The Mission
... Both were tempted to use their suits’ drive units, but they knew that would alert the Throme if anything would. Scrambling down, they were soon in the water. A hundred meters out, they saw a glint of movement coming toward them just under the surface. “Let’s go home,” Arlene said to her partner.
As soon as the hatch closed and even before they were out of the airlock, the AI had them moving away from land.
“Oh, I so want to get out of this suit,” Arlene grumped a few minutes later as she and her partner settled into their seats.
“Me too,” Ann replied as she fervently wished she could scratch the itch in the middle of her back. But both young women knew that even their faceplates should remain sealed until they were back on the carrier since they could be immersed in a dogfight in a second. Fully stealthed, they turned the nose of their craft toward space.
The Throme, however, weren’t interested in anything leaving the planet, but rather what was coming toward it, for two giant blips had appeared on the interceptor’s screens. Before the two pilots could even tense up, the blips were identified by their AI as friendlies.
Moments later, the AI received orders from one of the giants’ AI and veered to a new heading. Suddenly, torrents of energy pulsed from the big ships’ guns. While they watched the display, another blip appeared. It, too, was big, but not in the same category as the giant capital ships. But the small carrier meant safety and eventually a ride to home base for the two.
As Arlene allowed their AI to bring them into the carrier, “Why in the crap did they send three teams down to destroy the power stations if they were going to bombard the planet anyway?” she groused. Then to herself, Oh, well, they never bother to tell fighter jocks what’s going on, but as long as we get our shore leave, I really don’t care.
The bombardment lasted only two hours before troop carriers moved in with their accompanying support vessels. Someone else would take up the fighting. These two had two weeks of shore leave that they were really, really looking forward to.
The Ship
Reality popped into existence for the three lying on the couches in the training area. As always, it took a couple of seconds for the returning person’s mind to adjust to the new situation. As a grin spread across the Prime’s face, both Arlene and Ann frowned, then when they saw him, both sat up quickly.
“Daddy?” Arlene exclaimed.
“Jeff,” Ann got out, just as stunned.
Then, as one, “What are you doing here?”
But neither girl was a mental slouch. “You were with us, weren’t you?” Arlene accused just as Ann said the same thing, only with slightly different wording, but both had an air of accusation accompanying their questions.
“Well, I, uh ... just meant to check up on you to see how you were doing, but I guess I got sucked into the scenario.”
“So, you were there the whole time?” Ann asked.
“Well, most of it, I suppose. And by the way, I’m damn proud of you two.”
Arlene turned fully to her father/husband. For some reason, both young women were a bit miffed that he had been with them. “I didn’t know that you could come along without being part of the mission. So you were...”
“An observer,” Ship supplied.
“And ... for obvious reasons, Ship couldn’t let you know that you had an observer. That wouldn’t make sense, and you would know it was just training.”
“Shit,” Ann mumbled.
“Yeah, my sentiments exactly,” Arlene agreed.
“Oh, come on, Ladies,” Jeff said as he came to his feet. Holding a hand out to help each of the girls up, he continued, “Let’s be reasonable. Whether you’re my wives or not, I’m your commanding officer. I need to know how competent the two of you are, because one of these days not too far in our future, probably, you are going to be doing this for real. It’s going to be my responsibility – with Ship’s assistance, of course – to choose who takes an interceptor into combat. I am not sending anyone that isn’t extremely competent or beyond. I asked Ship to really push you in the dogfights...”
“And...” Arlene said with a grin.
“And we kicked their asses,” Ann supplied.
“And you kicked their asses,” Jeff agreed. “But... we’re only guessing at the alien’s abilities as well as the capabilities of their assault ships. If we’re wrong...”
Ship broke in with, “I – to use one of your terms – fudged a bit in the scenario. I allowed your opponents fifteen g’s instead of the observed ten or less the aliens have used so far.”
“Well, crap,” Arlene said under her breath.
Ann just grinned. “And we still kicked their asses,” she added.
In Jeff’s mind, Ship spoke. Unless the aliens’ assault craft are considerably more efficient than they have displayed while chasing the asteroid targets, Arlene and Ann should be able to easily destroy a single ship in combat, even with their larger crews and multiple weapons. If the alien ships team up efficiently, though...
Then we’ll just have to make sure that doesn’t happen, Jeff returned.
“So are my wives horny?” he teased, knowing that they usually were after a combat mission, training or not.
But before either could answer, Ship spoke up. “Joyce came in to ask when the scenario would be completed. Perhaps you should check with your other wives before you make ... further plans,” she finished, her voice sounding slightly contrite.
Jeff frowned and sent her a mental question, but she only responded with, You should consult with Diana.
Jeff had long since realized that machine intelligence or not, Ship was definitely female, which meant, he didn’t have a clue.
Within moments, the girls were bundled in their coats and heading for the hatch. As the women stepped through, Jeff turned to look back for a second, shrugged and followed his wives.
Outside, they hurried to the Escalade that Arlene and Ann had used. There had been light snow falling while they were involved in the simulation and there was an inch or so of it on the windows. Thankful that it wasn’t frozen over, Jeff wiped enough of it off the windshield so he could see to drive the short distance to the inside garage.
As they went up the stairs and into the Retreat proper, they found Diana and Joyce waiting for them. The deputy grabbed Arlene and Ann, the three hurrying off, their heads already together as Joyce brought her sister-wives up to date.
“What’s going on?” Jeff asked his Clan Queen, drawing out the question as he wondered, What am I in for now?
Diana unconsciously wiped snow off the shoulders of his shirt. Then, with that certain look on her face, she hugged her braless breasts to his chest. “What...” he began as he saw the look, but she cut him off.
“How would you like to get married this afternoon?”
He almost joked that they were already married when he realized she wasn’t referring to a bit of alone time in bed with him. Then it hit him.
“Charlotte and Ada?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Um hmmm,” she said past a grin that was getting bigger by the moment.
Staring down at her, he asked, “So, what brought this on? I asked them to marry me, but they put me off. They didn’t say no, but they just acted scared. I didn’t push them. So, why now and all of a sudden?”
Instead of answering, Diana had a question of her own. “Did you visit with them some time this morning, and I don’t mean at mealtime?”
“Well, sure. I stopped by their suite and made out with them for a few minutes like you have been encouraging me to do.”
“Did they get you excited?”
“Di, where is this going?” When she just waited, he went on, “Of course, they got me excited. I thought about finding you or another of my wives to get some relief, but I wanted to check on Arlene and Ann while they were involved in their mission, so I went out to Ship instead.”
“ ... Leaving a cloud of pheromones in your wake,” his Clan Queen said, extending his comment.

