I had learnt to say "mi casa es su casa." As I had decided I had better
make a bit of effort and learn to speak her language.
Victoria was pleased I was making an effort and asked, "?Sabes c?mo decir

I didn't understand the question and so Victoria explained that she had
asked me whether I knew how to say anything else in Spanish.
I admitted I didn't, but encouraged by her reaction I got myself enrolled
in an intensive Spanish course at the Spanish Embassy.
After a week or two Victoria started to suggest that I should get my ears
pierced and encouraged me to start shaving regularly as she said she
preferred it when my beard did not give her a rash.

Eventually, after a few days, I gave in and had studs in both ears. "If

I was now starting to learn basic Spanish and could ask the girls if they
wanted "t?" or "caf?" or "cualquier cosa para comer"? I was gaining
confidence in my Spanish and starting to think we should adopt it as our
language as a couple so we could avoid everyone understanding what we were
saying when we went shopping. I know I discussed this idea with Victoria
but come to think of it was it her idea or mine?
Victoria introduced me to a product she called "l?piz labial". It looked
like lipstick to me but she told me lots of men wore it in Spain but they
never wore "lipstick". Yes she had worn lipstick and it was not the same
thing!
Victoria gave me a "l?piz labial' with "Madame Chantal Nuevo Estuche"
written on the side. It had a silver cover and was a bright candy red.
She explained that I should put it in my lips like I had seen her apply
lipstick. I loved the sticky feel it gave my lips and the taste of it as
I licked my lips. I could not help thinking it really was lipstick!
So around a month into our relationship I was now wearing l?piz labial,
m?scara and large aros de oro which were now as big as my ears as I
curtseyed to the Spanish ladies who came to my house.
On a quiet evening a few days later I heard Victoria say to her mother on
