“What the hell?” I asked to nobody in particular.

“Ma’am,” a police officer said to Valerie, “we’re going to need to search the rest of the house. The warrant gives us permission to do that.”

Valerie nodded.

“We’ll also need to interview each of you. Detectives will be here shortly. Please just stay where you are.”

“Officer,” I said. “May I ask why Mr. Spurgeon was arrested?”

“Production and possession of child pornography. I suspect there will also be sexual assault charges stemming from that.”

His videotapes! Holy shit! One of the girls must have been upset enough to call the police. Or her parents had called the police! And Samantha’s reaction in the garden said she knew that this was coming. Or that something was coming. I pushed that thought out of my head. I’d deal with it afterwards.

About twenty-five minutes later, the detectives arrived and I did a double take.

“Vincent?” I asked in surprise.

“Steve? What are you doing here?”

“Samantha is a friend of the family. I was here for her birthday dinner.”

He nodded, “Willy, you probably should interview Steve. My wife works for him.”

The detective he addressed waved his hand and led me to the dining room and motioned to a chair. I sat down.

“I’m Detective Sergeant Willy Engels. Are you willing to answer questions for me?”

“Am I a suspect?” I asked.

“At this time, I don’t have anything to suggest you should be,” he said.

“Then I’ll answer, though I may decide to call my attorney if the questions make me uncomfortable.”

“Let’s hope that’s not necessary. Would you tell me your full name, address, age, and occupation?”

I gave him the information.

“Do you have a vehicle here?”

“The BMW out front is registered to my company. It’s a corporate lease, assigned to me. The paperwork is in the glove box if you need to see it.”

“Not at this time. What is your relationship with Noel Spurgeon?”

“I know him through the Lundgren Foundation. His firm, Spurgeon Capital, handles my investments. His daughter is living with us while she’s attending Mother McCauley High School and she’ll continue to do so when she attends the University of Chicago starting in the Fall.”

“Why is she living with you?”

“She wasn’t comfortable living at home, and after talking to my wife, who’s a doctor at UofC Hospital, Samantha asked us if she could live with us. Her father was OK with that, and we have a signed statement to that effect because she was only seventeen at the time.”

“And you were here today for what reason?”

“Samantha’s eighteenth birthday,” I said. “She and her parents invited me for dinner.”

“What other interactions have you had with Mr. Spurgeon?”

“I’ve been here for dinner a few times, and also spent the night here a few times, but that was nearly a year ago. I also see him at Lundgren Foundation dinners and parties.”

“Did you observe Mr. Spurgeon’s behavior at these parties?”

“It was pretty normal,” I said. “Nothing really out of the ordinary.”

“Did he dance with teenage girls?”

“He did. But that wasn’t really out of the ordinary. I’ve had a few of the girls ask me to dance over the past year.”

“Were you at the wedding of Ms. Jeri Lundgren and Navy Lieutenant Commander Howard Pointe?”

“Sure. Jeri works for me, just as Detective Captain Grayson’s wife does. And Howard is a close friend.”

“Did you see Mr. Spurgeon dance inappropriately with a fifteen-year-old girl?”

“I saw him dance with several girls,” I said. “But I wasn’t paying close attention to him. I was with my wife, kids, and a bunch of friends.”

“Do you know a miss Shelby Temple?”

I needed to be very careful. What I had SEEN versus what Samantha had told me. I was only going to say what I’d actually seen, or heard directly from Shelby or her parents.

“I do. I met her at a Lundgren Foundation party just after Christmas. She attends a boarding school in France.”

“Did you see Mr. Spurgeon with her?”

“I believe they danced at the party, but I really can’t say anything more because I wasn’t paying close attention to them.”

“Do you know a Miss Sherry Francone?”

That question made me a bit nervous, but I was fully in the clear. I’d never seen her anywhere except that one dance, and I’d been VERY careful about how I treated her.

“Maybe,” I said. “I met a girl by that first name at that same Foundation party. I danced with her, once, at her request. I discovered that she was only thirteen, so I refused to dance with her again. The makeup made her look sixteen or seventeen.”

“What about a Miss Denise Brown?”

