Chapter 13: One Hour Photo
I checked in at the motel and went to my room. It was a standard motel near the freeway, two levels tall and I was on the lower level in the room farthest from the office and facing away from the freeway. After a quick shower, I picked up my voice mails from home and returned a couple of calls for work and then got dressed into some nicer clothes. I grabbed my three rolls of film and left the room to walk over to the stores. My first stop was the one hour photo store and gave the rolls to a young woman named Kate. I asked if there was a good place for drinks and appetizers within walking distance and she recommended Amigo’s in the mall next door. The small mall next door had only about thirty stores. It had one large department store (Sears) on one end and the balance was small stores. I entered the photo shop and it was empty except for one person working in the store. Kate had left earlier and Ricardo was the gentleman behind the counter working on developing pictures. He looked up as I walked in and immediately went over to a place on the counter and said “You must be Miss Sterling.”
“Yes, how did you know?” I asked.
“Because I recognize you from your photos.” He said with a grin.
I immediately could feel my whole face flushing. I had not seen the pictures, so I was unsure how they looked. I know it would have been difficult to tell I was a man in the pictures, but he must think I am either the biggest slut or something based on some of the poses and outfits I was wearing. I had never thought of this when I dropped off or more importantly when I was going to pick up the pictures.
“Don’t be embarrassed, I didn’t look at all of them, I just happened to notice a couple and you looked so beautiful in the pictures. But you even look lovelier in person.” He said.
I was still blushing as I leaned against the counter. Ricardo brought my packets of pictures over and asked me if I wanted to look them over before paying. I was starting to feel excited all over again, so I agreed to look them over first. I opened the first envelope and saw me in all my glory. There were pictures of me laying on the bed in lingerie, some with me in clothes and even a couple where I was mostly naked. They were only average at best in quality and some missed the target, but I was pleased with the first envelope.
Ricardo stood to the side and asked “Well, are they ok?”
“Yes, I am very pleased. I took these by myself with a self timer, I wanted to experiment with some new clothes.” I said.
“Next time call me, I am a good photographer, and I would love to take your pictures.” He said. “And you wouldn’t have to be concerned about your little secret with me, either.”
I looked up at Ricardo and I knew he knew. Think fast, which way do I want to take this?
“Oh so you like my kind of girl?” I asked.
“Sure I do, allow me to prove it to you. As a matter of fact, you can have those photos I developed for free.” He smiled.
I looked at the first envelope and it cost $11.50. So he was willing to give me at least $30 worth of prints for what?
“What do I have to do?” I asked.
“Let me take some pictures of you. I will develop them myself and you can keep the negatives to be sure nothing happens.” He said.
“And what will I be doing in these pictures?” I asked.
“Whatever you want to do.” Ricardo replied
“Why should I trust you?” I asked.
“I have an idea, let me buy you a couple of drinks. If you feel comfortable after that, I will take you to your room, I assume you are staying across the street, and we take a few pictures. If not, then you can either walk back to your room, or I will drive you.” He said.
‘OK, but I feel a little scared about this whole thing.” I said.
After another two or three minutes of reassuring me, he locked up the store and escorted me into his car and drove the couple hundred yards over to the mall and into the Amigos parking lot.
The place was a lot more crowded as the “after work crowd” from the mall were here drinking up a storm. Ricardo got us a small table in the bar and brought a margarita on the rocks for me and a beer for him. We chatted and I really liked him. He was very polite and soon we had been there an hour and had consumed two tequila shots each and I had downed three margaritas.
“Ok, Ricardo, I trust you, let’s go.” I said.
“If you want to make it really special, I have a friend who could join us.” He said.
“Let’s go, we can worry about him later.” I said.
Ricardo paid the bill and drove me across the street and pulled up next to my van. I opened the door and walked in the room. I had cleaned up before I left, so the room was spotless. He closed the door behind me and pulled me into his arms and kissed me. He smelled so masculine a combination of the photo chemicals, tobacco and sweat.
