were only in the right body. You want to yell, instead you hold it all
inside and take it all out on the streets as you go jogging every
morning.
You've tried to dress normally, like any other man, but the baggy
trousers just look stupid on your wrong-flesh. You resolve to do
something someday but you tried to tell someone once and they just
laughed in your face and you had to move town for fear of them telling
everyone your deepest secret. Why are people so cruel to those in real
pain and misery?
Eventually the day comes round and the rep arrives at your door. He
seems put off a bit at first, maybe he expected some butch dyke in
combats that doesn't fit you right? He seems a little too chatty and
over-familiar but you decide to just explain as best you can and be
honest. You tell him about your tomboy childhood, you tell him about
your pain and misery. Your desperate plight to just be yourself and

talk about your feelings of depression and aimlessness. You talk about

gender neutral clothes to travel to your appointment, everything else is
gone. You end your utilities contracts, you tell everyone you're moving
in with a friend and you tell your folks you're going travelling for a
while. They've tried to keep ties but they've never accepted you since

it's as if your old life was already ended.
You attend the clinic; it's very Spartan and minimalist. Everything is
white paint and chrome. The receptionist books you in under your new

You're taken to a side room, to dress in a paper gown. It's reassuringly
blue and you eagerly cast off the remnants of your old life.
You wait a few moments and a medical girl enters. She gives you a thick
syrupy liquid to drink, telling you to drink it all in one go. You drink
it down and she takes the glass away. You wonder what happens next but
you come over all sleepy and you fall asleep.
You awaken in a comfy bed. The thin blue cotton blanket clings to your
skin in new and unexpected ways. You pull the blanket down over your

white. You have new photos taken for the necessary documents and you try

yourself and you discover that people really like you, this make you even
happier and more comfortable with yourself.
Then there's a surprise, your parents are here to see you. They seem
shocked and then delighted with the new you. They were afraid that it
wouldn't be a success but they're so proud of you and also happy to have

You move into your new apartment, under your new name. You decorate it
