I knew I had to move. I had to move and leave everything behind. It's
the only way to get my life in order. To fight the severe depressions,
the anxiety the pretending to be someone else.
But no one knew. I was on my own with everything. At work, I came up
with, "I need something new. A change, a new challenge." And it was
kind of true. Although I thought about it differently than I told
everyone. As I said. I pretended to be someone else.
I left early. I slept the night in the Hotel I worked for in the past
years. The last coworker I saw was Darren. He usually worked nights. I
was his supervisor. And still, we got along quite well.
When I finally moved, I was happy at first. I ran away. I left my
pretending life behind. Or didn't I? After all, I had a new job. I
can't be lazy there now, I need to prove myself. So, I kept pretending
and working. And working. And less crossdressing. None to be precise.
It wasn't good. It helped me to feel real. Less fake. Less pretending.
I could be me then. Before Christmas, I had two weeks of vacation time,
mostly from my overtime. And with that, my life began to change
Three years later I moved again. Back in my hometown. As a new person.
As for me. No pretending. I transitioned into the woman I always wanted
to be. Who I always buried deep inside of me. She was free. I was free.
Most people from before weren't part of my life anymore. Only the
people close to me received the notification of what was going on. For
the others, I just fell off the face of the earth and was gone.
I had settled in my life. Depression and Anxiety. Everything faded
away. I laughed. Laughed. Nothing fake. It felt good. Put the right
hormone into someone's system and Ta-Da Emotions work a lot better.
One evening about one year after I moved back home, I was on a business
trip, had a sleepless night in the hotel, and spent my time on social
media. Scrolled lackadaisical through Facebook and twitter when the
messenger lit up. It was from Darren. I told him. Back then. But then
nothing.
I was skeptical first. Why now? I replied. Just some chatting. How I
am, nothing about the past. After a few messages, he asked for my phone
number. He called me.
It was nice talking to him without being interviewed about my genitals,
which is usually one of the first questions once people find out or
haven't talked to me since. It's one of the reasons I cut ties with
some people. My genitals have nothing to do with who I am. Unless we
want to have sex it is irrelevant and none of anybody's business. And
if you start a conversation with just asking about my potential wang
you certainly won't have sex with me and find out. I have principles
and want to be respected. And maybe it was one of the reasons the
conversation with him made me smile. It felt good hearing his voice
after all those years.
We agreed to meet for a drink the next week. I wasn't sure how to feel.
He hadn't seen me since I left for my adventure 4 years earlier. As a
different person. I can't deny that I changed a lot since then. Should
I wear a dress? I could. It's not a date though. At least I think it
isn't.
But I know him. He is the one who doesn't know me. He only knows the
person who I pretended to be. I still liked most of the same things as
before. I wasn't that much different. Mostly just my presentation. And
name. Not Sean. Sarah. No dress. For now.
We both hadn't had cars at that time. We met at the bar. I was there
first. I felt nervous. How would he react? I would soon find out.
A cab stopped at the front. Darren. He came in and scanned the bar. Hew
saw me. Recognized me. I waved. No handshake, no high five but a hug. A
hug. I've never been hugged from a guy like this before. It felt good.
I felt good. No nervousness anymore. We had drinks and a nice evening.
He treated me differently. But still as a friend. When the bar closed
it felt too early. I had a good time. We agreed to meet again. He
hugged me again. Something I could get used to.
I spend the next day thinking a lot about him. Mostly as friends. But I
have to admit. He is kind of cute. And funny. He always was, to be
honest. He just never made me laugh the way he did now. I didn't fake
it. We texted a bit and met again. Just for a coffee. I between before
I had to be back at work. Just the hugs.
What's happening? Am I thinking that? I never really thought about
sexuality and to be honest, I am constantly questioning it. Before
transitioned I always leaned towards women. But honestly, sexually with
a woman, that wasn't exactly what I wanted. Yes, pretending to be a guy
was certainly not the sexiest and arousing thought I could have had in
those moments. And that's why I tried to avoid having sex. I was often
asked if I'm gay. I was adamant that I wasn't. But was I?