“The marriage is scheduled for sundown, like all the rest have been,” she said, this time allowing a giggle to escape her lips.

“Then you’ll marry them, like you should have done several days ago,” she finished as if he hadn’t said anything, but there was a twinkle in her eyes.

“ ... Great,” Diana said, finishing his sentence again, this time with a chuckle that threatened to become full-blown laughter.
“Baby, there’s already fourteen of you,” he all but whined.
“So? I’m sure the bed is big enough, but if it isn’t we can add another section to it. The same thing for the sheets and comforters. Our bedroom is already monstrous, anyway. We could double the size of the bed and there would still be tons of room left for you to chase us around in.”
“Wedding dresses...” he started, trying for a delay.
“Bought and fitted days ago. I also took the liberty of calling Lieutenant Mayfield. He’s sending a group of volunteers to help set up the living room. The other Alphas and their families have been notified. The cake is baking and should be ready on time. If not, we’ll just delay the wedding until it is. You still have a little over two hours to kill before you need to get ready. Nat, Nicki and Whitney will assist you in dressing. And before you say anything, I’ve gone over what they need to do to keep you straight.”

Grabbing him by his neck, she pulled his face down for an openmouthed kiss, but without tongue. She was already excited enough without that. “Di, are you certain about this?”
“Do you love them?”

“They have sworn that they love you, too, and all of us have known that was true since the day after they came to live with us.”

“The bridal suite is ready and Ada and Charlotte have been enhanced long enough to become accustomed to it – well mostly,” she said with a giggle. “Neither is a virgin, so you don’t have that to contend with. As they walked on down the hallway and turned the first corner, Nat, Nicki and Whitney were standing there waiting. Jeff grabbed Diana to whisper in her ear. “You know that my wives come back horny after they’ve been on one of those training missions. I told Arlene and Ann...”
