March 13, 1990, Chicago, Illinois

“It’s hard to believe that you’re 23, Squirt!” I said as we relaxed with our coffee after dinner.

“You’re going to be 27! And you have five-and-a-half kids!”

“More like five-and-two-thirds!” Kara giggled. “I’m due in late June or early July!”

“And Sofia is due not long before you!” Elyse said. “And Jamie and Jackie had Eric back in January. And Nicky was born in December! Babies are busting out all over!”

“Just wait,” I chuckled. “Cindi is going to get pregnant fairly soon.”

“And me next year, most likely!” Jessica said. “I just need to time it so that it’s after my surgical rotation completes so I’m back in the ER.”

“Veronica, are you planning on kids right away?” Kara asked.

“Not right away, but not too long. Jack wants two, and I think that’s a nice number. But we don’t want to be parents to teenagers in our fifties.”

“My dad was a parent to a teenager when he was almost 70!” Stephanie added.

“No thanks!” Veronica exclaimed. “Is your mom his second wife?”

I smiled, “No, he married a girl twenty years younger than he was. It mostly had to do with his time in the Navy during World War II, and then the OSS, and then the CIA. He didn’t marry until he left the Agency.”

“Wow, he must have some amazing stories!”

“He does. I only wish he’d tell me! He’s said that he will some day, but he hasn’t yet. Even with him here, I haven’t been able to get him to open up. He has talked to Karl and the other Navy guys, but I’m not in that fraternity.”

“Those guys are thick as thieves,” Veronica noticed. “It seems like they go everywhere in a pack.”

“It’s a gang,” I chuckled. “Complete with gang clothing and gang signs. It just happens to be one run by the government, so it’s legal!”

“You do NOT believe that!” Jessica laughed.

“I do and I don’t,” I said. “The police are a gang, too. The only difference is that the people voted to authorize them to form their gang. Remember what Capone said? He was a businessman who was providing goods and services that the good citizens of Chicago wanted, and which were denied them by their government.”

“Back to the taxation is theft idea again?” Kurt asked.

“It is, at its core, theft. Remember my principle - if it’s immoral for me to do it, it’s just as immoral for me to vote for people to do it. It’s why I object to the death penalty, among other things.”

“I think this calls for a sauna,” Kathy said. “Otherwise we’re going to have to listen to ‘Ron Paul Jr.’ here pontificate all night!”

“YOU voted for him!” I chuckled. “As did most people in this room! Well, not Abbie, because she doesn’t vote. And Veronica is like Pete - a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. But she’s from Chicago, so that’s no surprise! And Pete was a ‘Reagan Democrat’, though he voted for Dukakis over Bush.”

“Anyone is better than Bush,” Veronica said. “Jesse would be better! Even as king!”

“Yes! King Jesse!” he giggled.

“God help us all if THAT ever happened!” Jennifer laughed. “Can you imagine?”

“Everyone has to do what I say!” Jesse proclaimed. “King Jesse!”

“Yes, but you do what Birgit tells you to do,” I said.

“Not if I was king!” he protested.

“Son, I wouldn’t count on that at all!” I said with a sigh.

The girls all laughed and Kurt nodded in agreement. We finished our coffee and headed down to the sauna to finish out the evening. When we were done, I walked Stephanie back to her dorm.

“No date tonight?” I asked.

“No, I just wanted to be with family. If Ed were here, I’d have invited him, but he took me out for a nice dinner when you were out with Bethany.”

“As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.”

“I am big brother, because you love me.”

I pulled her into my arms and hugged her, “Me too, Squirt. Me too.”

March 15, 1990, Chicago, Illinois

“Gorbachev is now the President of the Soviet Union,” I said. “And his first act is to declare that Lithuania’s declaration of independence is invalid? Not an auspicious start.”

“I’d bet they break away and he doesn’t stop them,” Elyse replied. “At least based on everything I’ve seen and our talks about it.”

“I think so, too. Mass rallies with upwards of 300,000 people can’t really be ignored. Look what happened in East Germany. And I’d say that Soviet troops leaving Hungary, with a promise to be out by the end of May is a pretty clear indication of where this is going. It’s a bit dicier for the Baltic states because they were traditionally under Russia’s rule at various points, but in the end, they’ll leave.”

