A plain white bra. Firstly, because he would be able to hide it under his
clothes. Secondly (and most importantly) because it would help with the
nipple problem. They've been getting tender and sore. He's a bit older
than I was when I first started wearing bras, so I felt confident that he
would be able to manage it. Obviously he never imagined he'd have to ever
wear one, but then I never expected to be buying ladies' underwear for my
son. It goes both ways. Anyway I worried he would refuse it out of hand,
but he came round to wearing it in the end. Even if only around the house
with me.
A pack of seven comfortable day-wear bras in various colours. Nude,
white, and black. Yes, he kicked up a fuss and yes we had a 'sit down'
about it. Explained how his nipples had started to show through his
school shirt, how I thought he ought to know before it gets too much of a
problem. Wearing a bra at school would solve that, but also give him a
bit more comfort around the sensitive parts of his chest during the day
(the 'nipple problem' again).
Ladies' knickers. Pack of five in different colours. Nice ones but not
over the top. Hips coming in quickly. Very full, wide hips. Boxer shorts
not the right shape at all, I thought. Knickers are softer and more
comfortable and fit better over his bottom. Much bigger than other boys
so we've given up looking for boys' underwear that fit (and believe me he
tried). It all hides under his clothes anyway so I told him not to worry
about it... which he then went on to do anyway. I told him I wouldn't
hear another word about it unless he got up off his bum and stopped
sitting around at home on the settee. Work your bumps and lumps off, I
said, if you're so bothered.
Black control-top high-waisted 80 denier tights. Pack of 3. Getting much
bigger and wider now. A lot like ladies' hips and ladies' thighs, which
is going to start limiting his options. Beginning to chafe on the walk
home from school. Leg hair had to go for these. Quick once over with
ladies' razor in the shower. Can't have leg hair with tights, doesn't
look right at all. Yes, even if nobody can see them. I can see them,
first of all, but also it will get uncomfortable and sweaty and damage
the material. Told him that if he's wearing his uniform nobody will ever
see. Same with the knickers and same with the bra.
Ladies' 'no VPL' tummy-to-thigh shaping knickers, nude. Nice ones, these.
I'd describe him now as 'shapely'. Pair of these pulled up and over
everything hides a few sins. Probably more female teachers in these than
female students, but he keeps fretting about his shape down there. It's
not a girdle, I said, it's just shapewear. Control pants. It will be
comfortable when you're used to it and it won't show, especially in a
nude shade. Helps a lot with the chafing problem.
Full-cup 'shape and support' underwire bra with lace detail. Pearl.
Ballooning is probably the right word, as mortified as he would be to
hear that. They're getting quite big now, and though I think they look
nicer for it, that they better suit his new proportions, he's still
getting used to the weight and how they force him to walk, etc. Nothing a
big girl his age would have too much trouble with, I don't think. Bra a
bit fancier than he's used to, but that's ladies' bras for you. Different
part of the shop than before, and there they all look like that.
Lace-edge silk-feel breathable camisole, peach. Three of them. Design on
the bra showing up through his shirts. Quite a lot to put together now
when he's getting ready in the morning, but certainly nothing
unmanageable. Intro to laundry and ironing. Lots of different fabrics
which takes a bit longer than just shoving everything into the washing
machine for me to deal with. Usual sulkiness. Has to learn that he's
growing up and that there are certain responsibilities that go along with
that. Having all these clothes too, having them all bought for him. He's
not a child anymore. You don't get anything just handed to you.
2 satin and lace long nighties, mauve. Ladies' pyjamas an option but his
hips are coming in quickly which might be a stretching issue even with
pyjama pants. They're nice nighties, though. A milestone of sorts reached
now that he's wearing ladies' things 24 hours a day. Spent an evening
sorting his wardrobe, what fits and what doesn't. No point keeping stuff
if it's too small and he's not going to be wearing it again.
Smooth-shaping full-cup 'all-day control' nude corselette. The belly
question, answered. Little rolls out front he was unhappy with. A mum can
tell these things. This one's for both home and school we (eventually)
agreed. Looks fine in it. Ever so slightly tipping the scale in the
struggle to control and manage those hips and that chest. The corselette
works well with the shaping knickers, tights and cami over the top. There
are advantages to being a skinny, flat-chested woman. Just watch this one
struggle ungraciously into his shapewear every morning and you'll see.
Plain white girl's school blouse. Saw this one coming, but it didn't make
it any easier for him. Far too big for boys' shirts now. All been
underwear so far but by the time you're in full women's underwear it's no
secret that you're going to run into problems with men's clothes. Blouses
are a better shape for his chest. Can only tell he's in a corselette if
you know what to look for. Hips and breasts less easy to hide at this
point, but his underwear is doing a good deal of work smoothing things
out in that area.