“She’s a friend of Samantha’s. I met her at a Lundgren Foundation party; I think it was in September. I danced with her at Samantha’s request.”

“Did you see Noel Spurgeon dance with her?”

“I don’t recall about that night, but I did see them dance at Jeri’s wedding.”

He asked me about six other girls, but I didn’t recognize any of the names.

“Have you, at any time, seen any women under the age of seventeen in this house?”

“No. Other than at Lundgren Foundation functions, I’ve only seen Samantha’s friends when they visit her at my house. And those friends who’ve come to my house are from Mother McCauley, and all of them are at least seventeen.”

“Have you noticed any video recording equipment in the house?”

“Besides the security system? Just a couple of VCRs.”

“Have you been in Mr. Spurgeon’s study?”

“A couple of times, yes.”

“Did you notice anything odd?”

I thought back and shook my head, “No. It’s similar to my study at home. Bookshelves, a nice desk, comfortable chairs, that kind of thing.”

“What can you tell me about Miss Spurgeon’s relationship with her father?”

“They were never close, and other than with respect to his business, he really didn’t have much to do with her. She was given free-rein to do what she pleased. He bought her a brand new Corvette for her seventeenth birthday; she has her own horse, and a pilot’s license. She has access to some kind of prop plane she flies as a pilot, as well as the corporate jet.”

“How would you describe her?”

“Until recently? A spoiled brat. She’s changed since she came to live with my family. We pretty much required her to live the same way we do, which for her means holding a part-time job, doing chores, and being responsible to the adults in the house for where she goes and who she’s with.”

“Why did she come to live with you?”

And this was where I pretty much had no choice but to sell Noel Spurgeon down the river. I’d make a half-hearted attempt to avoid answering, but I wasn’t going to lie.

“Because she didn’t like living at home.”

“For what reason?”

I knew that question was coming.

“She wasn’t comfortable bringing her friends here.”

“Why was that?” he asked, predictably.

“Because according to Samantha, her dad hit on every one of her friends. It’s one of the things she complained bitterly to me about. And what drove her to want to leave home. She couldn’t have friends at home without her dad hitting on them. And that made her very uncomfortable.”

“I understand that Mr. Spurgeon has homes besides Chicago. Have you been to any of them?”

I shook my head, “No. I know about them from Samantha, but I’ve never been to any of them.”

“To your knowledge, was Mrs. Spurgeon aware of what her husband was doing?”

“If you mean with regard to what the officer said before, I have no idea,” I said. “The topic obviously never came up in my conversations with her.”

“And Mr. Les Newman? Do you know if he was aware?”

“Again, I have no idea. I’ve only spoken to him briefly when he’s greeted me at the door, or when I’ve called here on the phone.”

“Do you know his exact role?”

I shook my head, “No. I know he drives and acts as a bodyguard, and I think he’s responsible for the security system here, and he also acts like a butler. You’d have to ask Mr. or Mrs. Spurgeon what his exact duties are.”

“You mentioned horses and a light aircraft. Where are those housed?”

“The horses are boarded at a farm in Plainfield. The light plane is, I think, at DuPage airport. I’ve never seen the plane Samantha flies. She took lessons at that airfield, I believe.”

“OK. I think that’s all I need at the moment. Will you be available for more questions should we have any?”

“Sure. Let me give you my card. I’ll write my cellular number on the back as well.”

I took a business card from the case in my suit-coat pocket and wrote my cell number on it, then handed it to the detective.

“Wait here, if you would. You’ll be free to go once we finish searching the house.”

“Thanks,” I said.

It was nearly an hour before anyone spoke to me again.

“Steve?” Vincent Grayson called out.

“Yes?”

“I think we’re done. You’re free to go. Are you taking Miss Spurgeon with you?”

“I think that’s up to her,” I said. “Is her mom under arrest?”

“No. And I have to say I’m pleased that you don’t seem to have any involvement here.”

“Not beyond being Samantha’s friend and having my investments with her father’s firm. Let me go see what she wants to do.”

I went to the great room where Samantha was talking quietly with her mother. The police were carrying out containers that were marked ‘Evidence’. One of the Sheriff’s deputies told Valerie that they were finished, and they left.