“And almost nobody has died,” Abbie said. “That I find amazing.”

“Quite a few died since 1917, though,” I said. “Communism has killed more people than any other ‘ism’ you care to name. It’s a religion that brooks no other god before it, and kills or imprisons its heretics.”

“That’s a weird thing to say about people who proclaim to be atheists.”

“Their god is just different,” I said. “But he’s a damned jealous god. Worse than the Christian one at this point. At least for the most part, Christians aren’t killing heretics, and there’s very little Christian-on-Christian persecution.”

“No, they just try to impose their beliefs on everyone else,” Abbie said.

“Some do. And even some of them change,” I smiled.

“Speaking of which, do you have a bit of time to talk?”

I looked to Jessica and Kara, who both nodded.

“Sure,” I said. “My study? The ‘Indian’ room?”

“Or is it the other kind of ‘talk’?” Kara giggled.

“The ‘Indian’ room will be fine!” Abbie laughed. “You CAN have sex other places than in bed, Kara!”

“Oooh, I know that!” Kara giggled. “But I think Stephie holds the record.”

“Record?” Abbie asked.

“Of being the only one to have sex with Steve in every single room in the house, plus the shed, plus the back yard, and allegedly, on the front porch swing!”

“There’s no allegedly about it,” I chuckled. “2:00am, under a blanket, with me behind her and her sitting on me, facing forward. It was kind of awkward, but it worked!”

“Unfortunately, she was the first on the pool table!” Kara smirked.

“Kara!” I said, trying to reprimand her, but laughing instead.

“Oh, please! You had fun making that videotape with me!” she smirked.

“What?” Katy gasped.

“Hmm, maybe I misjudged you a bit,” Abbie giggled.

“Me? Or HER?” I said, laughing.

“You!” Abbie said, still laughing. “Not her. I heard about greeting the pizza guy au naturel! Not to mention that little display the other morning at breakfast! You actually made a porn tape? You?”

“Yes,” I sighed. “I actually made a porn tape.”

“You know, I always wanted to try my hand at writing or directing porn...” Abbie giggled.

“I’m liking where this is going,” Katy giggled. “Would Steve star in this movie?”

“Well of course!” Abbie said. “I mean, he’s not hung like John Holmes, but he’s quite useful!”

“Useful?” I said, feigning outrage.

“Tiger, I told you that John Holmes was so well-endowed that he couldn’t get a proper erection. There is such a thing as too big, though no GUY would ever admit it!”

“Melanie did him a huge favor when she told him he was slightly above average,” Elyse said. “He’s never worried about it since.”

“I’ve had no complaints,” I chuckled.

“I have some ideas,” Abbie smirked. “But for the moment I need to talk to Steve.”

I left my laughing wives and housemates and followed Abbie into the ‘Indian’ room. She asked me to light the candles and incense, and lower the lights, which I did. We then sat side-by-side in two of the basket chairs.

“What’s up?”

“You’ve been acting differently since Sunday night two weeks ago.”

“Have I?” I asked. “I mean that seriously.”

“Well, at least toward me. You’re acting more like, well, a big brother, I guess. Or maybe even a dad, though I didn’t have a big brother and I didn’t have a good relationship with my dad.”

“And that bothers you?”

“I’m not sure. It confuses me is probably the best way to say it.”

“I guess I don’t feel that I’ve been treating you differently or acting differently. And last weekend was pretty intense for me with Doctor Mercer and Bethany.”

“Are you sleeping with her?”

“Doctor Mercer? No way!” I smirked.

“I meant Bethany, you nut!” Abbie said, laughing.

“Not the way you mean. Bethany and I have a very, very long history and I’ve told you quite a bit about it. Right now, and in my opinion forever, what she needs from me is a solid friend that she can depend on. And because of our history, and because of what happened to her, that precludes sex in any way, shape or form. In fact, since she’s been married, there have only been chaste kisses on the cheek, so far as I remember. Why?”

“I thought that might be what was going on. I guess not.”

“I wonder if you’re trying to see me as the same guy who was in Albany. I’m not that guy anymore. And I suppose last weekend kind of put a stake in the old me.”

“The old you? So that thing with Becka was your last wild fling?”

That was very similar to the question Bethany had asked me. And the honest answer, now having had ten days to think about it, was that I didn’t know.

