Emma was surprised, the initial fear of being exposed subsided quite
quickly, she had worn cycling tights before this wasn't significantly
different. Then she became aware of the bra she was wearing and gazed at
her hands with the striking polish, yes that was different.
Paula had never worn such clothes outside, as the breeze caressed her
legs and more importantly around and under her top she felt very
exposed.
However apart from these feelings and having to greet some passing
families on the lane outside the house, nothing happened, nobody pointed
or said anything. They both began to relax.
The feeling of security quickly evaporated when they returned to the
house. Unexpected to Emma and Paula, Betty unlocked her X5 and motioned
them to get in the back seats. Not knowing what to expect they got in
and belted up.
The girls sat in silence as Betty chatted to Jane as she drove
confidently. Finally, she turned into a retail park, Emma looked at
Paula anxiously. The car pulled up outside a retail unit.
"We need to get some shoes for you, everything else we have sourced for
you. This is 'Shoe Barn' where you pick and fit your own shoes, there's
no assistance, we checked and it's normally quiet at this time. They
have the sort of shoes we think we need, you'll be in them all day so
it's important to us to get it right so you don't damage your feet,"
Betty said calmly.
"Come with us, we are playing the doting mothers here and we will keep
you safe," Jane turned to smile at the nervous girls.
With that Betty and Jane got out and then opened the rear doors giving
Paula and Emma little choice.
As they entered the store there were few staff around. Betty and Jane
had obviously recce'd the layout in advance. Shoes were on shelves by
size and then there were bench seats to allow for trying them out. They
had guessed at around a size 7 or 8 with the ballet flats they were
wearing and while Paula was easily OK, Emma was stretching them.
Betty went with Emma to the 8 through to 9 aisle Jane and Paula were in
the adjoining one.
"Try these dear," Emma was surprised when Betty offered a pair of
sparkly trainers.
"I thought we'd come for shoes," she replied.
"Yes but I've just spotted these they're all the rage and first you need
some shoes for now, those pumps are unsuitable. Here are some trainer
socks," Emma took the cut down socks and tried on the trainers.
"Just a fraction too small," she said. Betty was ready with a half size
larger, probably euro size one more. "That's a fit very comfortable."
"Good, now for something a bit dressier."
Emma smiled realising that she had been more anxious to get female
footware rather than a unisex trainer. Betty offered a cream or nude
coloured wedge with a small heel but first she gave Emma some 'footies'
these made getting the shoes on much easier and she had Emma walk around
to check the fit. As she got to the end of the aisle she came across
Paula confidently walking in a pair of black court shoes with a 3" heel.
Emma was amazed and entranced as Paula effortlessly coped with the
height of the shoe. 'You bugger, you've done this before' was her first
thought.
"All OK Emma?" called Betty.
"Yes they're very comfortable."
Paula hadn't noticed Emma, she walked past before she appeared. It had
been so long since she'd worn heels she was concentrating on the balance
and hip swing she had once mastered.
"You're doing very well," said Jane. "I thought we'd have started with
something lower but well done. I think we'll get some like Emma's as
well as they'll be better to start with."
Jane picked a black court with a low heel, she knew what would go with
the business clothes they had prepared for the girls. She was pleased
with the higher shoes as they would be suitable for tonight although she
too was suspicious of Paula's ease in them.
Back to Emma and Betty had managed to get her into similar heels but
blue this time.
"They fit beautifully," she said. "But I don't know if I can actually
walk in them."
"Look at Paula she's picked it up. It's a matter a practice, we have
time."
"Do we need all these shoes? It must be costing a fortune all of this,"
Emma looked worried.
"Let me and Jane worry about that but to be honest these shoes are very
cheap and won't last long. Let's pay and get going, I need a coffee. Pop
the flats on for now we'll change to the trainers in the car. Don't
forget your bag."
