"You are welcome Denac," I said, and then I got to work.
I had the poles trimmed to length and then up, with the help of Shaton and Matatu again, in what seemed no time. They had come over not long after I got there. It was a little embarrassing that Denac kept bragging on me the whole time, but I didn't say a thing about it.
I was done a little later and had even finished lashing the spreaders in place. Shaton and Matatu had left and Denac and I just talked a little, mostly about nothing until lunch rolled around.
Shaeta came to bring us something to eat and I noticed right away that Katia was not with her. I didn't mention it though and finally decided it was for the best after all. We had a pleasant lunch and Shaeta left with the bowls.
The tarping crew arrived not much later. I called them that to myself because what they were doing was about like putting a tarp on something and tying it down. I lifted a few of them in place and they must have been tired of this game already because they had it over with in short order.
Denac thanked them profusely as they left.
"Now, what would you like inside first, Denac," I asked.
"Do you have time to spare to help me move my things inside?" he asked, as if he couldn't believe I would.
"No, but I have time to spare to do it with you telling me what to do. I do not want you to set back the progress you have made already, and I know as well as you do that your balance isn't what it needs to be yet," I said.
"You are right, but how do you know it?" he asked.
"I have been in a fight that I didn't win before," I said, and I was glad to see that it made him laugh.
"I don't know how anyone was able to best you," he said.
"That's how I learned to fight so well. You learn much more from the fights you lose than the ones you win," I said, and that finally got him to stop talking and start thinking.
Moving his things into the hut didn't end up being much of a problem. It wasn't that he didn't have much, it was because his stuff was mostly all the same.
He had furs, spears, skins, and some tools. With no woman he hadn't collected things for cooking, cleaning, and other tasks that the women took care of. He had a lot, it just wasn't a lot of little things.
He tried to thank me to death as I left, but I wouldn't let him.