“I need to call Noel’s attorney,” Valerie said.

She left Samantha and me in the great room.

“Are you coming home with me?” I asked.

“Yes. Let’s wait until my mom decides what to do.”

“Are you OK?” I asked Samantha.

“Yes.”

“Are you going to explain?” I asked.

“Later,” she said quietly.

Her mom returned about five minutes later.

“His attorney is heading to the Glencoe Police Station. Given the charges and the probable bail amount, he’s likely going to be there overnight.”

“Are you OK?” I asked.

“Yes, you kids can run along if you want. I also called my sister. I’m going to her house for the night. I’ll lock up when I leave.”

“What about Les?” I asked.

“He was arrested as well,” Valerie said.

The way she was responding made me even MORE suspicious.

“Let’s go, Steve,” Samantha said.

I followed her to a room just off the foyer where our coats and hats were. She retrieved my car keys from a hook on the wall, and we went out the front door. We got into the car, and I pulled out of the parking spot onto the drive and we left the property.

“I think you need to clue me in,” I said.

“Figure it out. What was today?”

“Your eighteenth birthday,” I said.

“And what happened?”

“Holy shit! Your dad signed over control of Spurgeon Capital to you in the event he was unable to run the company. Jesus, Samantha!”

“Yes. As of the emergency board meeting that will certainly be held tomorrow, I am Spurgeon Capital.”

“What about your mom?”

“She gets a $30 million parting gift from me for divorcing my dad and not interfering in any way. That’s a fare better deal than her pre-nup, obviously.”

“And you get the company free and clear?”

“It’s not quite THAT easy, but I will control it from a legal standpoint. The trouble will be keeping the investors. We’ll lose some. My dad had a number of personal relationships, but I won’t change any fund managers or analysts or traders. Business as usual. The tricky part will be avoiding the SEC investigation that is certain to follow. When someone like my dad is arrested, for anything, everyone suddenly gets suspicious. A press release will go out in the next two hours saying that the board will meet and ensure continuity of management.”

“Damn,” I said. “Start at the beginning.”

“Are you sure you want to hear the whole story?”

“Am I going to be happy at the end of this story?” I asked.

“I think so. It started when I found my dad’s videotapes. You remember I told you about them?”

“Yes.”

“Well, he had no way of knowing I knew they even existed. Les knew about the tapes, but he was loyal to my dad so he’d never talk. And he got some attention, if you know what I mean.”

“I get it,” I said. “Just tell the story.”

“I knew my dad had been fooling around with my friends, and other girls, for a long time. He always used the same guest bedroom with them, and one day, when I was fifteen, when he and my mom were in Boca, I started snooping. I found a VCR in the closet, and that led me to find a camera hidden behind a mirror. I didn’t find any tapes, but I was sure he’d made some. Why else have that setup?

“I went to my dad’s study and looked everywhere but couldn’t find anything. Then I remembered he had a safe in the basement, encased in the concrete foundation. That’s where he kept Mom’s really expensive jewelry, some gold and silver, and some important documents. I didn’t know the combination, but it didn’t take too long to figure it out.”

“His anniversary or birthday?”

“My birthday. I got it on the seventh or eighth try. There were no tapes in the safe, but I found a strange key. You know, one of those old ones with the long rod and the teeth, not like the modern ones. I had no idea what it went to, but I started hunting in the basement. I didn’t find anything, so I went up to his study. It took me two days to find the keyhole in the back panel of one of the bookshelves. When I turned the key, the bookshelf could be swung out. Behind it was a closet. I opened the closet and there were at least a hundred videotapes, probably more.

“All of the tapes had dates and girl’s names. A small number of them had two names on them. I picked two of them, one with just one name, and one with two, and took them to the TV room in the basement. I told you I watched them and kind of got sick to my stomach. It was gross seeing my dad fuck my friends, but I couldn’t turn them off. When I finished watching them, I put everything back. I wasn’t sure what to do, and I didn’t tell anyone.

“When I turned sixteen, my dad told me about the succession plan and how it would work. It was clear he wanted me to marry so he could pass the company on to a guy, and ultimately to a grandson. I was pissed because I felt I could run the company and didn’t need some guy to run it for me. I realized my dad’s attitude towards girls - that they were playthings - applied even to me. So I started to hatch a plan.

