect you to be here some time tomorrow." Then there was a loud click of a phone crashing down on the base, and the phone call ended. Not knowing what to do about his mother, William gets up and heads out to see what the general wanted. As he was walk through the camp William forgot about his conversation with his mother, by thinking about tomorrow's assault on the enemy strong hold near Panama. The colonel saw the guards at the General's tent and known he was in. Saluting, William said, "Colonel William Hamilton here to see General Robert Smith." One of the guards sticks his head into the tent, says a few words and motions William to enter the tent. As William enters the tent The General said, "Bill come in, Good timing I just finished up talking to the commander of the fifth infantry. Tomorrow's assault is going to be a piece of cake." "Don't be too sure about that Rob. The defenses are quite formability," reply William. Laughing the General said, "Really it will be. We have air Supremacy, and they have no power, food, or water. They will give up without much of a fight. And speaking of tomorrow, I talked to your mother." William look every unhappy, "Sorry you had to go through that Rob." "She is one hell cat of a woman. I told her you were needed for the assault tomorrow. I couldn't just send a soldier home without orders to do so, even if that soldier's sister is getting married," the general said look a bit upset now. "You know what she told me and I quote 'William is the future head of House Hamilton. He has a duty to attend his sister's wedding, and hell or high water he will be there.' end quote." Worried William said, "Sorry about that Rob. I tried to tell her the I was needed here but she just wouldn't listen." "But that's not the end of it. Not 10 minutes later I got urgent orders Emperor Washington. Yes THE EMPEROR WASHINGTON! Ordering you to Washington DC. I sure as hell know your mother isn't that powerful. So who the hell is your sister marring?" William took a big breath. "She is marring Prince Joseph Washington third in line for the throne." The general was dumb fonded. "Why in the name of the gods didn't you tell me earlier?" William said, "I just haven't had time. It's been battle after battle sense I found out." "Well Bill needless to say your current orders have changed. There is a cargo plane leaving in 60 minutes. You are to be on that plane and back home by tomorrow. And Bill tell your sister congratulations for me," saluting Rob said. On the way back to his tent, William sees private Mills. "Private!" Saluting Mills replied, "Yes, sir!" "Get the dragoons together in 30 minutes. I have important news for them," ordered William. William watched as the private ran off at a dead run. When William got back to his tent, he started packing. He had his orders. He may not like then, but they came from the emperor himself. That means there was no way around these orders. As William pack his anger began to rise. How could his mother do this to him. She'd known how much his men meant to him. To get the emperor to pull him out the day before a big battle was unforgivable. He knew well that it wasn't going to be an easy battle. Rob was just trying to make it easer for him to follow orders. William was just about finished packing. When Mills stuck his head in the tent "The dragoons are ready sir." "Good private, I will be out in a minute," replied William. Finishing packing only took a couple of minutes. Throwing his bag over his shoulder, he head out of his tent. "Private Mills! Where is the Colonel?" bark LT Colonel Wesley "daywalker" Snipes. He got his name from the fames actor. His mother was a huge fan. He got the nickname because he looks like the actor as well. "He is in his tent, Sir. He said he will be out in a minute," replied Mills. "Do you have any idea why he called us to getting all a suddenly ?" ask Snipes. Just then the Colonel walked out of his tent. "Ok everyone, I have an announcement to make. I have been ordered back home for a few weeks. Lt Colonel Snipes will be in charge until I get back. I know everyone here will do there best while I am gone. Watch your backs and the backs of your squad members, Fight with Honor and valor, dismissed. Private Mills get a car ready. Lt Colonel Snipes I need to speak to you," William said then turned and head back into his tent. Following the Colonel, Snipes headed into the tent. "Sir why have you been ordered home the day before a major battle?" said as soon as he entered the tent. "HA you won't like it the answer to that question Wes. But the orders come strait from the emperor" answered William. "let me guess this has something to do with your mother" Wes looking very unhappy. Still angry himself William said "Yes and no, I was ordered back from my sister's