Here I still was in my cell at nine AM. I have a crazy rich chick hiding under my bed and I never should have been arrested in the first place. Before ten AM someone cautiously came into the cell with some sort of glop in a plastic cup. They told me to eat it with plenty of water if I was hungry. I still thanked them and took the cup in case I got hungry later.
I wasn’t.
I kept myself from getting really bored by watching for whenever I found the cameras working again. I would pull the power hard to make them blow the fuse or transformer connected to them. Seeing no guards were anywhere close enough that they could get here before the girl got out and then back under the bed I asked her if she was hungry.
“I don’t know what it is, but I don’t want any of it. You are welcome to it. Something is wrong with the cameras or they would have seen you here already. I will go lean on the door to keep them out long enough for you to hide again if they try to get in here,” I told her.
She didn’t come out immediately but her need to pee again hit with a vengeance. She pissed for a long time before grabbing that cup to eat whatever it was in it. I got dressed, got handcuffed and then a cop in the hall said to add leg shackles. I had supposedly damn near killed a big football player at my school yesterday with my bare hands. The guard used the cuffs as a handle to push me around as we went out the other end of the hall. I saw my name was the second on a monitor beside the door. Above me was a Rolinda Shamekwa Shabaz.
What the hell kind of name is that?
When a girl was led through that door in a jumpsuit like mine, all I could really tell about her was that she had dark skin. She could have been tanned or maybe she was on the lighter side of black. The way she was fighting the guard with her I didn’t get a great look.
My name came up and I was shuffled into the courtroom. There was a guy in a cheap suit at one table. I was put at another.
“State versus David Paul Jones,” a lady by the judge said.
“What are the charges,” the judge requested.
“Aggravated Assault and Felony Aggravated Battery,” the cheap suit said. “State asked this defendant be tried as an adult. The victim had multiple bones in his hand broken from the perpetrators violent unprovoked attack.”
Was the judge even going to look up from the bench at me?
“Mr. Jones how do you plead,” the judge asked me.
Let me see if this is worthy of making you look up.
“Confused, your honor,” I replied.
Still not looking up the judge barked out, “This is a serious matter Mr. Jones. Guilty or not guilty.”
“I want to speak to my lawyer,” I told him. “I am sure my lawyer is with my parents in the lobby right now. Well that us unless they got tired of waiting and went to talk to the media about my being in jail right now.”
Ah that made you look.
Once I saw a bit of recognition going on I asked, “Off the record Judge. How is Cecilia? One of my friends said she was really sick yesterday at school and went home early. Can you please tell her I hope she feels better? I don’t think I will be getting out of here anytime soon, otherwise they would have let me meet with my lawyer already instead keeping of locking me in a padded room.”
“Prosecutor, is this some sort of joke? It isn’t April first and I don’t find this one bit funny. After two hours fighting to get through the media circus out front I’m in no mood for any tomfoolery,” he boomed.
Not missing a beat the prosecutor handed the bailiff a stack of papers that were given to the judge.
He then said, “Your honor you can clearly see a warrant for the defendant on the charges presented here today.”
The judge looked them over and he got madder and madder. Finally he got off the bench and walked right to the prosecutor.
“Give me your tablet,” the judge ordered.
The prosecutor handed it over. It only took the Judge took a few seconds to open a page and then handed it back.
“Do you recognize the person in the video,” the judge asked.
Cocky as all get out the prosecutor said, “Yes your honor. That is the defendant. Obviously you have watched this video already, as have I. It clearly shows the defendant slamming the victims hand into the lockers to cause the damages done to the victim’s hand. That was the nature of the felony aggravated battery charge. I don’t see why there is any question.”
To me the judge asked if I was wearing the crappy shorts. When I nodded he asked if I would remove the jumpsuit to my waist.
I am glad I really didn’t bulk up even though my muscles were many times stronger now because of the place in my head.
