"Know what?" I ask impatiently.
Her eyes not leaving the lighthouse, she says quietly, "That's where mom died. That's where they killed her!" A tear streaks down her left cheek.
"What? Why haven't you told me anything about this?"
"I will," she says with finality.
I wanted to push for more information, but her sudden change in composure indicated that she was carrying something much heavier than herself. I place my arm around her shoulder as we slowly walk towards home. I could feel her sobbing through the shaking of her shoulders. I thought of ways to distract her from those sad thoughts that now clouded her mind. "Say, sis, what would you have done if I ignored you and continued to lie in bed?"
Julia glances at me, the smile back on her face. "I would have given you the thong treatment!"
"Thong treatment?"
"Don't pretend you don't remember," she says, grinning from ear to ear.
