November 25, 1986, Chicago, Illinois

“The board approved the budget with consulting, rather than full-time staff,” Dave said as soon as I’d said ‘hello’ when I answered the phone.

“Excellent!” I said. “Did the budget request cover both programmers for the whole year?”

“It did. They did approve an additional position, but that’s for supervising the computer operators and managing the Prime Computers, not for programmers. That’s exactly what Mr. Forster had in his original budget request.”

“So they went against the department head?” I asked.

“It seems like he’s on his way out. Someone mentioned that he’s retiring soon.”

“Interesting. But that’s great news, Dave! Have a safe drive back. I’ll see you in the office tomorrow!”

I hung up the phone and yelled ‘Yes!’ and pumped my fist. We’d more or less locked in another hugely profitable year for NIKA Consulting.

November 27, 1986, Chicago, Illinois

My dad and I were sitting in my office talking. My parents and brother had arrived the previous night and had stayed at a hotel. The turkey was in the oven and I had some time before I needed to start making the mashed potatoes, corn, and other dishes that we’d serve at 5:00pm. Although that was a bit later than I preferred, we had to accommodate to Jessica’s work schedule. She’d be home about 4:00pm, and I wanted her to have time to shower and change without feeling rushed.

“What do you think about the Attorney General’s announcement that the profits from covert weapons sales to Iran were illegally diverted to the anti-communist Contra rebels in Nicaragua?” I asked.

“I’m not surprised. This has Agency written all over it, and honestly, arming the Contras is good policy. Congress was wrong to block funding anti-communists in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine isn’t dead, and it shouldn’t be. I do think appointing retired Senator John Tower was a good move.”

“Do you believe that Reagan didn’t know?” I asked.

“If this went down like I think it did, then he probably didn’t. I know this was the National Security Agency, but a spook is a spook!”

I nodded, “You wouldn’t want to tell me more about what you did, would you?”

“I can’t just yet,” he said. “I have you in private for a few minutes, so I want to ask how things are going with your marriage? It’s been about a year now.”

“Everything is fine,” I said. “It’s actually tougher on Jessica than it is on me, because I have Kara with me all of the time. I miss Jess when she isn’t here, but I keep busy with work, karate, and Jesse.”

“When is Elyse due?” he asked.

“Late in May or early June. Kathy’s due around the same time.”

“I sure hope that’s Kurt’s baby,” he chuckled.

“Dad, if there is one firm rule that I have, it’s that I do NOT mess with another man’s wife, or even his steady girlfriend.”

“A wise policy, Son. It avoids being shot by a jealous husband, or worse!”

“What are you going to do now that you’ve sold your businesses?” I asked.

“Well, I have a consulting agreement with the new owners for a year, and after that, I’ll probably look for a clerical job. Something that’s not too demanding but keeps me occupied. It’s not like I’ll need the income!”

I was thinking that it was also a way to stay out of the house all day, but I knew my dad wouldn’t tolerate an insolent comment like that from me, and if I was honest with myself, he shouldn’t. The terms of his relationship with my mom were no more any of my business than the terms of my relationships with Jessica and Kara were any of his.

“I never saw you sitting on the beach sipping Mai Tais,” I said. “What about traveling?”

“Long flights are not in the cards, given my hips. Speaking of which, I have replacement surgery scheduled for August.”

“Why August?” I asked, surprised that he’d postpone the procedure that far into the future.

He smiled, “That’s when my consulting agreement runs out.”

“Where are you having the surgery done?”

“At the University of Cincinnati,” he answered.

“Keep us posted,” I nodded. “Are you spending time with Stephanie while you’re here?”

“Yes, we’re taking her to breakfast before we leave tomorrow.”

“OK. We should probably get back to the rest of the guests,” I said.

We hung out with our friends, waiting for Jessica, as well as the sailors from RTC Great Lakes. They arrived just before 2:00pm.

“Welcome!” I said to four young men in dress blues who stood outside my door. “I’m Steve, and this is one of my wives, Kara!”

