Sven was a weak boy, the doctors had diagnosed him with some sort of chronic illness from an early age, leaving him room bound for the greater part of his life. He was twenty years old now, all that spare time in his room had allowed him decades of game time spent on his favorite VR MMO - Axiom "Monsters Online". It was the first VR MMO of its kind, and Sven took to it like a duck to water when his uncle, his legal guardian had first introduced it to him when he was just ten years old. For a decade Sven had poured all of his waking hours between food breaks grinding the games end game content, playing PVP tournaments where he became famous among the community.
His character was so good at PVP that his online alias "GateKeeper" became synonymous in the pro scene with higher level players 'gate keeping' the higher echelons of the sport away from lower level noobs. Not much was known about the man behind GateKeeper, except for his health issues that had leaked to the public through some means or another. Sven was conflicted between the duality of his condition, he both wanted to be a public figure and be accepted and respected among his peers, but also didn't want to draw too much attention to himself, and of course his condition. So Sven kept to the shadows for the entire decade he played the game, only coming into the public spotlight for tournaments where he was allowed to play from home.
A lot of players even began rumors that GateKeeper was a girl, due to the fact that no one had ever seen him in person - let alone hear him talk. The game had voice chat, but GateKeeper would only ever type out his replies. Sven would sometimes wake up to some pretty vile and unrequited comments based around these rumors, some he didn't know whether to laugh or gag at.
Many guilds had tried their best to get a hold of GateKeeper, however Sven was against guilds for the most part, having to socialize with others and work together... It wasn't something he had much experience with and so he decided against using guilds, even though they were a pretty huge part of the game, especially for end game raids and crafting multipliers.
Sven was feeling especially weak this day as he sat at his computer desk, the light from the computer seemed dim, but Sven couldn't look away, the light seemed to be floating out of the screen itself, wrapping around him. His eyes fluttered, the feeling in his limbs numbing, the edges of his eyes blackening. Was he passing out? He had no time to react, it all happened so suddenly. Darkness.
Authors notes: This story is a slow burn at first, I wanted to create a bit of exposition for the game world and its characters before getting into anything too raunchy. If you're reading this purely for the smut then you might be disappointed, however if that is what you're looking for then you can search for chapter titles that have parenthesis which can denote certain kinks or sexual activities as and when they are added.