wedding. But I am sure that mother had a lot to do with the timing. Any how there is nothing for us to do about it but follow our orders." "I understand sir" said a still unhappy snipes "It just a bad time to one of our BHA users. This will leave just me and Corporal Benning." "I know. Please keep my unit intact while I am gone. Everyone's survival is top priority. Now I have to leave to make my plane on time." said William as he stood to leave. "Take Private Mills with as our honor guard. We can live without one man, and he maybe of help." Snipes saluted William as he left the tent. Thinking to himself that they were screwed. Outside, William shouted "Private Mills." "here, sir" replied Mills. "get your things you're coming with me" William told Mills. "Corporal Benning I am going to need a driver" William shouted again. "Yes sir, I will drive you myself sir" stated the corporal. Minutes later William was boarding the air craft. When the corporal said " Colonel please take me with you. You may need my strength" "There is no way I would take one of the two remaining BHA users in the unit the day before a major op. If I didn't have to go I wouldn't. And don't take this the wrong way, but if I can't defend myself at my sister's wedding then you're not going to be able to help." "I understand sir. I would just feel better if you were taking someone who had more experience then Private Mills" Said a concerned Corporal. "We both know that the private is well trained, his knowledge of how nobility's works well be of help, and the fact we need all our experienced soldiers in the op tomorrow. Take care of my men corporal " replied the colonel. "Understand Colonel, have a safe flight and don't let these flyboys get to you" laughed the corporal as he saluted. William closed the door to the plane "Private Mills find a seat this is going to be a long flight." The C-930 is a state of the art cargo plane. It can carry over a hundred thousand pounds of cargo, but it can still only flew at a mer 600 MPH. It was design to lift massive amounts of men, supplies, and equipment not speed. William made his way slowly to the cockpit of the plane. He wanted to know if and/or when he would have to change plane. He drought that this plane would take him all the way to Washington, DC where the wedding would take place. When William got to the cockpit, he knocked on the door and waited. He felt the plane move. "Come in" shouted one of the pilots. Entering William saw the the plane had 4 pilots :the captain, co-pilot, navigator, and the flight engineer. "Greetings, William Hamilton" said William as he stuck his hand out. "What do you want? We are very busy right now and you need to find a seat until we get to cruising altitude." replied the captain grumpily. Upset now "Sorry Cap, I didn't know you couldn't do two things a once. It's not like I have a right to know when we are going to land next. I will head back to the passenger area and wait until we get to altitude. Be sure and inform me when you have more time to chat" William turned and left before the captain could reply. Captain Frank Yeager grumbled as he steered his plane on to the run way "who the hell does he think he is? Coming in here and bitching like that. It's not like he some high and mightily lord or any thing. Common soldiers should have more respect for officers." The co-pilot said "Your kidding right sir?" shocked at what he just heard. "No, why?" replied the captain. "That's Colonel William Hamilton next in line for the high seat of house Hamilton and commander of the Black Dragoons" the stunned co-pilot stated. Slamming his hand onto his head "One of these days I am going to learn to keep my big mouth shut" Sitting down next to Mills, William let out a long very slow breath. "Did you find out where our next stop is? Sir" ask Mills. "No private I just pissed off the pilot. Dam flyboys have attitudes" stated William. They both felt the plane leave the ground. William noticed that Mills didn't look very well, " are you ok Private?" "Sorry Sir, I don't like planes. All this up and down and bouncing around" replied Mills sickly. "Be glad that we are not on one of the high speed transports. Mach 10 can be very unsettling" Laughed William. "Sir May I ask you a question?" ask Mills. "You just did" Laughed William at his own joke "but you may ask another one. " "I was wondering why yours bracelet is pink. It seems odd that a weapon of war is pink" ask Mills. "Well Its kind of complicated. But I will simplify it for you. When a BHA system is made they are clear. They look much like a large ring of plastic. It's not until they are bonded to there user that they get there color. At the time of bonding the bracelet takes the color of the users soul. After being bonded the bracelet changes to look like