CHAPTER 7
There I was shaking Jackson's hand. Trying to remember why I was shaking
his hand to begin with. As I looked down at our hands, mine just seem to
be lost in his. Even my hands looked womanly in his. His were like
catcher mitts compared to mine. I looked up at his face. He was wearing
the biggest smile as if he just won the lotto or something else amazing.
I think I might have been smiling too.
"Charlie, it is you!" he said as he finally let go of my hand.
"Um..." was all I could spit out.
"Are you Neil's sister? My paperwork says his mother's name is Vanessa,"
he said looking a tiny bit confused.
"Oh, yes sorry, my name is Vanessa," I said somewhat slow, trying to
think and speak at the same time. "You kind of caught me a tiny bit off
guard when you met me at Davidson's. I had a lot on my mind, one of which
was that I had to go pick up my other son, Charlie. I just said his name
by mistake and just didn't correct myself. Like I said I'm really busy
and didn't think I would see you again anyway." Those last word I said
seem to make Jackson a bit sad, but I didn't mean them to be mean.
"Oh, ok," he said still a little bit confused. "Well should we get to why
you're here then? Have a seat," he said as he pointed to the student's
desks across from his desk. Neil was already sitting, so I sat down next
to him, as lady like as I could. Trying to make sure nothing could be
seen, I crossed my legs and sat my purse on the desk's top.
"Is Neil going to fail the class?" I asked, diving right in since that is
why we were there anyway.
"Well, um, Mrs. Scott, after this last test he took, he is pretty much
only a couple points above failing. He seems to me slacking and not doing
the work. I will give him credit that his last test was better than the
two before. But failing is still failing," Jackson said.
"Well can he do any extra credit? Can he take a re test? Is there
anything he can do to not fail?" I said staring at Jackson's eyes. I
can't lie, his green eyes were amazing looking. I was trying to not stare
at them.
"I don't Mrs. Scott..."
"Call me Vanessa," I interrupted. Why? I have no idea.
"Well Vanessa, he can do some extra credit. I mean extra credit will
always help your grade, but if he fails the next two tests, I don't know
how much the extra credit will help. He really needs to ace both of them
to pass," Jackson said...not really looking at my face at all. I could
totally tell he is staring at my legs.
"Please, I will get him a tutor and make sure he does his homework. I
don't want my boy to fail. I'll do anything to help him pass," I said
trying to act as if I cared. Yet, deep down I couldn't give a shit. I
just wanted to get this over with, get my autographed baseball and cash
and be done with knowing what it's like to be a woman.
"Well.... There is one thing that might keep him from failing. Might make
sure that no matter what he does, he still passes my class," Jackson
said, as he started to give a weird little smile.
"Oh, what's that? I'll help any way I could!" I said batting my
eyelashes, thinking it might help.
"Well, Wednesday night the Phillies are in town. You can be my date to
the game," Jackson said with even a bigger smile on his face.
"Huh? Wait... what?" I was trying to spit out the words I have seem to
misplace, as Neil finally opened his mouth with an energetic "She would
love to!!"
"Wait, hold the presses, time out! What are you trying to pull here
Jackson? What are you saying?" I asked confused. I know, I know, insert
dumb blonde joke here.
"Look, I think your kid is very smart when he puts his mind to it. I
think if he studies really hard and does the extra credit. There is a
chance that he could pass my class. But, with the effort Neil has been
putting in, passing my class... well there is a better chance of the sun
not rising tomorrow," Jackson said with a little giggle behind his words.
"He would need A's on both tests. What I'm saying is if you go to the
game with me, no matter what he does on the test, I'll be sure that he
passes this class."
"Jackson, this is blackmail. You can't think that I would just say ok to
this," I said, getting a little upset.
"Well, you said you would do anything. And I figured this may be the only
chance I would get to get you to agree to go out on a date with me," he
said as he sat back a little in his seat.
"I can't go out with you Jackson. It wouldn't be right," I said. Knowing
it wouldn't be right because I'm not really Vanessa.
I got up from my seat, picked up my purse and told Neil to get up. I
grabbed Neil by the hand and stormed out of the class room.
"How dare he! Thinking he can take advantage of a girl like that. Using
her son as a way to get a date out of her. What kind of a woman does he
think I am!!" I said with an anger in my voice.
"Um, you're not a woman," Neil said. "Calm the hell down."
"Whatever, Neil. Did you see how he was staring at my legs?" I said
trying to wrap my mind about what just happen. "All he saw was a girl
who's pants he wanted to get into," I said not know how true those words
were.
We started walking down the hall alone towards the front of the school
when Neil stopped his feet.
"Come on man!! Please!!" Neil said as he went down to his knees, begging
me.
"Dude, get the hell up before someone sees! I'm not that kind of a girl.
I have respect for myself."
"Please Charlie! I beg you. You're not a girl. Just pretending t. And you
only have to pretend one more day! Plus you get to see a Phillies game
for free out of it. Sounds like a good deal to me!" Neil said still on
his knees.

in heels and a dress with a very handsome man asking you out on a date!"
I said pissed.
"A very handsome?? ...never mind. Come on. You will be saving me!!"
"Neil, why do you want to go to this pool party so bad? That is what all
this trouble is about isn't it? This wouldn't be the first time you
failed a class. So I know you could careless about that," I wanted
answers.
"Ok. Missy Gardner," Neil said as he got up from is knees. "I have a huge
crush on Missy and I asked her to go with me to the pool party. If I fail
mom not only will she be mad and not let me go to the party, but she will
most likely ground me too and then I really won't get a chance to go out
with Missy... anywhere," Neil Said.
"Jeez Neil. Missy will understand. You're asking way too much of me now,"
I said.