As they walked around to where Paula and Jane were, Emma saw Paula
trying an even taller heel before putting them back and bringing her 3
pairs of shoes, she had also picked out a trainer but in black with pink
highlights.
As they went through the checkout the assistant commented, "Lucky girls
getting so many shoes."
"Our aunties are very kind," said Paula in a soft voice she had been
secretly practicing.
That received a happy smile from Betty and Jane who handed over the
plastic to pay. They smiled and thanked the assistant and took their
bags back to the car. There they quickly changed to the new trainers
each admiring the others choice.
Betty then set off across the retail park and soon parked again outside
the on-site Costa Coffee, she and Jane just got out leaving the girls
little time to think so they followed dutifully.
"My treat," said Jane, "what are you two having? I know Betty's poison."
"Flat white please," said Paula. "Cappuccino for me," said Emma. "I'll
help you with the tray."
"Thank-you dear very thoughtful," said Jane. "You two get us a table."
Emma smiled when Jane ordered small cups and not the enormous mugs they
would have normally chosen. 'Dainty and lady like,' she thought.
The young boy barista smiled at Emma, "Here you are miss, enjoy your
drink," He was doing what her male self would have done, eyeing her up.
He appeared to like what he saw. Emma blushed slightly and thanked him
which made his smile even larger. "Can I help you with the tray?"
"No need thanks," she replied with a grateful smile.
Paula watched carefully. "You're in there," she said looking at Emma as
she brought the drinks to the table.
To yank Paula's chain, she said. "I know, he put his number on the cup."
As Paula eagerly started to look at the cups she realised they were
china not paper, "Nice one, had me there."
It was perhaps the ordinariness of the way that Jane and Betty took them
out that led Emma and Paula to be sat dressed as girls and quite
comfortable about it in a public coffee bar. Again they were encouraged
to sit properly with their legs together.
Then came the next test. "Do you need the bathroom? You will need to
touch up your lipstick at the very least," asked Jane. She led an
initially reluctant Paula to the ladies. Paula was surprised how
pleasant the facilities were, the Gents were always unsavoury no matter
how upscale the situation, here it smelled fresh and was clean. She did
need to go and Jane quietly reminded her to sit in the stall. "I'll be
here when you come out," she said as she opened her bag to get her own
lipstick out.
Carrying a handbag was new of course for Paula, the hook on the back of
the door was obviously provided for that purpose. After she had
finished, wriggled back into the underwear, and washed her hands Jane
indicated she should open her shoulder bag. This was the first time she
had actually delved inside a lady's bag. There were, amongst other
things, a small mobile, tissues, a small mirror, the lipstick, even a
tampon. 'Thorough, embarrassing, but thorough,' thought Paula.
She took the lipstick and touched up her lips as directed. As they
exited the toilets and returned to the table they saw Betty was
accompanying Emma and they sat down again to wait for them.
There were more people about now but Paula did not display that she was
nervous. "Everything OK dear?" asked Jane.
"Honestly fine, I'm surprising myself. I suppose it's not much different
than wearing cycling tights as I said, the main difference is the feel
of the bra and the taste of the lipstick."
"And the attention you're getting," said Jane with a smile.
"You mean Emma don't you?" queried Paula.
"Don't look now, but those boys by the door were watching you when we
passed. Flash them a smile when you leave," Teased Jane. Paula looked
nervous then.
The young lad who's served them came around clearing tables and wiping
them down. "Here's your receipt," he said leaving the paper where Emma
had been sitting.
As Jane reached over to pick it up she saw 'Hi I'm Dave, I think you
look lovely, sorry I'm a bit shy, love you to call me 07867 ******'
"Well, apparently you both have admirers."
"Don't show Emma, she'll be mortified, terrified, or somethingified,"
asked Paula.
"It'll be our secret," Jane replied.
Betty and Emma returned, Paula could see that they had both refreshed
their lipsticks.
"Let's go, lots to do," said Jane. Emma and Paula shared a quizzical
look. 'what are they cooking up now?'