a ring of stone the color of the users soul. Mine just happens to be pink. If you ask any mage she will tell you every person has a unique color to there soul. The mages don't know why one persons soul color is the color it is. " answered William. "Sir didn't you get teased lot about the color of your bracelet? " ask mills. "yes quite often when I was at the academy. They used to call girlie pansy, gay, and all sorts of mean and nasty names. But that slowly faded as my skill with the BHA increased. Its amazing how quick kids stop picking on you when you can operate a near invincible armor system" laughed William as he remember his childhood. "So you got your bracelet when you were young?" said Mills "Yes I was only 12 at the time. I have a very powerful soul I have been told. That is why I was able to use the BHA 10 years before most people. " William told Mills William could feel that the plane had been flying level for a while now " I am going see if the captain will talk to me now. Looks like he isn't going to tell me anything unless I drag it out of him" William turns to walk to the cockpit, and saw Captain Yeager standing right behind him. "Why hello captain, I was just on my way to see you." stated a surprised William. "Hello Colonel, Sorry about before I didn't know who you were. It's not often we get officers on board. Most people of important use on of the supper sonic transports" said Captain Yeager. "No I should have waited until we were air born" replied William happy that the captain was going to be easier to deal with, " so when and were are we going to land Captain. " "Colonel this is a non-stop flight to DC. I don't know who you pissed off to get a 5 hour flight on a cargo plane?" ask Captain Yeager. William laughed "that is a long story. To make it short I pissed off my mother . She then went and pissed off Emperor Washington. Who then ordered me on to this plane." Yeager said "Well try and enjoy the fight. We don't have much but there is a little bit of snacks in..." As Yeager was in mid sentence the warning lights came on. Yeager pushes a button on his helmet mic "What the hell is going on?" Yeager listens to the speaker in his helmet and then turns to the colonel "Looks like an enemy air craft has a lock on us. I have to get back to the cockpit. " Then Yeager hurries out the door. "Say here, I am heading to the cockpit. I need to know what is going on" said William as he headed towards door. Seconds later William was stepping into cockpit. "Whats happening? Where is our fighter escort?" Bark William "They have just engaged the enemy fighters." Yeager said as a big fire appeared on the left side. " Shit he was one of ours" "Sir, two more of our escorts have been shot down. That leaves us with just one sir" said a very scared navigator. "how many enemy fighters are left?" ordered William. "just one, sir" replied the navigator. "Well then we have nothing to worry about. It's an even fight one vs one. I will always bet on our people in a fair fight." stated William. A very long two minutes later "YEA, He got him Sirs" shouted a very happy navigator. "Told you to always bet on our guys in an even fight. Can you get me into radio contact with that fighter?" ask William. "Sure thing" stated the flight engineer. "you have a secured UAE channel" "This is Colonel William Hamilton to the UAE fighter on our left side" William said into the mic. "This is Lieutenant Thomas Cruise of the Silver Lightings. Good to hear you are safe Colonel. " replied back LT Cruise. "Dam fine work Lieutenant. Everyone over here is very grateful to you for your assistance. Do you know where the hell they came from I though we had control of the skies?" questioned William "We do Colonel. They came from an old air field in the south. That's about all I know right now. But you can be sure I will find out" answered LT Cruise. "Sorry about your wing men. Good luck and good hunting lieutenant" ended William . The rest of the flight was uneventful. They landed in DC on time. Just after they landed Captain Yeager came into the passenger's compartment " Hello Colonel Welcome to Washington, DC. It was a more exciting flight then I would have liked, but we are here. Good luck and tell your sister congratulations." "Thank you Captain all in all it was a bad flight." Said William A sickly Mills laughed "Just like the old saying 'any flight you can walk away from is a good flight, sir" "Well good luck to you both I need to get this plane refuel and loaded for the flight back. " said captain Yeager. William and Mills exited the air craft. As they were walking down the cargo ramp, there was a loud bang. William found himself on the ground in a daze. His left shoulder hurt. Private Mills was laying on top of him trying to protect him from another shot. It