There were four stunned expressions before one of the men spoke up.

“Did you say ‘wives’?” he asked.

“Yes. It’s complicated, but I have two wives.”

“You’ll have to explain that one!” he said.

“Oh, he will,” I heard Nick call out from behind me.

All four recruits snapped to attention when they saw him.

“Relax,” I said with a smile. “Once you pass through this door, there are no issues of rank. We’re all just friends! Come inside and meet Lieutenant JG Nicholas Evans. Nick, tell these poor kids to relax, please!”

“At ease!” he grinned. “I’m a JAG lawyer, not a line officer. And I promise, nothing that happens here today will be reported to anyone! Steve would kick me out of the house and Bethany would never speak to me again if I did anything like that!”

“You heard him!” I said. “Now, what are your names? And if any of you call me ‘sir’ I’m going to be offended. My dad is a retired Chief, not an officer! I’m Steve.”

“Patrick O’Leary.”

“John Fordham.”

“Gale Matthews.”

“Monty Dale.”

“Nice to meet all of you,” I said, shaking their hands. “Come in and relax. I’m working on dinner right now.”

“He cooks, too?” John asked Kara.

“He’s an excellent cook. You’ll be stuffed full of good food before you leave here tonight!”

We ushered the sailors into the great room and introduced them to everyone, and then I had to go back to the kitchen to check on things. I’d need to peel potatoes soon, but I had a bit of time so I joined everyone in the great room to talk and get better acquainted with our visitors. The four young men were talking to my dad about his time in the Navy during WWII. I listened and learned a few more things about his service that I hadn’t known. He’d earned a Purple Heart as well as a Navy Cross for gallantry when their destroyer was torpedoed in the North Atlantic.

I excused myself because I had to go back to the kitchen, and Sofia and Kara came with me to help. I had just put the potatoes in the pot to boil when Jessica came into the kitchen. Kara and I each greeted her with a hug and kiss, and she went straight upstairs to shower and change out of her scrubs. Twenty minutes later she was back in the kitchen. She offered to help, but I told her to go to the great room and relax with our guests.

Just before 5:00pm, we called everyone to the dining room. We had put the extra leaves into the table, and set up two folding tables to accommodate everyone. I’d had to make some tough decisions as to who would sit where, but in the end, all of my housemates had agreed that the main table should be for me, my wives, my parents, the Navy recruits, Bethany, Nick, Jennifer, Josie, and Jesse. That relegated Sofia and Stavros, Alejandra and Leila and their dates, my brother, my sister and Jorge, and Prajesh and Anala to the other tables. Elyse had decided to go home, because her grandmother was ill, rather than stay in Chicago as she had originally planned.

“We don’t stand on ceremony here, and unless someone insists, we don’t usually pray. So, Happy Thanksgiving and dig in!”

Our visiting sailors ate with gusto, having their first home-cooked meal in over four weeks. Institutional cooking wasn’t the best, and I couldn’t imagine that the food at RTC Great Lakes was anything more than passable. The conversation was lively, and I found out quite a bit more about the recruits. Patrick was from Arizona and had never even seen the ocean. John was from New York and loved to sail. Gale was from Texas and had grown up on a ranch. Monty was from Alabama and was a NASCAR fan.

“Who do you root for, Monty?” I asked casually.

“It’s a trap!” Bethany giggled. “Steve’s a HUGE fan and is friends with a guy named Bill Elliott!”

“Bethany!” I said in mock outrage.

“You know Bill Elliott?” Monty asked.

“Sure. I’ve been in his garage, his pits, and had dinner at his house several times. A very good friend of mine is from Dawsonville. She introduced us. In fact, she and her husband were just married at the track in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. I was there.”

“The one where Alan Kulwicki was best man and Davey Allison and Kyle Petty were there?” he asked with a surprised look on his face.

“That’s the one. How did you know about it?”

