From there, the land runs across the County Line into Stewart County. There’s a total of sixteen hundred acres in all, and I also had Lois write up the deeds on those properties. I left her a map of the land and you can go have a look at it before you decide, if you like. I personally think you’ll like this one. There’s a hundred acres in pasture, with a huge barn - and there are eighteen Registered Saddlebred horses on it too. There’s also a levee grazing lease covering ten miles, that joins with Miss Early’s levee lease, and you know her lease joins your levee lease on the Donavan land.
“Now then - I called the clerks in Stewart County and asked them to pull any records on Jason and they called back late yesterday to tell me about the land I just described - and also, an island in the middle of the Mississippi that Jason bought from the state. “They should be here within a week or so. I’ll call and find out. I need to find out how many acres we’ll have that need the stalks cut, and have some new stalk-cutters brought out too. We may even need more tractors now.”
“Is that the farm house, barn, and pasture up there - you were talking about?”
I looked up from my map to see a house and a red barn, with fenced pasture as far as I could see.
“That’s it. The place sure looks good from here, doesn’t it? I wonder who worked this land for Jason. He sure didn’t strike me as being a farmer.”