was then that you know he was shot. It was unthinkable. Here he was in the heart of the empire shot by what he had to guess was a sniper. "We need to get you to some cover, Sir. The sniper might take another shot" stated Mills. Mills could see a hole in his commanders left shoulder. Panicking Mills said "We need to get you too a doctor sir" "Please get off me Private" said William. When Mills didn't move William repeated himself "Get off me Private." Mills slowly moves. As soon as Mills was off him, William activated his BHA. It took only millisecond for the armor to flow from the bracelet to cover his body. The armor covers William head to toe looking much like one solid piece of stone. The BHA leaves William will almost no features , he looks like a store mannequin. As William stood up, he felt a second shot hit him in the forehead. Shouting William said "Mills, get back into the plane and have Captain Yeager call for some back up. I am going to get this bastard. " Then William felt a Third shot this time to the throat. Luckily for William it takes a lot more the a sniper rifle to harm a BHA system. "Sir we both need to find cover" Shouted Mills to the back of a running William. Filled with rage William run. He though he saw a flash on that third shot. It was just inside a hanger door about 1500 feet off. How could someone attack him at an airport in Washington? "I hate snipers" thought William. They hide and attack before you can see them. Then run off to hide some more. There is no honor in that kind of combat. But he know full well, they can be very useful in war. Was this guy here to kill me or is he just some terrorist. When William got to the hanger door all he found was a old custom made sniper rifle. With no sign as where the sniper ran off too all William could do is scream in rage. After a minute or two William collapsed to the ground and wait for the medics to arrive. Two minutes later the medics show up. "sir we need you to deactivate your armor so we can treat your wound" said the first medic. "That wouldn't be a good idea. My armor is stopping the bleeding at the moment " stated William. "He has a point. From what I know about the armor it becomes a second skin. If he were to deactivate it then he might bleed to death before we get him to the hospital" agreed the second medic William was then help into the back of an ambulance. William saw Mills try and push his way into the ambulance. One of the medics said "Hay you can't go in there" "But he is my commander, I need to go with him. I need to protect him as much as I can or the other members of our unit will kill me " replied a distressed Mills . "It's ok , Private Mills must to come with me" ordered William. 10 minutes later the ambulance arrived at Washington General hospital. The medics quickly help William into the ER. William start to feel every light headed as the medics were taking him through the door. William fell taking the two medics with him as he did. "I think I was hit much worse then I first though" stated William. William got up and walk a few more step before falling again. "damn I know we should have made him lay on the gurney" muttered the first medic. The two medics picked William up and carried him the rest of the way and laid him on one of the tables. Just as a doctor walk up to the table. The doctor looked William over and said "Sir I am doctor Lakes. I need you to deactivate your armor or I won't be able to help" A wobbly William said " are you ready doctor? This wound is a lot worst then I first thought. My armor is the only thing keeping me from losing blood" Doctor Lakes nodded her head. William deactivate his BHA. With in seconds blood pored over the table and on to the floor. Doctor Lakes began to give orders to her staff as doctors do in the ER. The world went black for William. William slowly woke for his wound induce slumber. He was in a single bed hospital room. He didn't hear any beeping or any thing, so he mustn't be in too bad of shape. William tried to sit up but stop when he felt the sharp pain in his side. Laying back, he just stared at the ceiling. After a while he realized that someone else was in the room. Looking over William saw his mother sitting reading something off her PDA. "Hello mother, you're looking well" he whispered. "Hello son. How are you feeling" asked Lady Hamilton as she turned to face her son. "Like I have been shot" laughed William. "Are my sisters ok? If those bastards got to me ..." worried William. "They are both find. I drought who ever shot you will go after them. The police still haven't found out who wanted you died or if he was even really after you" William's mother told him. "What time is it? How long was I a sleep?" William ask as he try to get up again. He managed to sit up with his legs