“I needed a couple of things. Someone who could guide and mentor me, but who wasn’t part of my dad’s circle. Someone who would tell the police what happened. And someone who could help me navigate the legal issues. You were the guide and mentor. I confess that I picked you and pursued you with that in mind from the very beginning. That was the actual business proposition you agreed to in exchange for my virginity. You just didn’t know it.”

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

The Proposition

THE PROPOSITION My divorce was painful. My wife Sharon had finally had all she could take of my constant begging to let me have more free space to engage in my chronic desire to cross dress. Even as far back as childhood I was always interested in hair and makeup. I would cut out pictures from magazines and add them to my special secret collection. It was easy to hide it from my parents among all my books and magazines about science and art. I easily made it through technical college...

The Proposition

The wind blew in off the lake, clean and crisp, a gentle breeze cutting through the coming heat of the day. I had forgotten that the summer could be anything other than a wet blanket of humid air wrapped stiflingly around your head. When I left Washington, it was already hot and muggy. There should be a law against temperatures above 80 before breakfast. Landing in Toronto was like landing on a different planet, one where the temperature was not only considerably cooler but where the humidity...

The PropositionPart 2 Introducing Dominique and Alex The Proposition

6 months earlier. Dominique and Alex's paths crossed in march of 2009 at the Paramount hotel near times square, NYC. Alex was what you might call "ultra-wealthy." His first job out of Princeton was as a highly paid technology researcher at Goldman Sachs. He was a brilliant investor who became exorbitantly rich during the Internet bubble of the late 90s and then compounded his riches following the lead of his Goldman buddies betting against the financial sector during the stock market...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 11 Business and Pleasure

May 6, 1986, Los Angeles, California When Julia and I walked off the plane at LAX, it was the first time I’d been in Los Angeles since 1972, when my parents had moved our family to Tucson, Arizona, where we stayed less than a year before moving to Ohio. As we were only staying a single night, neither Julia nor I had checked a bag, which allowed us to walk straight out of the terminal and get in line for a taxi into the city. Just under an hour later, we got out of the taxi and walked into...

Nedras Naughty Proposition

Introduction: A sizzling hot proposition from my naughty fuck buddy Nedra and I are both 55 and were fuck buddies. Or, as she refers to our relationship: non-exclusive fuck buddies. I sometimes quiz her as to why she insists on refering to our relationship as non-exclusive fuck buddies. She usually replies, in baby talk, with something like, So it would be allowed for me to have someone get those hard to reach places, silly boy. Once, however, in the throes of pillow talk, with her eyes glazed...

March 30, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “What time will you be home?” I asked Jessica at 4:00am as we finished breakfast. “Well, I was assigned to a service that does scheduled surgeries and procedures, so unless something goes wrong, I’ll be home by 6:00pm. It’s quite a drive up to Northwestern and back.” “There should be almost no traffic now, but coming home will be during Rush Hour.” “After the first few days we’ll know better, then.” Jessica finished her juice, and I walked her out to her...

The Proposition

Making the Deal I have been rather successful in life thus far. Shortly after graduating from high school, I had started an internet dating site as a hobby. For some reason that little hobby turned into a very lucrative business. Though I struggled to make ends meet the first year my site was in business, it took off like a rocket after that. Over the next few years, my hobby provided me with a very comfortable living. About five years ago, a major internet player made me an...

Demon GateChapter 7 Proposition

Higa emerged from the woods at the edge of the campsite, a freshly killed doe hanging limply across her broad shoulder. She set the carcass down beside the tanning rack, then planted her massive cudgel in the ground, leaning on it as she wiped the sweat from her brow. “That’s three today,” she announced, looking over to where Satou was preparing a stew beside the fire pit. “I swear, they’re so loud and careless when they’re horny.” “Just like you,” Satou replied. She marched over to him and...