"How so? It's only one more day," Neil said not getting how bad of an
idea this date is.
"Neil, I went to a food store. Few people. I went to a mall. Few more
people. You not only want me to now go to a giant baseball stadium, with
loads of people, but you want me to go out on a date, with a man!! Do you
hear how insane it is for me!?" I said trying to calm down.
"I'll do anything Charlie. Anything. Plus who knows, you might really
enjoy yourself," Neil started to beg again.
"Dude, I can't think of one thing that you could do or say that could
make me want to do this. The answer is NO!! Now let's go home," I said as
I turned and started to walk down the hallway again.
"You leave me no choice then," Neil said as he pulled something from his
pants pocket.
"What's that supposed to me you little shit?" I asked as I turned back
around towards him.
Flash! Flash! Flash! I was blind. "What the hell?" I cried out. Dropping
my purse from my hand and raising my arms and hands to covered my face.
"What's your problem? What the hell are your doing?"
I looked at Neil who was not only smiling but was now holding my purse in
one hand and a small camera in the other..
"What kind of shit are you trying to pull?" I said pissed.
"I just took about 6 pictures of my older brother dressed up like a
chick. If you don't go thru with the date I'm going to show the whole
school!" Neil said trying to get an attitude with me.
"Whatever, asshole! No one will believe you. I fooled Mrs. Richards, I
fooled Daryl, I fooled Mr. Avery. What makes you think anyone will
believe that you just don't have bad pictures of mom?" I said, laughing
knowing he had nothing on me.
"Your right there, maybe. But you know who you can't fool....mom! She will
know," Neil said.
"No she won't. She will just think it was some random time those pictures
were taken. I bet she won't even notice what you had to show her or care
to listen to you once I tell her your failing math."
"Well I wasn't really talking about showing her the pictures. I was going
to just show her you, in person," he said as he pulled my car keys from
my purse. "How you going to explain the way you're dressed when I leave
your dumbass here dressed like that."
I WAS FUCKED! He had me. He has the purse in his hands. The purse that
had the car keys and my wallet. I had nothing to get me home. I was
trapped. I thought about chasing after him. Maybe I could get him to the
ground and grab the keys. But I knew that was a crapshoot. Little kid
will run and never stop. I might have taking to walking in heels with
zero trouble, but I doubt the same would be the same for running in them
after him. I don't stand a chance.
"Come on Neil. You don't know what you're asking of me. You don't know
how fucked up of a thing this is to do!! Please don't!! I can't go one a
date with a man. It's just wrong," I was now the one begging.
"I'm sorry dude, but if you don't go back into Mr. Avery's class room and
tell him you would love to be his date on Wednesday, I'm running out the
back door and you are going to be screw!" Neil said with his feet turned
towards the other end of the hallway where there is a door leading out
the back of the school.
"Please Neil!!" I tried begging once more.
"Get your ass in that class room," Neil said pointing to the classroom.
"I FUCKING HATE YOU, YOU SON OF A BITCH!" I said with hurt and pain in my
voice.
"Don't call yourself a bitch, mommy," Neil punched a remark at me.
I walked back to the class room and knocked on the door.
"Come in," Jackson yelled as I opened the door. "Vanessa..." He said
surprisingly.
"Pick me up at 6. No sooner," I said.
"You got it. Can't wait, Vanessa," he said smiling even more than before.
"Me too Jackson, me too," I said as I left the room closing the door
behind me. Was I excited to have a date with a man or was I losing my
fucking mind.
I walked up to Neil and told him I had a date with his teacher for
Wednesday night.
"Well done mom," he said handing me back the purse and the car keys.
"Homewards mommy dearest."
I swear I'm going to kill this kid!!
We drove home in silence. Well not total silence. I myself was crying.
Tears running down my face, snot building up in my nose. No longer was I
feeling beautiful, but instead feeling used. But I will say I was
definitely coming across very girl like with all the waterworks going on.
Not very manly at all.
We got home, Neil went right over to the couch and flipped on the
television and then his Xbox. Started to play his video game like it was
no big deal. Like he didn't just hurt me. I on the other hand had to
hurry up and get my ass up stairs and out of my mom's clothes. I had a
little less than an hour left to be back to looking like good old Charlie
boy before mom got home.
I kicked off the heels and I won't lie, my toes were barking. I
understand how women can have a love/hate for heels. I was careful to
remove the jacket, top, and pencil skirt and hang them back up. Once
again seeing my dad's suits on the hangers as I turned to leave. To
think, if I was only wearing one of those today, I wouldn't be in so much
trouble as I was in now. I left the closet and walked back into the
bedroom catching a glimpse of myself in the full length mirror. There was
a very sad looking young woman standing there in a red bra and panties
with black pantyhose still on. The black mascara running down her face.
She looked so sad. I felt bad for her. I felt bad for myself. I removed
the rest of my mom's clothes and made my way into my own bedroom. I
jumped in the shower to clean the day off of me.
I got out of the shower just as my mom was walking in the front door. I
hurried and dried off and jumped back into bed. I turned off all the
light and tried to pretend I had still been in bed sleeping this whole
time. I heard my bedroom door creek open. My mom, the real Vanessa,
peeked in to see if I was awake. I hope she thinks I'm still sleeping and
lets me be. If not I'm positive she will see I been crying. She looks and
then closes the door.
It had been a very strange couple of days. I was harassed, blackmailed,
asked out on dates by men, had my legs stared at, had a female fashion
show, and all I want now the most is to sleep!! After all that I been
thru the last couple days... I just want to sleep and be good old Charlie
again.
I hope I don't have any dreams tonight. I just want to get some rest.
Some peace and quit. Hope the best for tomorrow. See what Tuesday brings
me.