hanging over the side before his shoulder screamed in pain. "Stop that son! You'll tear your stitches. I won't have you injuring yourself. It's about noon now. You have been asleep for almost 15 hours. " answered his mother. "Thank you mother, but I need to find out who attacked me and why. I can't find that out in a hospital bed" stated William. "I will make you a deal son. If you will wait there I will get the doctor and if she saids you can move then I will not try and stop you" Lady Hamilton said as she head out the door. Moments later Lady Hamilton and Doctor Lakes enter the door. William was still over coming the pain form moving into a up-right position. "Hello Lord Hamilton, I am Doctor Katheryn Lakes. How are you feel? Lady Hamilton here has told me that you want get up and move around, and she doesn't think you should" "Good to meet you Doctor Lakes, please call me William. When people call me Lord Hamilton I always think they are talking about my father. I must thank you for your great work. I don't feel anywhere as bad as I should. I have work I need to do so if you can release me I would very grateful" ask William. "Please call me Kat, I have to have a look at your wound before I can think about releasing you. That is quite an injury you have. You lost a lot of blood before we were able to get the bleeding to stop. Let me take a look and see how the wound looks. " doctor Lakes told William. She walk over and start to remove the dressing covering his wound. "You know that armor of yours probably save your life. We had a hell of a time getting the bleeding to stopped, I don't think that paramedics would have been able to stop it " commented the doctor as she examined William's wound. "Well it looks like a swelling has gone down. I don't see any sign of an infection. So if you want to leave I am willing to let you, if you will promise that if any sign of a fever you will see a doctor immediately." "I will Kat. My shoulder doesn't hurt that much, and I have been in bed too much already " said William as he got to his feet. The pain almost blinded him, before he could get control of it. At least a groan didn't escape his lips. William just hope doctor did see the pain on his face. Doctor Lake gave William a knowing look "I will give a prescription to the nurse for you. Please take it easy William. If you move too much you might tear the stitches. " "Thank you Kat, Please tell all your staff that they have my gratitude. " William told doctor Lakes. "Mother is Private Mills around I think I am going to need help getting dressed. " " Yes son, he is just outside the door. I will send him in. Now that young man has manors. I bet he does disobey his mother " The last part was said just loud enough for William to hear. William gave a loud sigh as his mother left the room. By the time Mills got to William's room, William had all but his shirt on. "Private can you give me a hand getting my shirt one?" ask William. William grunted as he held his arm out for mills to his shirt over it. After finally getting William's shirt on "Are you ok sir? " ask Mills "I am fine. Why don't you get my mother and we will see about getting out of here" answered William. Mills was back in minutes with Lady Hamilton right on his heels. "I see you are ready. I arranged a car to take us to where we will be staying " said Lady Hamilton. A nurse walk in pushing a wheel chair. "Lord Hamilton please sit here and we will get you to your car" a nurse with the name tag "Maggie" told William. "Thank you nurse Maggie, But I will be walking out of here" Replied William. "My lord, I can't have that. If you were to fall down I would never hear the end of it. I might even lose my job" pleaded nurse Maggie. "Well I will just have to not fall down. I am sorry nurse Maggie but I walked in here and I will walk out of here. " stated William. "Ok my lord, I will trust you. Just remember that my future is in your hands" replied nurse Maggie. After a long slow talk, William did get to the car without falling down. In the car William ask "What hotel are we heading too?" "We aren't heading to an hotel. The empress offer us rooms in the palace. I have made the palace staff aware of the fact that Christopher will need a room near you son " said Lady Hamilton. "I should have guessed as much. After all, Elaine is getting married to Prince Washington. So where is sis I thought she would be at the hospital" ask William. "I don't want to talk about Elaine right now. But your baby sister is waiting at the palace for you. She was quite restless, about you coming to the wedding" Lady Hamilton commented. "So Christina is still the little bundle of energy she always was " laughed William. But he was worried about why his mother wouldn't tell him any thing about Elaine. The remainder of