I don't know. I was confused back then. Being female and being
attracted to females is gay too. But being female and being attracted
to males isn't gay. So was I gay or was I straight?
I didn't know. And I still don't.
But Darren is cute. Do I want him to kiss me? Yes, I think I want that.
Do I love him? No. Do I have a crush on him? Maybe. I don't know yet.
And I don't have any idea how he feels about me. I mean there is still
a good chance he sees the guy from ages ago. Do I overthink this? Yes.
Absolutely. Can I stop? No. Somehow, I can't.
Unfortunately, we could meet over the next weeks. Our work schedules
interfered constantly. I was working too much anyway. I should look for
something else. Maybe my own business. As photographer. I'm good at
that. But having an own business means a lot of work and crazy hours
too. And I don't know if I want to have a relationship right now. I
don't know if I'm ready. Maybe I'm just curious? I mean I can't say
that I'm not. In several ways. I never had anything with a man and to
be completely honest here, I am attracted to men. Not In a way that I
can't think of anything else. And I also want to know how it feels to
have sex as a woman with a man. I had the operation. I know I'm fully
functional. But I don't want to be selfish, I don't want to use Darren.
Yes, I'm overthinking it. But sometimes my brain just can't shut up.
There was nothing else than coffee in store for Darren and me. Maybe I
should just kiss him instead of waiting for him to kiss me. It might be
weird. But maybe I can read in his reaction if he wants to or not. It
might just complicate things though. Fuck you brain.
While we were sitting at our coffee our fingers touched. We looked at
each other. It felt like an electric shock at first. Then just warm.
Neither of us pulled away. Just enjoying the touch. The feeling. He
smiled. I smiled back. We just sat there. Time stood still. When we had
to part for the day again, he kissed me on the forehead. His lips felt
great. But it was kind weird none the less. Why the forehead? We're
pretty much the same height. Did he deviate? So many thoughts. Again.
We definitely should meet for drinks or dinner sometime. Not those
vanilla afternoon meetings. I would wear a dress. And nice shoes. Maybe
it's less weird then. And I need that too. It helps to feel more
feminine. The whole message is different. And while I usually don't
care what others think, meeting in the evening, all made up and looking
nice shows others this is a date and not a casual meeting between two
friends.
And then the evening finally came. We had time for drinks. Yay. I did
my nails. Haven't had done them in ages. Hope he notices. And I went
with my favorite dress. A black and grey plaited dress. Sleeveless. But
given the temperatures. I went with a white three-quarter sleeve shirt
underneath. And black tights. And brown boots. Granted, not outstanding
in terms of color. Fall-Girl. But I feel good about it. And sexy. The
boots don't have a heal though. I don't want to be taller than him. Men
feel so intimidated by taller women.
We met at the same Bar we met for the first time. Luckily this time he
was first. Yay, great entrance for me. I spotted him after a second at
max. He got up and I walked towards him. He looked at me. Amazed. I
could tell that. "Wow," he said. Really? That's all. Well, at least
more than the days we just met for coffee. No kisses though. Maybe
later. Let's not rush anything.
The evening was great. With the second Gin and Tonic, the topic moved
slowly towards love and relationships. Suddenly he leaned over and
kissed me. On the lips. It happened so fast. I did not fight it. I
kissed back. I kissed a man. It felt good. Feeling his face stubble was
a strange sensation at first but not unpleasant. Shivers went down my
spine. He kissed well. Nothing like I ever felt before. But that was,
well, different.
"Wow," I said. It was my turn now.
"Sorry I couldn't resist. You look beautiful tonight."
Well, I can work with that. I smiled. To him. And internally. If it
gets weird. I will see. Our Future has just begun and might have a lot
in store.
