A lot of guys say they have the most wonderful wife in the world, but in
my case it's actually true....although I suppose I need to stop thinking
of myself as a "guy," at least for the moment.
My birthday was coming up. Beth has always gone out of her way to make
it special during the five years we've been married, but she really
outdid herself this time. She told me she had booked us into a cute bed
and breakfast in a little town in Pennsylvania. It was a drive of a
little over three hours from our home in Cleveland.
We hit the road right after lunch on the day before my birthday so we'd
be there in plenty of time to get unpacked and enjoy a leisurely dinner.
The B-and-B was in a really charming Victorian house near the center of
the town. The innkeeper, a sweet older lady named Mrs. Canfield, turned
out to be a fabulous cook.
Although it was the middle of winter, it was a relatively mild evening,
clear, with the temperature hovering close to 40. We decided to take a
walk around town. It looked like the town was one of those small
communities that had managed to preserve its identity and vitality.
There were few empty storefronts. Still, it didn't look like there was
going to be a lot to do here.
I finally asked Beth, "So, what do you have planned for us?"
She put her finger on my lips and said, "Shhh. It's a surprise! But be
ready to get an early start tomorrow. I want to pack the most into the
day that we can."
I groaned. "Awww...don't I get to sleep in on my birthday?"
She smiled. "Believe me, you're going to find it to be worth it."
We cuddled in the bed while watching a movie. Although it was just past
10 o'clock, I found myself feeling very sleepy. That was the last thing
I remembered until morning, when I felt Beth's hand on my shoulder,
gently shaking me. I could hear the alarm clock going off. I was groggy,
but I realized something had changed....and that something was me.
"Come on, darling. Time to get started on your most memorable birthday
ever. But please, don't say anything or open your eyes just yet."
I felt different....very different. The first thing I noticed was the
hair in my face. My hair wasn't long enough to be falling in my face.
Beth was brushing it away; then she was on top of me, her breasts

for a Day."
"But how did you know?"
"Darling, you talk in your sleep....a lot."
I felt myself blushing. I tried to speak, but nothing came out.
"It's O-K. I know you want to be a woman. I also know that you love me
very much. Just like I love you very much."
I felt myself tearing up. We reached out for each other and embraced.
"Thank you," I whispered. "Thank you."
At that point she told me we really needed to get going, especially
since it would take a while for two women to get ready. I was still
speechless, and felt giddy. I climbed out of bed and walked to the full-
length mirror where Beth stood. "Take a look...Kelly. I guess it's a
good thing your parents gave you a unisex name."
We were the same height, about five-seven, and looked to have similar
builds; slim hips, small waists, breasts a little on the small side.
Maybe a bit boyish, but very cute. "I'm sure we're going to be able to
wear the same clothes, which will simplify things," Beth said. I was
transfixed, staring at my new body. I still couldn't believe it was

"Dear," Beth said with mock anger, "We'll have time to play with your

the final touch; I already had the necklace, of course; she added a pair
of hoop earrings (my new ears were already pierced), a bracelet, and a
couple of her rings. All this time she had been getting ready herself.
She led me back to the mirror; I gasped when I saw the new me.
Beth grabbed me by the arm and gave a gentle tug. She was smiling. "Come
on, Cinderella. Time to have breakfast."
"But won't Mrs. Canfield realize I've....changed?"
"That's part of the magic of the necklace. As long as its magic is
working, everyone around you will have always known you as a female."
Sure enough, she was right. After a delicious breakfast, we went back to
the room to get our coats (she had a lovely white Burberry coat with
large black buttons for me) and purses (I had acquired a purse as part
of the change) and then we hit the road.
About forty minutes later, we were pulling up in front of a Macy's that
was an anchor store at a large mall.
"Retail therapy time, my love," Beth said, and we were through the front
doors as soon as the store was open. I don't know how many outfits I
tried on, not to mention accessories of all types?scarves, bags, shoes
and more. We walked out the door with a four-figure bill and each
carrying two overstuffed shopping bags. It had been such fun; I was a
little sad that today would be my only opportunity to wear these
gorgeous clothes; but I would delight in seeing them on my beautiful
wife.
"Are you hungry, love?" she asked.
"I guess I did work up an appetite," I said. "What do you have in mind?"
Before I knew it we were in a nice restaurant, both nibbling on our
salads and sipping our tea, like two young women watching their
waistlines should. As we finished, I said, "What's next, dear? I don't
see how this day could possibly get any better."
But it could. Our next stop was a salon and spa, and it was clear the
staff had been awaiting us. We received the full treatment?manicures,
pedicures, seaweed wrap, avocado facial mask, a cut and style?I felt so
pampered, so feminine, so happy. When we finished, it was mid-afternoon.
Beth asked me if I was up for a movie, I said of course, and before I
knew it we settling in with a tub of popcorn for a showing of "Steel
Magnolias" at a revival house. Talk about the ultimate chick flick! We
both cried and cried...it was a wonderful, cleansing release. One of the
many things I've envied about women is their ability to be open with
their emotions. I loathe male stoicism. I suppose things have gotten
better the past couple of generations, but men are still emotionally
constricted by society's expectations, and their own.
When the movie ended, we made a quick dash for the ladies room to repair
our makeup; then it was time to get a light supper, and then head back.
We reached our B and B a little after nine. Up the stairs we went, into
our bedroom, and our clothes were on the floor within moments. We took

"Silly girl," she said. "What day is your birthday?"
"February Second....Groundhog Day."
"And where are we?"
"In Punxsutawney....Oh my God!"
"Yes...we can keep living variations of the day for as long as we want.
The only restriction is that we have to be back here, and in bed before
midnight."
Well, it's been about 100 days and still going strong now.
I suppose we can't keep living like this forever....we'll eventually
miss our home, or a warm summer day, or Christmas. I suppose someday
I'll have to go back to being male again.
Just so it isn't tomorrow!