“It got a write-up in my hometown paper. I’m from right outside Birmingham. You might have heard of it - Hueytown.”

I laughed, “Then I know who you root for! The home city of the Alabama Gang! My friend’s new husband, Jason Stuart, who they call ‘Red’, is a big fan of Bobby Allison, though he works the pits for Kulwicki now.”

“Can we change topics?” Jessica teased.

“She doesn’t like ‘Go Fast! Turn Left!” I chuckled.

“That’s a shame,” Monty said with a smile.

“Patrick, you joined the Navy and have never seen the ocean?” Kara asked.

“The biggest body of water I ever saw before Lake Michigan is Lake Mead which is behind Hoover Dam. I’ve never been on a boat. Ever.”

“Then why join the Navy?”

“To see the world! Haven’t you seen the commercials? But, seriously, because the training is the best, and it beats going to college for four years. This way, I get trained and get paid, and hopefully I get to some ports overseas.”

“Do you know what your assignment is?” I asked.

“Avionics is what I’m signed up for. Hopefully, I’ll be assigned to a carrier. But I won’t know until I actually get my orders after ‘A’ school.”

“What about the rest of you?” I asked.

“Electronics,” John said.

“Administration or logistics,” Gale said.

“Mechanic,” Monty said. “I used to work in a speed shop and love taking things apart and putting them back together.”

“You seem to have a lot of Navy friends,” Patty said.

“I do. In addition to Nick, here, there’s my friend Pete who’s an NIS agent, my friend Aimee who’s at the Academy, my friend Napoleon McCallum who’s going to play for the Raiders while serving in the Navy, and about a dozen ROTC students, a bunch of whom have just graduated.”

“Wow! How did you get so involved?” she asked.

“I tutored a couple of ROTC men five years ago. I met Nick and another officer, Karl, through Pete. I met Aimee through her father, and I went to High School with Napoleon and he lived less than a mile away.”

“Did you ever think of joining the Navy?” Monty asked.

“Not seriously. I had a partial scholarship to IIT and quite a bit of money that I earned from a business I ran in High School, so I didn’t need ROTC. By the time I graduated, I was ready to start my own business again. If we’re going to be a Navy family, it’ll have to be one of my kids.”

We finished the main course, and then my wives and I went to the kitchen to bring out apple, pecan, and pumpkin pies, along with hand-packed ice cream from Oberweis. Sofia and Stephanie brought out coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Everyone appreciated the excellent ice cream, and I was glad that I’d gone out of my way to get it.

We’d just finished our dessert and coffee when the doorbell rang.

“Good timing! That will be our ride back to base,” Monty said.

“We’re really glad you were all here,” I said. “Keep in touch! And if you’re back in Chicago, give me a call. You’re always welcome here!”

Everyone shook hands and then Nick and I walked to the front door with the four recruits. A civilian driver was waiting for them with a van that was double-parked on Woodlawn Avenue. We said goodbye, shook hands again, and watched them walk out to the van.

“It’s too bad they have to be back so early,” I said.

“True, but did you see how happy they were? That’s the last home-cooked meal they’ll see until several weeks into ‘A’ school, and that’s if they’re lucky! It’s quite a few weeks before they get leave of any kind.”

We went back into the dining room to have another cup of coffee, and then a bunch of us pitched in to clean up and do the dishes. Prajesh and Anala left almost immediately, which didn’t surprise me. I was glad to see them and reminded myself to invite them over for a more private meal in the near future.

After dinner, my dad and I were once again sitting in my office talking, but this time about business. There was a knock at the door to the office.

“Yes?” I called out.

The door opened to reveal Sofia with a very worried look.

“Steve, you need to come to the great room right now!” she said hurriedly.

“What’s up?” I asked, getting up to follow her.

“Your sister and mom!”

“Shit,” I sighed. “Dad, I guess you should come, too.”