“Prosecutor allow me to ask you a few questions,” the judge said getting back on the bench. “Do you know where Mr. Jones was from near the end of last school year until just recently? No? I thought not. He was in a coma after an accident occurring at his school during a freak thunderstorm. The one that last year spawned two tornados and was then just gone? Right now I doubt if Mr. Jones could lift the chair beside you five times in a row. He doesn’t even weigh one hundred pounds.”
Interrupting the prosecutor said, “His victim swore under oath that Mr. Jones used some form of Bruce Lee karate move to twist out of the way and slam his fist into the lockers so hard that it caused his hand to make the dent in the lockers instead of impacting the defendant.”
“I take it you went to private schools and had someone hired to sue anyone that said a cross word to you.”
Well obviously he has you there.
The judge then continued by saying, “Are you really going to sit there after spending five years trying multiple cases where defendants assaulted victims and tell me to my face that you haven’t ever seen the self-preservation action displayed here by Mr. Jones? Prosecutor you are never to step foot in my courtroom again or I will find you in contempt of court. Bailiff please escort the prosecutor from the grounds. Have his vehicle towed to the police impound. Once he is off the property, kindly ensure your voice is both loud and clear as you remind him that he is no longer permitted on this property. If he says anything while you are escorting him, you, are free to add that he was ejected because he had the audacity to request this Mr. Jones here be tried as an adult. I am sure it will make the noon news.”
“I hear California is very likely to put up with this sort of incompetence prosecutor,” the judge told him. “Texas would be a good second choice. I hear officially charging someone in Texas is more of a formality in some courts. The defendants are usually already on a slab at the county morgue. If you can stand the heat it wouldn’t even require you put forth any effort to generate a sizable income.”
I really need to sit down after all of this to see if the judge can better teach me how to threaten someone without doing so, especially on the record.
“David, before I can dismiss these charges, I must have you state what happened on the record,” the judge told me. “Off the record, it will go a very long ways in protecting you as well as giving a basis for a large lawsuit against the city, state and your attacker.”
After being sworn in by another bailiff the judge called in, I was asked to tell what happened.
“As I was leaving my last class, Martin grabbed me and pushed me against the lockers, exactly as the video shows. Clearly you can hear he blamed me for him charging fellow students to come watch the adult pornographic channels in our hotel room. There was some mistake by the hotel where many of the rooms had X-Rated and R-Rated movie channels turned on. The adults found out about what he was doing. All of us were questioned. He and Joel were kicked off the trip. I think they were suspended from school too, but I don’t have any classes with either of them, so I don’t know. It isn’t like the school announces or posts who got suspended,” I told him. “All of the boys there with them when I went to shower that day had played on the JV football team with them last fall. Martin blamed me for his not making the varsity team. I have seen the video a few times, but I don’t remember much about what all happened. One second he was pulling his arm way back to punch me in the stomach, then I heard a loud bang from the lockers and then he started cursing about breaking his hand. The videos show I twisted away at the last second and pushed his hand away, but I don’t remember any of it. I’m not sure how long I would be in the hospital this time if he had actually hit me. Both the judge, bailiff and court reporter all went a little pale as they used their own imagination of what would have happened if I hadn’t moved.
Well that is if I hadn’t moved and didn’t have the place in my head now. Hitting my shield would have caused the same or more damage than the lockers.
I was made to go through it twice more for the judge. Then some other officious man in a cheap suit insisted I go over it one more time. He tried to say my moving away amounted to felony battery by causing Martin to impact the lockers instead of my body. I had enough.
“All due respect mister, whoever you are, but are you a fucking moron,” I yelled at him. “By moving out of the way of a punch that would certain have caused my guts and kidney smashing into mush, I am guilt of doing something wrong? What if he had a gun? If I ducked to keep from getting shot and he killed someone else, would I also be charged with murder, instead of him? Just look at me? If you checked the entire high school I’m probably one of the scrawniest and weakest kids there, including all of the girls.”
He wasn’t even phased because he replied, “Most martial arts classed teach how to use a person’s weight and momentum against them. Clearly that is what you did in this case.”
