School was back in session and the basketball season had started. It looked to Don that his team would do well in conference play. In the pre-season games they had lost only one game and it was one in Don’s opinion they should have won if they had played better defense.
The first game in conference play was against Jefferson High School which he thought would give a good indication of how they would do in conference play. Don congratulated the team on its victory and told the team he was proud of them. He said this is the start of what will be a good season and he will see them at practice Monday. “What brings you to the game? Anyone you know on the team?”
“No, it’s just that Lynn used to talk how much she enjoyed going to the games and at the wedding when she said you were the coach I had to come and see for myself. I can see why she enjoyed coming here as this was an exciting game. I was routing for your team to win.”
“Any reason your husband didn’t come with you?”
“This is his weekend to play Weekend Warrior. He is a Lt Col in the Army Reserve and on the promotion list for full Colonel. His goal is to become a General and in time he probably will be one. He leaves late on Friday and comes back late Sunday. He does this once a month and of course he has the two weeks of summer camp.”
“Normally after a game I go and get something to eat and have an adult beverage. Could I interest you in doing that and keeping me company?”
“Sure, it’s better than going home and watching late night TV. Those show hosts are enamored with themselves and they are not that funny.”
Don gave Tracy directions on where to go which he said was a little out of the way but it would give them some privacy. On his drive there he thought about her coming to game. She certainly was attractive and while he had an attraction to her, he wondered if she had an attraction to him. That she was married was an obvious concern but he would let her call the shots as to what if anything would happen between them.
Entering this out of the way pizza place with Tracy Don asked to be seated in a back booth. After placing the order for a medium pizza and a pitcher of sangria they had a nice conversation. “He probably would if he knew about me doing that but if he doesn’t know he can’t object. Are you asking me out?”
“I am just asking you to have dinner with me an avoid having a boring Saturday evening.”
Tracy reached into her purse and took out a business card and wrote on the back of the card her home address. She handed the card to Don.
“Come by at five thirty and I will be ready to go.”
The no hesitancy on her part to go to dinner told him that she was what he would classify has “a possible.”