We walked into the great room to see my sister standing right in front of my mom, and Kara with a firm grip on Stephanie’s right arm. Jessica was, for some reason, standing in front of Jennifer, who was holding Jesse, and it looked like Jessica was a lioness guarding a cub. Bethany was right next to her, with Nick at her side.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“The pervert tried to pick up your son,” Stephanie hissed. “And Mom said we had to let him!”

“Mom, there was one ground rule for Jeff being here. He is NOT to touch Jesse. Period.”

“He’s your brother and Jesse’s uncle,” my mom protested.

“And a convicted child molester!” my sister hissed, trying to shake her arm free from Kara’s grasp.

“Stephanie, stay calm,” Kara said gently. “Steve, Jessica, and I have this under control.”

“Mom, I don’t care what his relationship is,” I said firmly but gently. “You know what happened. And Jennifer, Josie, and I all agree on this. Jeff is not to touch any of my children. Ever. He’s not even to be alone in the same room with them.”

Bethany spoke up, “Mrs. Adams, it’s a well-known fact that the incidence of repeat offenses amongst pedophiles is very high. In fact, it’s amongst the highest for any mental illness. I suggest you reconsider your demand.”

“He didn’t do it!” my mom screeched. “He was falsely accused!”

“That tired story?” I said testily, but then spoke calmly. “The first time we know about was when you paid the parents of the kids to drop the charges and have their kids recant! Joe Caldwell had no reason to lie about that. And that’s just the ones we know about. Payoffs didn’t work the second time.”

“You’re just trying to deflect attention from your perverted lifestyle!”

“Really, Mrs. Adams?” Jessica said. “Didn’t we have this conversation once already? Do we need to have it again? Or do you wish to never see your grandchildren? I’m sure Jennifer, Josie, Elyse, and Kara agree with me on this. You can act like a reasonable human being or not. It’s your decision. But one thing I won’t tolerate, any more than any of the other women in this house will, is allowing a convicted sex offender to touch a child, when he’s KNOWN to have exposed himself to pre-pubescent girls. This is as much my house now as it is anyone’s, and I’ll forbid you from coming here. And I know that Steve will back me up on this.”

Anne And Mary Book IIChapter 30 Thanksgiving

At five o'clock on Wednesday they turned the phones over to voice mail and the call center. Only the number known only to family would ring. Supper was quiet and slow. Afterward, Sigrid said, "Boy, I'm pooped. It's been a great fall, but I am wiped. Tom? Let's go upstairs tonight. I need some sleep." To no-one's surprise, the Big Bed was empty that night. The next morning, work began on Thanksgiving dinner. The only guests were Sarah and Steve, who arrived early and pitched into the...

The Strawberry Patch Book 3 Life On The SavannahChapter 21 The Holiday Stories Thanksgiving

It was a normal Saturday night at The Club-Club, but the clean up after the gig was longer than normal due to the high energy of the show. My guys rocked their asses off trying to keep up with our guest, not one of our ‘friends’ but a strong player and a fun guy. I sent the wives and family home and stayed to close up the club. As I was leaving the overnight security guys let me out of the gate and closed it behind me, making me very glad that I had thought of the idea of letting people keep...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

Happy Thanksgiving

I was at work, the day before Thanksgiving down in the count room. I walk passed the door to the counter and see Emily on the other side of the bars that cover the counter window. Emily is 45-50 ish, and sturdy. She has a wide firm butt and average breasts, her face is like a 5. Her messy curly hair gives her a bit of a trailer trash vibe, but in a good way. She seemed like the girl next door. Very approachable. Like she would willingly put out and then brag about it to her friends.I said, "Are...

Oscar Home for Thanksgiving

My plane left Paris an hour late. It was a nonstop, night flight to New York. We were on hold, apparently, for some late VIP's important enough to hold up an entire flight and screw up schedules. However, I wasn't particularly disturbed as I was in no real hurry. I also had plenty to do on my laptop, so the time passed fairly quickly for me. My seat was next to the window just two rows back from the front entrance. A bustle of activity heralded the presence of our late arrivals. One...