the drive was spent in silence. As the car pulled up to the palace, a palace servant opened the car door. "Greets Lord Hamilton and Lady Hamilton, Welcome to Grand Palace. I am Head Butler Don Fetcher. We have Lord Hamilton's room ready. If need any thing just ask one of the staff. Maid Mary here will show you to your rooms " said Butler Fetcher. "William, I have things I need to do" stated Lady Hamilton "please come by room after you have settled in. We have much to discussed " "Yes mother, Maid Mary please show us the way." replies William as Mary head off. Walking towards William's room Mary said "Welcome to the grand Palace My Lord. I have been assigned as your primary Staff member. If you need anything please let me know. Your needs are my primary responsibility. " "Maid Mary, have you had any combat training?" ask William "Why yes My Lord, very staff member is require to be Level III certified. I am level V. Why do you ask?" answered Mary. Mills gasped "WOW Maid Mary, level IV is front line training. One more level and you will be at my level, and I am in the elite unit Black Dragoons. " " It's the way you carry yourself. It screams combat training. Christopher quit drooling over our poor maid. Ether ask her out or leave her be" laugh William. Mills and Mary both turned beet red. Upset with himself now " I am sorry Maid Mary. That was uncalled for. It was a inside joke at Private Mills expense. My friend here always falls for strong women. Can you forgive me?" Still beet red Mary started to smile "Well My Lord I will only forgive if Private Mills agrees to go out with me. He is kind of cute." Mills turned even redder. William stumbled and also fell "that is totally up to Private Mills. But something tells me that he doesn't have a problem with your terms. " "SIR!" Mills almost shouted "Miss Mary here is a very pretty woman. But that doesn't give you the right to fix me up." Laughing so hard William ran into a table "No one said you had to go on a date with our very pretty maid here. I just said I didn't think you would mind, And I also said it was up to you to decide. " Stopping at a door Maid Mary "Well we are here. This is your room My Lord. Private Mills room is right next door. " Mary entered the room "This is the sitting on your right is the door the your bedroom and on the left is the door to Private Mills' room. Sadly to said but Private Mills' room is small. It was meant to be a man servants quarters, but the palace rooms will be filled up so with wedding guesses. These was the only room we could find for him. " "That should do just fine. Private Mills is my honor guard any way." commented William. He look around the room. Being a nobleman he had been in some very nice places. This apartment top every other place he had been in. Decorated in a very modern design. It was very tasteful. William then wondered into the bedroom. It was far from small with a huge bed in the middle of the room. Checking the closet William notice it was all ready fill with dresses and other female clothing. Looking more closely William saw one of the dresses was embroider with the name Elaine. "Maid Mary who does this clothing belong too?" "I am sorry My Lord, those belonged to the former occupant of these apartments. She left every suddenly. I will make sure that they are taken out of here at once. They should have been removed before now. I was told the room was ready for you" stated Mary matter of factly. "Well I need to go and meet my mother now. Could you take me to her" ask William. "Of course My Lord, follow me" replied Mary. "Mills it would be best if you stayed here. Get some rest, you look like you could use it" ordered William "Yes, sir" Said Mills. With that William and Mary were heading out the door to the room William's mother occupied. With a few minutes William was knocking on the door to his mother's room. "Come in" answer Lady Hamilton. As William entered the room he notice that his mother wasn't alone. The Empress Gloria Franklin Washington was sitting next to her. William bowed to the Empress "Good day to you Empress Washington, hello Mother. " "And a good day to you Lord Hamilton, Your mother and I have been discussing a problem we have. We think you could help us with " said The Empress. A puzzled William "What is it I can for you Empress" "You see your sister has runaway. She left a note that said something about not wanting to be in a love less marriage " The Empress told William. "That sounds like Elaine. I was wondering how mother talked her into the marriage. But I don't understand where I come it. Surely the secret service can find her " commented William. "It was hard, But that isn't the issue here. The secret service will be able to your sister, of that I am sure of. But can they find her before the wedding?