She returned home from the party on Monday. She was very confused, so she called Kim to come over. “Are you all right?” “Yes, I am.” “He sold me to some black brothers for the next weekend. They loved to fuck me, the younger brother had a big cock, 10 inches long and 3 1/2 inches thick. He loved to fuck my pussy and ass but I could not take it to suck it. His and Hers Tits Temptation and Proposition

Canada is a progressive and liberal country. Toronto is its largest city and an incredible place to find state-of-the-art hybrid sexual beauty. Let's talk tits, for example. Young girls with cunts get new and enhanced tits every day. Now it's wonderful to see young girls with cocks get the same high-tech sensual vision. First let me tell you that the old phrase, "the best of both worlds," is much too trite to describe the modern TS from TO. These women ARE women. That they have pretty cocks...

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

July-August, 1985, Chicago, Illinois My drive back to Chicago on Tuesday morning was long but otherwise uneventful. I’d said goodbye to Stephie, and after a good breakfast, left her house at 5:00am. I made up an hour due to the time change, so I was back in Chicago just after 4:30pm. A BUSINESS PROPOSITION

Her interest in me had been apparent – quite frankly, almost blatant – at our initial meeting, and Ms Brewster had smiled with the feline satisfaction of a cat who sees the bowl of cream about to be poured when I had suggested that the next stage of negotiations might best be conducted as a ‘confidential one-to-one meeting’ between her and myself, ‘quite privately’ and at a time of her convenience – if she preferred, as I was sure she was very busy, after the end of the normal working day,...

Once, however, in the throes of pillow talk, with her eyes glazed over, she actually said, "There is someone who knows what I'd do to be stuffed more than full with cock." Somehow, I just knew better than to probe too agressively on that topic. Hey, I'm a guy who certainly has no allusions of ever being in the record book in the size department. That's based on what I'm seeing on this site. Any guy would consider Nedra a babe. She has a very pretty, sun bronzed face and a perfect...

June 1981, Milford, Ohio As expected, Sandy didn’t join us for swimming. Most of the girls had on one-piece bathing suits, though Mary had on her skimpy bikini. I thought Jake and Bill were going to drown given how wide open their mouths were when they saw her. My little sister didn’t wear hers because if it somehow got back to Dad, she’d get grief about it. Dad wasn’t home, of course, because he had taken my mom out for the day as I had asked. Even so, Stephanie wasn’t going to risk...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 64 Pull the Other One

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 59 New Friends

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 20 It Happened One Night

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. Our flight back on Thursday leaves LA at 11:00am, so we’ll be home by 8:00pm, I...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 32 Still Together

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 41 Business and Pleasure

November 24, 1990, Chicago, Illinois “It’s very good to see you, Bethany. I’m sorry about your loss.” “Thank you, Doctor Barton,” Bethany replied. “It’s good to see you as well!” “And this must be Nicholas!” Doctor Barton said with a big smile. Bethany handed Nicholas to Doctor Barton. Nicholas fussed a bit, but calmed down quickly. “Bethany, I’d like you to meet my wife Belinda, and my children Fawn and Gerry. Everyone, this is Bethany. I’ve told you all about her.” “Welcome!” Belinda...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 79 The Last Risk Of Freeze

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

The Three Signs Book 2 LoriChapter 28 Live at the Lifesaver

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 35 An Interview and Some New Friends

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

The Proposition

It was six-thirty when I finally got home from work on Friday night. Walking through the kitchen into the living room, I saw Danielle’s two children, Elizabeth and Steven (or Lizy and Steve as I called them), sitting in front of the television, watching an Indiana Jones video. ?Is your mom upstairs?? I asked. Lizy nodded her head and said: ?She’s getting ready for her trip.? ?Her trip?? I said, wondering if I’d heard correctly. ?Mom said that she had to fly to California this weekend for...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. Loosening Up Book 2 CohousingChapter 8 Promotions and Propositions

A few days later at Dori and Ty’s house, Dave got tapped on the shoulder. He turned around, “Are you still avoiding me?” Rachel asked in a pleasant tone. Dave counted back the weeks on two hands right in front of her. “Hmmmm. It’s been twelve weeks. You tell me how you’re feeling and let me think about it.” Rachel crossed her arms and then looked peeved, “I’m feeling a bit like a pariah with you, and that makes me sad. A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...