Airbag Thanksgiving

Hey folks. This is this year's Thanksgiving story and it's a little bit different. I broke the pattern a bit with this one. It's also the first Thanksgiving story I've written without that epic everyone gathered around the table food fight. I figure two or three of those was enough. Thanks to Sir Charles for his usual editing magic. I'm sure that both he and I missed a few things here and there. And I'm also sure that those of you with sharp eyes will point them out to me. Thanks very...

Pink Undies Chloe at Thanksgiving

Sunday afternoon, early October "Yes yes yes yes, oh god oh god don't stop don't stop!" I didn't. No way I was stopping. "Yeah yeah yeah!" In the next moment, though, I had Kathleen's legs back against her shoulders as I throbbed and spurted as deep inside her as I could get, and I had to stop then. "Oh, god." "You can say that again." She smiled up at me, her lips soft and a little puffy, her eyes dreamy. "Oh, god." "Hah hah hah." I softened and slipped out and moved...

Sophia awoke in the morning, realizing quickly she was alone. She stretched, and looked at the foot of the bed and saw Warren at his desk, headphones on his head, typing away at his computer. Sophia crawled to the end of the bed, so he could see her. He took the headphones off. "Good morning, Pookie. Sleep well?" "Best I've slept in months. What time is it?" "8:30." "Whatcha doin'?" Thursday morning was an exercise in controlled chaos. I had time to do a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon, which could be a bit of a luxury. I tried to cook a nice family breakfast on weekends but shift work with the MPD meant I frequently missed weekends. At least three of us ate well. Introduction: At the turn of the nineteenth century an open sleigh was like a convertible in the 1950s Deep in the North Woods Osborn lived miles from town on a small lake in Wisconsin. It was the early 1900s and the automobile had hardly been seen anywhere in those small isolated places. People lived there to cut lumber or work in the copper mines. He worked deep underground and took his meat pie in a bucket on the long walk before sunrise every day. He was a smart young man. Father built...

Jock Tales--Happy Fucking ThanksgivingWell, as the title indicates—it's Thanksgiving day. I loved this day—it was one of the few times I 'let myself go', and just ate what I wanted. The Diamond Dawgs had all assembled at the house to help out with the move. After meeting over at dad's new apartment last week, Kelso and Petroni, and Jackson, had a long talk with dad, and filled him in on pretty much everything that had been going on. After Wednesday classes, Will, Alex and I hit the supermarket. We got all the stuff I needed for Thanksgiving dinner, plenty of beer. The guy at the liquor store even let us buy a nice bottle of wine. He knows us pretty well by now. We stopped for supper at the Union. No point in paying extra or trying to make supper in an unfamiliar kitchen. And the weather was cold enough so nothing would spoil in the car. At Henry's house, we put stuff away, looked around. For Blood or MoneyChapter 25 Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING DAY DAWNED DREARY and gray like every other November day in Seattle. I woke up feeling pleasantly well. I did an assessment of all my vital signs to make sure I was alive. After dinner with Riley Wednesday night, I came home and went soundly to sleep in my bed instead of my chair. This morning my heart rate was normal, I had no headache, even my back didn’t hurt, and I could take deep even breaths without gasping. As Methuselah said, “I feel like I’m ninety again.” I was...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

The cold North wind blew down the leaf strewn street causing Leah to shiver. The black mini and fishnets she wore were almost like nothing against the late November weather. Fun thanksgiving

Introduction: I had requests for a sequel with my brother, it did not happen, but the possibility developed into this story. Just when I thought I was too old for more wild sexual experiences, I am only 36 by the way, Thanksgiving weekend allowed me to revisit a past experience. I was hosting Thanksgiving this year so my brother and his 25 year old wife along with our parents were all at my house. They were all staying through Sunday so they could play with my new daughter who had just been...