“I don’t know. Maybe.”

“Do you regret doing it?”

I shook my head slowly, “No. But to be honest, it wasn’t my style. It made me very uncomfortable. But I think that was your plan all along.”

“Part of it was to push you past your comfort zone. Part of it was to show you my wild side, and part of was to get off!”

“And Becka was a target of opportunity?”

“You won’t believe me if I tell you,” she said.

“Try me. I’ve pretty much heard it all.”

“You do remember what you said to me after the Halloween dance? And what I said?”

“Yes, that you shouldn’t mess with her, and you said you wouldn’t need to.”

“The next time I saw her, she approached me and asked what she would need to do for that to happen. I made her actually say it. She said she wanted, and I quote, ‘your cock in her pussy’. And if it meant putting her tongue in my pussy, she’d do it. And enjoy doing it.”

“You’re joking!”

“No. I told you that she wanted it and just didn’t know it. I articulated it for her. Then her mind went exactly where it was waiting to go. It just needed a nudge.”

“And the other stuff?”

“She was very curious, so I just described everything. And I might have done it in a way that got her juices flowing!”

“You’re a bad girl, Abbie Nolan!”

“Are you worried about Becka?”

“Yes, somewhat, even with what you just told me.”

“And if I told you she begged me to ask you for another round, where we tag-teamed her into unconsciousness with no limits or restrictions on what we did to her?”

“I’m not sure I’d believe you,” I said.

“She did. But I told her ‘no’ because I knew you were uncomfortable with the whole idea. I mean, I didn’t tell her why, just that we’d agreed it was once only. Well, with you.”

“Henry?” I chuckled.

“Possibly, yes, though I was thinking maybe taking her to see Rhonda!”

“Seriously? You think that’s a good idea?”

“Becka wants to explore. I can’t think of a better way than Rhonda, her boyfriend, and another guy. All doing Becka.”

“Are you sure that’s wise?” I asked.

“I’ll tell her about it first. She can make up her own mind. That is what you tell people to do, isn’t it?”

“It is, but this seems a bit extreme.”

“I’ll tell you something else, but you have to keep this private. Becka had another option.”

“Don’t tell me who,” I said. “It’s really none of my business. Can we come back to you and me?”

“Sure,” Abbie said. “Is there an issue?”

“I don’t think so,” I said. “Though there was a stray thought that you might be ready to move on to a different type of relationship.”

“That would explain it. You thought I might want to stop sleeping with you so you simply began subconsciously treating me like a sister, or whatever.”

Not like any sister I had. At least not in the past. Now? Perhaps so.

“Maybe so,” I said. “I guess, beyond living here, and beyond being our nanny, what do you want?”

“Not kids. Not marriage. That I’m very sure of. I’d have had my tubes tied if I could have, but they wouldn’t do it on a fifteen-year-old.”

“Medical ethics would prevent that, I believe,” I said. “Jessica has talked to me about ethical issues for any woman who is under 35 or so, and with guys having vasectomies, under 40 or so. They’ll do it, but you have to convince them you REALLY want it because it is, for all intents and purposes, irreversible. So I can’t even imagine them agreeing to do it for a girl of fifteen. So, what then?”

“To be as happy as possible. To do things that make me happy and make me feel good. Living here does both. Sex does both. Sex with you sort of hits the pinnacle of perfection. Well, making love, I guess. Nobody has ever done that with me but you.”

“You do know that YOU can make love to a guy, right?”

“I wouldn’t have the first clue how. You know how aggressive and wild I am!”

I nodded, “Yes, I do. But take your cues from what I’ve done for you. Try THAT on someone.”

“I’m not sure the guys I know would like it. They’re just as aggressive.”

“There are other fish in the sea. Not all dorks are dorks, as I think you’ve found out!”

“Oh, you’re still a dork in many ways,” Abbie said with a smile. “But you’re right. I suppose I just have to fish with the right bait.”

“Right bait?”

“Did you see how many guys hit on me at the Halloween party?” she smirked.

“Yes, but I’m not sure that’s you.”

“Actually, that was me. When Aidan fucked me the first time, it was in my Freshman cheerleader outfit; I still had the skirt on when we finished! I had blonde hair just like that, or very close. I suspect I was a lot like your friends Kathy and Bethany who used to be cheerleaders. Henry’s outfit was what he was like when he was younger. And you’ve seen Trish, of course.”

