Chapter Three
As Darlene reached over into her nightstand drawer, Ashley had second
thoughts. He reached his hand over and placed it on hers. "Uh, Darlene.
We're going to need to take a break. I want to clean up before my next
class."
Darlene closed the drawer and gave her new girlfriend a kiss on the lips.
She placed her hands on her shoulders and pushed her back down on the bed.

Howard sat up. He stood then leaned over and kissed her. He held the

Howard grinned. "You are amazing. You're beautiful and you're kind. You're
really becoming all sorts of firsts for me. I've never been able to talk
so honestly with someone and tell them about my whole life and make love
too. It's really been a special day because of you. You make me feel so
uninhibited and free."
Darlene smiled and kissed him back. "It's mutual. You're my dream and my
idol all rolled up in one. And you turn out to be the most interesting
person I've ever met. You're not stuck up or aloof. You're just so sweet
and well, I really have been having fun with you. It's just that, well. I
don't know how to say it."
Howard wondered what was going to come next. Was this the bush off? "Go
ahead and tell me what you're thinking."

Howard breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled. "No fault of yours. I'm just

"Well, the shower is down the hall and it's the shower for the whole

Howard thought for a minute. "If you don't mind coming over to my place, I

Darlene threw herself into his arms. "I'd love to. I really would."
Howard used his phone to call the car service. They got their stuff
together and went down to the campus center. As they were arriving, a
shiny black Mercedes pulled up. They climbed in back and in a few minutes
were being dropped off outside a condo building.
Howard handed the man a bill and they went up to the front door.
Darlene looked up. "Oh, this is nice."
Howard smiled and said thanks. He used his key and they walked across a
short lobby to the elevator. As they stood inside the shiny box, Howard
inserted his key and turned it. The elevator started to move.
Darlene looked at him. "You didn't press any buttons."
Howard smiled. "It recognizes my key and takes us to my floor."
The elevator opened directly into Howard's apartment and his entrance
hall. As they walked in, Darlene walked ten feet and stopped. "Wait a
minute. This whole floor is yours? Are we in the penthouse?"
Howard stood there and watched her take in the view of his outside terrace
gardens and the skyline. His great room had a panorama and was pretty
spacious for New York. He was really proud of what he had here. This was
his biggest purchase and his most valuable investment.
"Oh, wow Ashley. This is way too cool. I mean, this is like a ten million
dollar apartment. Did you buy this with your modeling money?"
Howard smiled. "It's an investment and I bought it five years ago when the
market was decidedly lower. It pays for itself now."
"Wait. You own the whole building?"
Howard nodded. "Life's been good."
"Modeling paid for this whole building?"
He smiled. "When you're hot, you're hot. Ashley made a lot of money in her
day. She worked hard and didn't spend a lot. She saved and invested. Plus,
having a lawyer for a mom makes things go smoother."
"Oh wow, Ashley. I've never met anyone who's rich. This is awesome. But
how does the place pay for itself?"
Howard laughed. "Actually, the building makes money now. It didn't at
first, but now with all the apartments leased, it puts money in the bank."
"How many apartments?"
"There are nine floors with a mix of two, three, or four apartments on
each floor. Altogether there are twenty-five apartments.They're all pretty
nice."
"So what floor are we on?"
"We're on the twelfth floor. The ground floor has a pool and a gym. The
second floor has a reception hall and kitchen."
Darlene was walking around the great room. She was touching the backs of
the chairs and the couches. She turned and looked at her girlfriend. "And
you have gardens and everything up here. This is pretty awesome."
Howard rarely got to show off. This was his hideaway from all the
pressures of working round the clock for all those years. "I'm glad you
like it. Let me show you around. But first, let's get the bathroom heated
up and ready for us."
Darlene walked into the great room and looked at the kitchen. Then they
turned a corner and walked through Howard's office. From there, they
wandered back to the bedroom and into his bathroom.
Darlene was in total shock. She'd never been in a house so large or so
nicely decorated. "Did you design and decorate this? It's so amazing."
Howard smiled. "I can't take any credit at all. An old friend of mine is a
designer and decorator. You've heard me speak of Brianne. She did it all."
Howard ginned. "She left modeling when she fell in love. She got married.
She and her husband have three beautiful kids"
"She does wonderful work."
"I had to beg her to fit me in. Between her business and family, she's in
great demand."
They were standing in the bathroom. He made himself busy flipping switches
and in a minute the floor and ceiling started to warm the room. He flipped
on the heated towel bar.
Darlene watched in amazement. "This is more than awesome. I've never seen
something this amazing. How'd you figure it all out?"
Howard grinned. "Easy. I just took the coolest ideas I'd ever seen and
wanted. I made a list and wrote them all down. Then the building architect
put it all together for me."
Darlene was stripping off her clothes. "I can't wait to give it a try. I
want to scrub you all over."
Howard kissed her. "I love your enthusiasm. When's your next class?"
"Five."
"So's mine. Is it Ancient History?"
When Darlene grinned, Howard frowned. "Is there a book for that one too?"
Darlene laughed as she was taking Ashley's clothes off. She was
unbuttoning Ashley's boy clothes and marveling at what a cute body she had
hidden behind that shirt and pants. "Of course there is, silly. When we're
done our showers I'll show you the curriculum and the lecture titles. With
most of these classes, you'll be able to catch up really quickly. It's all
online."
Howard was opening a door and encouraging her into a room.
Darlene looked inside and squealed. "You have a steam room?"
Howard adjusted the temperature and threw some water on the electric
steamer. "It's a great way for opening all the pores before you wash. A
nice natural way to the get dirt out without using a lot of harsh soaps."

Howard was enjoying his new friend. And when they sat there naked and

Darlene couldn't stop touching all the clothes. They were totally
organized and there were drawers full of lingerie and a wall of shoes. She
was giggling as she kept pulling out one expensive outfit after another.
Howard watched her and was vicariously enjoying her pleasure. He laughed.
"Choose whatever fits and it's yours. Seriously, take whatever you like."
Darlene started looking at everything. "How about if we just share. I
don't want to keep anything. Can I seriously try some stuff on?"
Ashley nodded. "I would never be able to wear half this stuff in my
lifetime. A lot of these clothes are sent to me from designers hoping that
I'll be seen in their gowns or whatever. It's a shame because I never go
out or do anything. Go for it."
Darlene started trying things on. Ashley was helping her match things up
and encouraging her to try different colors. "Oh wow! You know so much!"
Howard nodded. "It's all I know. I've spent my whole life around women's
clothes. Now come on and get dressed. Then you can show me the stuff
online for this course. I want to bookmark all of this before we leave for
class."
As Howard was putting on his boy clothes, he watched Darlene go online and
look up their course curriculum. He felt so stupid. All the links and
menus were so obvious after she showed him where to look.
Darlene turned and looked at him. She smiled and studied him. "You know,
you still look like a girl. It's just all about the way you stand and hold
your arms and well, you are just too cute. You're so pretty, I don't know
how you're ever going to pass."
Howard looked in the mirror. He had combed his hair back and away from his
ears. He wasn't wearing earrings but his ears weren't big like guys ears.
His ears were small and delicate. And his jaw was light and feminine. His
chin came to a point. He lacked that heavy jaw and brow that guys have. He
didn't have any facial hair and his bold cheekbones and small nose didn't
scream man at all. He sighed.
Howard felt the tears in his eyes. "Well, I'm not giving up. I'm sure
there are books about this or at least something on the computer. If I can
look like a woman so easily, I'm sure there's a way to look like a man,
too."