The Week After Thanksgiving

I have been married to my husband for ten years and we have always had a very close relationship. Neither one of us are into anything kinky and our sex life seems to be OK, although I must admit that I often find myself engaging in a little secret self-play to satisfy my yearnings and needs from time to time. I can’t deny my Hispanic heritage and the passion is undeniable. Rick, my wonderful husband, had to go on an extended business trip the day after Thanksgiving. It was a pre-planned...

A liquid satin slip and Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving seemed as though it was going to be pretty quiet for us this year. We had a huge family reunion this summer and there's a wedding happening after the first of the year so we decided to stay close to home.We rolled out of bed in the morning and lazied around for a few hours. Jodi decided that we should go for a drive and find a nice restaurant for dinner. So... we took our showers and put on some nicer clothes. I wore dress slacks and a sweater. She chose a dress that I just...

Thanksgiving

This is part of an ongoing series of diary entries. If you want more background check out a few of my other stories especially “Dangerous Game,” “Changing the rules” or “A hot shower.” This year my husband and I found ourselves with no set plans for Thanksgiving. We had a mellow relaxing day, put the Christmas decorations up and made dinner. Late in the evening I got a text from Sean. He had finished his family dinner and was hoping to kill a few hours before heading home so he could avoid...

THANKSGIVING

Lynn's sexy, shoeless foot with her bright red perfectly-manicured toenails was still retreating off Aaron's leg and had barely cleared his chair when Tom confirmed the suspected transgression by dropping his napkin on purpose to make absolutely sure he knew what was happening underneath the dinner table. He knew already, but wanted to see it with his own eyes. When Lynn saw Tom duck away from her, she tried to retrieve her foot but she was far too committed to rubbing Aaron's thigh and...

Kristies Thanksgiving

Kristie Davenport saw her mother bearing down on her from across the living room like a battleship weathering a rough sea. Kristie took a deep breath to steady her nerves. A lame mother was hard enough to bear, a lame mother who has already had to buy her daughter one full set of new bras is harder still to bear... and if my chest doesn't stop growing real soon, mother's going to have to get a third set in two months. And if the lamers at school notice, they are going to start making cow...

Anne and MaryChapter 32 Annes Thanksgiving

I drove home on Wednesday afternoon; cut my history class. The weather was cold, gray, but no snow yet. It was good to come home. Mom was making supper in a t-shirt when I came in the door. I hugged her and hugged her and rubbed her ass. Frank and Ralph were there, too. And Dad. It felt so good to hug him again. We all talked thirteen to the dozen through supper and a long time after. Frank told us about his work at school, his engineering drawings and such. Ralph showed me his latest...

1993Chapter 11 A Bountiful Thanksgiving

"Hello?" "Hi Karen, I've been thinking about you." Silence ... complete silence for a full minute. "You treated me badly, Sammy." "I know, that's one of the things I want to talk to you about." "I know what you want to talk to me about, and I don't want to listen." "Let me give you my number in case you change your mind." "I have your number, but you'll wait a long time if you expect me to call." The line went dead and she was gone before I had a chance to tell her...

One Bad WishChapter 4 Thanksgiving

It was only a week before Thanksgiving, when the change happened. Karen Connors realized that she only had one person to celebrate the holiday with, her mother-in-law, Edith. Her own mother lived in retirement community in Florida. Her arthritis made coming up north very difficult in the winter. She only visited in the summer. Karen was used to a large group for the annual feast; now it was just two. It suddenly occurred to her that many people were in the same boat as her. They had no one...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 20 The Winds of Change

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 64 Pull the Other One

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 59 New Friends

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

The OutsiderChapter 15 Two Thanksgivings

Mike and Ruthie stopped in Santa Cruz for smoothies before driving the final part of their trek up to the university. The stop and having a fruit drink improved Mike's mood. He did not exactly cheer up, but instead of being depressed he became more pensive. He did not want to remain in Santa Cruz, but Ruthie could tell that he did not want to go back to the university either. She suggested going to a lookout just north of Davenport. A few minutes later the couple was standing at a railing...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 32 Still Together

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...