“So you’re thinking of going back? Being a dork?” I chuckled.

“I’m thinking of letting more people see me as me. Minus the makeup. At least inside the house.”

“Matthew will be devastated,” I said.

“Oh, I won’t stop completely! No way! And I’ll talk to him about it first. Do you think Elyse would let me take him to McDonald’s or Wendy’s made up so we could talk?”

“I’m sure she would. You’re going to be his nanny in three months or so!”

“Cool. Can I ask you one more thing before I let you go back to your wives?”

“Sure.”

“If I did write a script, and came up with something that was fun and had a bit of a plot, would you be in the movie?”

“An actual porn movie?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“I’m not sure I could do that and let anyone else have a copy of the tape. The one we do have is locked up tight, and under Kara’s control. And it really is just one scene with one camera on a tripod.”

“Which scene?”

“The pool table from Insatiable,” I said.

“That’s a good one! The guy isn’t ridiculously big, though the dialog is pretty dumb. And what’s with slapping her clit with his dick?”

Gwen and Abbie

It was after the miscarriage that things started to go amiss. It was a hugely emotional time for Gwen and I felt so sorry for her. After that, things changed, subtly but quite drastically. We'd had a good, if limited, social life. Like most couples, one person's friends tended to dominate. I had gradually lost touch with most of my friends and relatives and Gwen's friends had become mine, too. Being a theatre sister at the local private hospital, most of Gwen's friends were in the...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 75 Callie

November, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The last days of November went by quickly. I didn’t say anything to anyone about the meeting; only Bethany knew that Scott had called me. Kara and Sofia both joined me for karate on Monday night, though they were in a beginner’s class taught by one of the two black belts who studied under Sensei Jim. I found Jorge after my accounting class and he was pretty resolute that he was happy being with George and that Cindi had been fun, but he knew it couldn’t...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 51 Fallout and SelfDiscovery

May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! You’re sixteen and not even related to...

June 1981, Milford, Ohio “Stephanie!” I growled when she came out of her room for swimming. “What?” “Get in here! Now!” I said firmly. She walked into my room and I shut the door. “When did you call her, Squirt?” “Call who?” she said, trying, but failing, to act innocent. “Stephanie, what got Jennifer in trouble? What was my problem with Becky?” She visibly deflated, “Yesterday. But I had to! I had to! You were going to get engaged to Kara!” “I was NOT going to get engaged to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 12 House Calls

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

February, 1985, Chicago, Illinois As the Twin Beech took me back to Meigs Field, I thought about everything that Bethany and I had talked about, and about my conversations with Elyse and Alice, as well as what had happened with Katy. After we landed, I let Patrick know that I wouldn’t be making the flight for the next two weeks, and that Bethany would let him know what the plans were after that. “Her dad called me already. When she’s ready to come to Chicago. I’ll fly her up. Her dad will...

October/November, 1980, Milford, Ohio I didn’t know for sure what to expect when I walked into chemistry class on Wednesday. I had tossed and turned in bed and hadn’t slept well because I couldn’t get the situation with Kara out of my head. It was going to be a mess, no matter what happened. That was the only thing I was sure of. “Hi, Steve,” Kara said quietly. “Hi, Kara,” I answered, not looking her in the eye. “What’s wrong?” “I told you last night what was wrong and what would...

March 1978 I dreaded going to school. I thought about staying home sick. I rarely did that and if I told Mom and Dad I was sick, they wouldn’t doubt me. I had missed exactly one day of school in the past three years. Unfortunately, that would only postpone the inevitable. I didn’t have any classes with Jennifer, but we did have lunch together as we had all year. I could only wait to see what happened. I saw several of the gang in the hallway or class, but nobody said anything or even gave...

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

A Bronze Bookmark Halloween

A Bronze Bookmark Halloween An "Odues' Oddities" Story by TGTrinity The wind was picking up, and Sam secured his scarf tightly around his neck. The city streets were empty, save for some stragglers who were drunkenly trying to find their way to another party. There was a commotion in the distance, and Sam figured it was some kids egging a house, a drunken brawl moving from a party into the neighborhood streets or a father chasing a guy out of his daughters bedroom. On Halloween...