“For the record, I want to have it put down that I think this prosecutor is a complete fucking moron,” I stated clearly. “Now I want my constitutional right to speak to my lawyer.”
What is that? An “oh shit” look you failed legal monkey in a cheap suit here wasting the government’s money as you try to impersonate a real lawyer?
“You refused the court appointed lawyer,” the moron snottily.
Smiling, I answered, “I wasn’t ever asked. The cop that cuffed me at my house barely read me the whole ‘you have a right to remain silent’ stuff off a card while the other aimed a shotgun at my head. Then I was put in a padded cell. I wasn’t left alone. If it wasn’t for someone from the jail coming to kick my bed to make sure I was alive, it was some crazy naked girl that kept getting into a fight with another girl while they were booking me. She is probably still hiding under the bed in my cell. I saw her get out of handcuffs. It took a bunch of cops to finally get her held down long enough to hold into the chair with some sort of plastic cords. I wasn’t about to ask her how the hell she got free to come hide out in my cell. Any girl that can knock cops around like mannequins to beat the poop out of some other girl can do whatever she wants.”
The cop that had been at the door to the jail hurried off suddenly. I made myself not see the walls again. Sure enough, a few minutes later they found the girl in my room laying on the floor beside my bed. She was hidden from the door and the cameras were still down. I guess she got energized from that crap they gave me for breakfast. Evidently the guards weren’t told about her. Both were on the ground after she kicked them both hard in the nuts.
While the judge had a staring contest with this prosecutor I pulled power into the door at the end of the padded room hall to make it buzz loudly. The girl ran through it so I made the other doors between there and here buzz open too. She came barreling into the room as naked as she had been in my cell. I burned out the buzzer part of the door to keep it closed as she looked around like a scared animal.
“Hey again. I didn’t think I would ever see you again. Come to say goodbye,” I asked her while everyone else was starting.
This jumper was easily more her size than mine. I quickly pulled it off and tossed it to her.
It was enough to make her look at me as she grabbed it reflexively, so I said, “At least put it on. You don’t want to be charged with killing the judge or prosecutor by giving them a heart attack. I doubt they get to see naked girls with hot, toned bodies like yours in here in, well, like never.”
That wasn’t likely to happen. Still it slowed her down.
Once in the jump suit she ran for the other doors only to find they were locked.
“Hey,” I yelled to get her attention. “You can’t get out and there is nowhere to go. Might as well go ahead to sit in the seat next to me. They will be having you in before the judge sometime today. You scare the hell out of me, but I don’t want to see you get shot. If you got in here then you had to have beaten up more cops. They will probably try to shoot you next time.”
After knocking on the doors to see if they would get opened, she finally slumped her shoulders to come plod over next to me. Heavily she dropped in the chair. I didn’t expect the big hug or the kiss on the cheek. Not from someone that acted spoiled and crazy like her.
“Thanks,” she whispered. “I get kind of crazy sometimes when I drink and don’t take my meds. If you were my little brother we so would have been committing incest all the time.”
Not with my dick we wouldn’t.
Just to make sure she really wasn’t going to be any more trouble, at least until I was long gone from here, I pulled out her good energy to just until she looked ready to pass out. I pushed back in enough to keep her awake and sitting up. She just wasn’t going to have enough to fight or run until she ate something again.
The judge taunted the prosecutor when he said, “Now this woman is clearly guilty of numerous assault and battery charges. Every mark on her came from the other girl she was in a fight with. Not a one came from any of the officers she incapacitated over the last twelve hours. None of them could get a hand on her save one lucky contact with a stun stick.”
I heard the door behind the judge buzz. Four cops came rushing directly over to my table. All of them had some sort of heavily padded club. Two more came in with two foot long stun sticks. The girl was on the side of my table that had a wall beside her and behind her. It had to be to keep defendants from getting away when they had a lawyer in the seat I was using.
Not about to move, I reached over to lift up one of her now limp arms.
“I think she is done for a while,” I told them. “She has been sitting her like this since she finally sat down next to me. At least you can let me get out of the way first. Please?”