One navy and white striped and one plain black jersey maxi-dress. For
home. I wear mostly jeans or leggings at home but he's far more shapely
than I am. It makes stuff like that much more difficult. Jeans are
obviously now out of the question. A dress is not so bad considering
everything else at this point, I said, although I admit a dress is one
thing he won't ever be able to hide. I still think it's a step in the
right direction. Looks comfortable, not flashy or anything like that. One
to curl up on the sofa with or do housework or laundry in.
Girl's school trousers, black. These were nice but we quickly realised
they weren't working. He has a large bottom, which is the main problem.
It's the hips. A day or two before we gave up. Stretching and tearing
along the seams even in biggest sizes. Dresses at home never have this
problem.
Girl's plain black pleated school skirt. Three. Probably the biggest step
so far, but he can't say we didn't try. Even in his shapewear girls'
trousers don't fit properly. Bit the bullet and got enough for the school
week. Long enough to cover his shaping knickers and looks fine, good,
even, with tights and the blouse. Hair past his ears which makes it long
enough to style with help of some accessories.
Patent leather black ballet flats with bow detail. Boys shoes were a no-
no with the skirts. This one was self-explanatory and he didn't take much
persuading. Looked comfortable and stylish, I thought. Always needs
tights with these, I said, but I don't think that's going to be a
problem.
One full-length satin slip, black, and two nude half-slips. Swear by
these when I'm in a dress or skirt. Protects the material and gives a bit
more modesty. Helps him cover his underwear and makes it a bit smoother
underneath. Nice effect. If I was worried I was becoming my mother
before, I certainly am now. 'Wear a slip, you're not properly dressed
without one!' Always listen to your Mother!
Long sleeved silk-feel pussybow blouse, in peach. A bit of a guilty
choice, but when your son is in dresses and silk slips there's more
wiggle-room. A very nice blouse for home. Neat and modest but very
feminine. Suitable for big-breasted girls, which is how I explained it to
him. Keep the bow tied as it is and it will look nice, I said. I don't
mind you wearing it for housework, and I would much rather have you
looking nice considering all the money I've spent and work we've put in
so far. Keep your cami or slip on underneath.
Ladies' lined office skirt, black. To go with the blouse. Good shape and
quality, long enough to be modest but not frumpy. Nice and neat and tidy
for home. Works well with the flats and tights. Trousers off-limits,
obviously, and he already had the slips to go with it. Comes home, takes
off his school blouse and skirt, into his home clothes (one of the
dresses or the skirt and blouse), and that's that, quick and easy. No big
change since he'd already been wearing dresses.
Mrs. Benson's patent leather medium-heel court shoes. A lovely pair of
shoes. Very smart. A gift from Mrs. Benson (the school's home economics
teacher). She turned up at the house after school. Caught him busy around
the house in his new blouse which was a bit of a shock for him, but he
settled down. They weren't new shoes, she admitted, but it was a waste to
have them stuffed away at the back of her closet. Worn to her sister's
wedding a few years ago. She'd asked him his size at school and was
delighted that they were the same, she said. He'd never worn heels
before, obviously, but they definitely fit. A good reason to learn how to
walk in them. Mrs. Benson was all smiles. Had tea and a natter.
Ladies' gingham bibbed full-skirted apron. I'd hidden it away in the
spare bedroom. Unwanted gift. Not my style at all. Looking at it now?
Kind of delightful with the strings cinched good and tight with a bow in
the middle. With the shoes? A picture. There's nothing stopping bigger-
breasted, fuller-figure girls from looking nice, graceful, and feminine.
If anything it helps. Dug out the apron as a way of saying a thank you to
Mrs. Benson when he visits her after school tomorrow. Told him to fold it
up (neatly!) in a bag with his heels and a change of clothes (clean ones,
please!)
Mrs. Benson's fitted house-dress in pale blue. A really nice dress. A
little old-fashioned (she called it vintage), but very tasteful. He was
wearing make-up for the first time, not to mention scarlet lipstick.
Flitting around Mrs. Benson's house in his apron playing mother. I think
she wants him for her own, the way she looks at him. And well, why not?
Try getting a girl these days into a dress like that doing housework.
Never ever going to happen. Your typical teenage girl's too busy with
boys and Instagram to care about keeping house or looking smart and nice.
They'd run a mile at the mere hint of having to spend 5 minutes with
teacher out of school hours, let alone doing her housework or borrowing
her clothes. Now, to be honest, I felt I'd done all that I could by that
point. I'd laid down a foundation. Mrs. Benson knew all kinds of things I
didn't about how to be a woman in the traditional sense. Stuff my mum
probably told me back in the day that I've just gone and forgotten over
the years. And, well, maybe if his budding breasts and motherly hips have
put an abrupt end to his life as a teenage boy, perhaps Mrs. Benson can
show him that being a lady really isn't all that bad?