October, 1984, Chicago, Illinois October flew by. Between school, work, programming for the unions, and time with my friends, days vanished like fog under a bright sun. Wen had continued getting one kiss each Saturday, but nothing more, and she’d gone home after studying. The twins, for all the teasing and banter, hadn’t done anything except serve lunch when I’d visited them on Sundays. Things with everyone else continued as they had. Anala had gone on a few dates with Prajesh, the guy who...

October, 1984, Chicago, Illinois Bethany was right - I did have some very surprising things happen in my life. And they never seemed to stop. On the other hand, Fate seemed to have taken a holiday and I was just fine with that. If she never came back, I’d be a very happy man. And given how things were going, I was pretty happy overall. Chapter Seven: The Crystalline Dildo Princess Ava – Az, Princedom of Kivoneth, The Strifelands of Zeutch I gasped in shock at the Valyan acolyte kneeling before me. Why did she call me “Masterwork Craft”? What an absolutely unflattering thing to call me. Why not your highness? Or my lady? Or even your beatific? Masterwork...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

Gallaghers IslandChapter 4 Gallagher Meets the Female HeadHunters

After they had the huts finished, the water supply taken care of and even finding they had plenty of food with the coconuts and the bananas, the fishing was good and Mr. Candleford even managed to trap a wild pig in a pit trap that worked perfectly. The only hard part was to get the carcass out and get it prepared for eating and then to smoke and keep the remaining meat safe for future use. In a sense, it was good that they were there on the island because the things would have started to...

Allen to Allie II Nadine Explains All Almost

Hello "gurls"; Nadine here. I have noticed that some of you have actually read Allie's little introduction to what his life is currently like. The poor dear, his life is so hard now. I noticed he inferred many things in his little essay. Yes, of course I read what he wrote as he wrote it, since he is naturally no longer permitted un-supervised use of the computer. I allowed him to post it as is because I was curious to see what kind of reaction his tragic little story would engender. I...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 59 New Friends

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

September 5, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Interesting,” I said aloud as I was reading the Chicago Tribune while cuddling Birgit. “What, Daddy?” “My friend Bill Elliott is going to start his own racing team with McDonald’s as the sponsor.” “Sponsor?” “They pay money to paint the car red and yellow, and have the McDonalds sign on the hood.” “I like pink cars!” I chuckled, “I know you do, Pumpkin. Are your school friends coming today?” “Yes. Tiffany, Rachel, and Joey.” “Good. Shall we make...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 71 All Hallows Eve

October, 1983, Chicago, Illinois On Saturday, I was happy to see that Jorge showed up to study group and spent some time with Stephie on his calculus. She asked him to stay for the party, but he declined. I felt that him showing up for study group was a good sign and that over time we’d be able to ease him into the group. It was a matter of convincing him that we liked him and wanted him to be around because he was an interesting guy who we wanted to hang out with. I only spent about an...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

March 4, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “Thanks for calling back,” I said when Keri put Dante’s call through to my phone. “Is there a problem with the project?” he asked. “From a technical standpoint, everything is fine. I’ll be blunt, because that’s how we deal with each other. I need you to stop hitting on my female staff members. And I need you to stop right now.” “Who complained?” “Does it matter? It’s not the first time. I’ve heard it from more than one of my female staff members over the...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

KittyChapter 5 Sally McCall

It had not been my intention to see Janet and Berry off. I didn't think I could bear to see them leave. But as the hour of their departure approached, Ruth must have seen me keeping an eye on the clock. At first, I declined her offer to let me take a few minutes off. I argued that it was the middle of our rush hour. She whispered something to Ben, and he ordered me to get out of his kitchen, adding that he was concerned that in my present state of mind, I was an accident waiting to...

October 26, 1987, Chicago, Illinois The call I was expecting came just before 3:00pm on Monday afternoon. “You’re killing me!” Dante Puccini screamed into the phone. “Dante, could you please not scream into the phone,” I said, trying to sound as calm as I possibly could. “Hey, if somebody tried to stick it up your ass you’d scream!” I suppressed a chuckle. Elyse HAD done that, and a whole lot more, and I hadn’t screamed. “Dante, you asked us to solve a problem that every single vendor...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. “So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...
