CHAPTER 10
The stadium started to file out. I thought about my options which really
were nothing good. I knew I really only had one that could get me out of
this mess, but as the same time it would just give me a whole other mess
to deal with. But I would rather deal with it then have my mother find
out about her son. So I broke down, reached into my purse and pulled out
my cell phone.
Ring, ring. Ring, ring. "Pick up, pick up!" I said to myself.

"Hey Mike, it's me Charlie," I said.

"Oh, I saw it, more importantly, are you still at the game?" I asked in a
panic. If he is gone I am screwed for sure.
"Kind of, I'm with the guys walking to our cars in the parking lot. Why?
What's up?" he asked.
"I need a ride home!" I said.
"Well, where are you? Like I said I'm still at the stadium."
"Oh, well, I'm at the stadium too," I said.
"Really? Why didn't you sit with us? Why do you need a ride? What's up?"
Michael said seeming like he had way more questions to ask, which I'm
sure he will have even more soon to come.
"It's a long story and you might not want to ever talk to me ever again
after you hear it. But I really need your help!!" I said, noticing I was
coming to the verge of tears.
"Dude, whatever you need. I'll wait by my car for you. I'm in lot C,
about 30 cars back. I'll wait for you, but hurry up, I want to get
going."
"Thanks, I'll be right there," I said.
I started to walk towards the exit, but for some reason a thought came to
mind, that I need to check out how I looked first. So vain, I thought.
Not that I wanted to look good but I didn't want to look like a mess too.
So vain. I made my way into a ladies room real quick. I checked my makeup
and reapplied my lipstick. I made sure I looked ok before I left. I
figured if I was going to let one of my best friends see me like this, I
didn't want to look like total crap.
I made my way out of the stadium and started to walk towards the area
Michael said he was parked in. I only saw about 15 cards in that area. I
could see Michael sitting on the hood of his car with his feet on the
front bumper. He was wearing jeans, his old school Phillies powder blue
jersey and a matching baseball cap. Just what I should have been wearing.
As I was walking closer to him I could see his eyes light up. As I got
closer and closer I started to shake. As I got to him he jumped off the
hood and stood up.
"Hi," I said in a soft voice.
"Hello, my name is Michael, what's your name?" he asked as he reached out
to shake my hand.
I put my hand out to shake his and it was the softest hand shake ever.
"Well tonight my name is Vanessa, but the rest of my days it's Charlie,"
I said looking down at my feet. Too scared to look him in the eyes.
Afraid of what will happen next.
Staring at the red of my toes peeking out of my shoes I finally looked up
at him. He just looked stun, liked someone just punched him in the guts.
"Michael, it's me, Charlie," I said.
"What the fuck!!! Dude, what the fuck??" he said as he let go of my hand.
"What the hell is going on, um, man? This is a bad joke right? Where is
Charlie? Did he put you up to this? Is he hiding with a camera
somewhere?" Michael said looking around the parking lot. "Come out
Charlie, you got me!" he said with a nervous laugh.
"Sorry, I know it's very weird and strange, but it's really me, Charlie,"
I said, feeling like I could start to cry.
"Come on, stop messing with me, it's not funny anymore. No way you're
Charlie. You're too beautiful to be Charlie," Michael said starting to
turn red with anger.
"It's me Mike, I'm not trying to mess with you. I can explain
everything," I said.
"Get in the fucking car," He said as he walked over to the driver side to
get in. I followed getting in the passenger side and closing the door.
"Ok, I'll drive you home, now explain," He said not looking at me and he
popped his key into the car and started it up.
We started to drive and I started to explain. "Neil is failing his class...