As they walked towards the door Dave the barista waved and said goodbye
looking directly at Emma. "Just give him a smile Emma," whispered Jane
"He's just being friendly," Emma responded with a shy smile and Dave's
face lit up.
Paula overheard Jane and thought, 'You cheeky so and so.'
"Don't forget your admirers Paula," Jane's aside caused Paula to glance
at the table of boys, which of course got a response from them
comprising waves smiles and even a blown kiss.
They left the caf? with both girls a little flustered and radiant.
Betty unlocked the X5 and again they set off without the girls knowing
the destination. They left the retail park and set off through many sets
of roundabouts and onto the bypass. Eventually they drew into the
carpark of Surplus Mill which appeared to be another warehouse type
shopping park.
"What are we doing here?" asked Emma.
"Shopping," said Betty.
"Do we need anything, I thought you had go our outfits for Friday?"
enquired Paula.
"You are right, we have the business suits and you are wearing casual
wear. What we didn't factor in was having you all weekend so we need
more clothes," said Jane. "We've never done this before and we want to
do our best for you. The boys want to have you cross-dressed but not in
jokey drag. We feel you need at least today and tomorrow to be ready,
maybe even some nights next week."
"I see your point, but why here?" said Paula.
"I'm guessing you've never been here, nobody knows you. Also it's very
anonymous, you'll find everyone looking at the bargains, not looking at
anyone else. We think you'll find this a less stressful experience than
the highstreet. The clothes are end of line so they're reasonably priced
if that's what you're worrying about," explained Betty.
They left the store with several large bags, full of clothes and more
shoes and lingerie etc. etc.
Emma did think this was getting out of hand, how many clothes did they
need for one day's charity event? Betty and Jane did seem to be enjoying
this too much and she began to wonder if there was a hidden agenda at
play here. However, she decided to play along, Sid and Arthur had been
good to them why worry?
They returned to the house and were told to hang their purchases away
while Betty and Jane made a light lunch of cold meats and salad.
Their clothes were comfortable and they only were aware when they passed
a mirror or were passing each other on the landing. Avoiding checking
each other out in an inappropriate way given the circumstances.
After lunch they had what became a deportment session trying to walk
properly in their new shoes. Emma had seen that Paula had already
mastered a fairly high heel and could demonstrate a feminine walk
whereas she was initially struggling with a 2" wedge and waddling rather
than walking confidently. After some guidance and practice Emma
eventually found her balance point and after borrowing Paula's highest
heels made confident and ladylike progress. She was still suspicious of
Paula's apparent expertise, this wasn't easy.
Later that afternoon Betty said, "Time to get ready girls, we're going
out tonight, Jane and I will come and help you to select some suitable
clothes and change your look to something suitable for an evening out."
"Yes," said Jane, "lay out the clothes and we'll help you with your
makeup and hair."
There then followed a flurry of choosing suitable dresses and
complimentary lingerie and shoes. The 'girls' were taken in by the
preparations and eventually found themselves, painted, primped and
dressed. Emma in a blue dress in a silky material with matching shoes
and a grey shiny tights, Paula in a bronze tinted dress with brown
stockings and brown glossy shoes. They weren't quite sure what was
happening and sat quietly in the lounge while Betty and Jane got
themselves ready.
While they were waiting, Sid and Arthur arrived back from their Golf. It
appeared that Golf was actually a secondary activity and they had
actually spent most of the day in the 19th hole given the cheerful
attitude they had and the alcoholic fumes surrounding them.
"Who are these beautiful young ladies?" said Sid. "Don't know," said
Arthur, "not our daughters that's for sure."
"Good evening Sid, Arthur, your wives have been busy, we are your
assistants Paula and Emma, I hope we meet with your approval," said
Paula with a smile.
"Splendid, splendid indeed, if I didn't know better I would never have
known," said Sid.