like going to mall, putting on a fashion show, getting hit on at a
restaurant, and enjoying most of it, a little bit. Michael didn't say
anything. He just kept driving. I notice him look over at me but I
noticed his eyes were looking more toward my legs. Which, if I was a guy,
I could see it being hard not to check out the legs of a girl in a short
skirt sitting next to you. Wait, what do I mean 'if I was a guy'? I am a
guy!! Ugh!
We got to my street, but about 10 houses down from mine, Michael pulled
the car over. Oh, this can't me good.
"Dude, I don't know what to say to you," Michael said as he turned his
head to look at me.
"Mike, I'm so, so sorry! I never wanted you to find out I was doing this.
I didn't want anyone to find out. I was just trying to help my brother
and be done with this. It just went a little farther then I wanted it to.
And tonight, I just didn't have any other options for getting home. I was
too scared something would happen to me if I tried to get home, alone,
looking like this," I said this time, not on the verge, but flat out
starting to cry. I couldn't help it. I felt so weak.
"Come on, don't cry," Michael said.
"Michael, please, please, forgive me," I turned my body towards him with
my hands together begging him. Black lines now making tracks on my face.
I was doing more than crying I was now sobbing.
"Charlie... I" Michael just seem to be at a complete lost for words.
As I felt my tears land on my bare skin lap I noticed because the way I
turned my shirt had risen so high my panties were almost showing. That
wasn't going to help the situation any. As I began to turn away, Michael
reached his hand out.
"Stop crying," he said as he put his hand on my face to wipe the tears
way. "I understand why you did what you did. I just can't believe you did
it."
"I know, I know. I just got carried away," I was in such a state of
emotions, that I wasn't sure what was going on.
Michael still had his hand on the side of my face. As my eyes looked up
at him I noticed he was staring at my face.
"What?" I said just looking at him.
"Nothing. It's just amazing how pretty you look. I don't see Charlie
anywhere here. I only see a very sad, very beautiful girl crying,"
Michael said as he slowly removed his hand from the side of my face as if
he just noticed I was weird to have it there to begin with.
"I'm still Charlie. I think it's still me," I said confused about
everything. "My mind has just been messed up the last few days"
"What do you mean, you think?" Michael said confused himself.
"I just have so many thoughts and emotions running through my head. That
I just don't know what to think about them," I said.
"I really don't know what to say to you. I'm confused just looking at
you," Michael said "I mean, seriously dude, you look amazing. You look
better than most of the girls in our classes."
I was about to say something but Michael just kept on going. "I mean your
skirt is so short and your legs look amazing and wearing heels too! It's
just weird because I don't see my good friend anywhere!"
"I know, I know," I said trying to get Michael to stop talking. "Well
it's over. I meet with my brother's teacher and that was the deal. He
left me at the damn stadium so there is nothing else to say or do besides
end this all now. I can hang up my heels!" I said wiping my own tears
away.
Michael looked like he was going to say something else but he didn't say
a word. He checked to see if any cars were coming and pulled out and
drove me to my house.
He pulled into the driveway. I turned to him and said, "Thanks for
driving me home. I'm sorry if I hurt our friendship in anyway. I will
understand if you don't want to ever talk to a freak like me again," I
reached for the door and Michael grabbed my shoulder and pulled me
towards him. Oh no I thought, he's not going to... is he going to?!!
Michael gave me a hug and said, "We are still friends. I won't tell
anyone, beautiful."
"What did he say?" I said in my own mind as he let go and I opened the
door and got out.
I ran, in heels, to the front door, put my key into the door and hurried
inside. Once I closed the door I leaned up against it. What a crazy
night.
I took the heels off right there and ran up the stairs. I think this time
I'm going to have to wash my mom's clothes before putting them back in
her closet. The shirt was wet with tears and smelled of the stadium. So I
took off the skirt and top and threw them on the floor. I ran back to my
mom's closet and put back her heels and I put back her jewelry. I took
the skirt and shirt back to my room and hide them at the bottom of my
laundry basket. I turned to go back to my mom's room when I caught my
reflection in the mirror. Michael was right, I had to admit to myself. I
did see a very pretty girl standing there. One very sad, pretty girl
standing there in matching red panties and bra, with black lines running
down her face. I thought I should clean the bra and panties too so I took
them off and hide them with the other clothes. I went to the restroom to
clean my face. I decided I just wanted to relax a little and try to calm

How could I go out with a man? But How could I not. I can't lie to
myself. As I look down at my feet I can still see my red painted
toenails. And I can't lie. It feels weird and wrong to be putting on my
mom's clothes, but at the same time I am enjoying it. I'm getting excited
about how the clothes look and feel. And how they make me feel to wear
them. I can't lie, but I enjoyed getting to be someone else for a little
while. Even if that someone else is a girl. And I don't know if I can
just stop. Part of me loves it and part of me hates it. I just don't know
what side is winning. As I look down at my toes, I wonder, what would a
darker red or black look like?
