In 1816, the Romanian shepherd's wife Lizbetta Coliliu was raped by the vampire Kagan Sange. Later that year, Lizbetta gave birth to a girl of unnaturally pale skin and bright red hair--features which local gypsies identified at a young age as signs of a dhampir. The local rustic community pressured Lizbetta to abandon her daughter, and so the half-blood grew up in the Carpathian mountains with barely a sense of herself, feeding on animals. But Kagan didn't take the girl in. Viewing her as 'impure stock' and resenting a stubborn inkling of humanity he sensed off her, he left the child to her own devices out of a perverse sense of curiosity to see what kind of monster this girl would become, hoping that more long years of cruelty would purge her decent spirit.
But Kagan's hopes turned against themselves. When he returned to the Carpathians thirteen years later, he found no sign of his spawn. She had been found by agents of the Brimstone Society--a group dedicated to fighting supernatural threats to common man--and it was they who gave the dhampir the name Rayne. She was wild and fierce, with a keen sense of survival from her time in the wild. But they saw the decency in the girl's spirit, and so they taught her and raised her to curb her vampiric appetites.
And, as Rayne became educated by the Society and learned what they could piece together of her own past, she became obsessed with finding--and killing--her father Kagan. As so Rayne became a hunter of vampires, ghouls, witches, and other monsters the Brimstone Society put before her.
Rayne grew up at an increasingly slowed rate after her thirteenth birthday. In the two centuries since Brimstone took her in, she has barely progressed past the apparent age of twenty-three. Her skin is the deathly pallor of all vampire, though her skin is firm and supple, unlike the rigid or wrinkled skin of older vampires. Her hair is a bright blood red, though throughout the years she has often found occasion to dye her unnatural hue brunette. Rayne has bright green eyes, almost glowing in the darkness that is her element, and her lips are a luscious, hungry crimson even without makeup. She stands a dainty five foot five inches tall, and so throughout the years she's taken to wearing extreme heels and similar footwear to compensate for her height. Her body has the delicate litheness of a moderately athletic teenager--her 36 inch breasts round and firm, her waist drastically narrowing to 22 inches, and her hips temptingly rounded to match the dimensions of her bust.
Though Rayne looks more or less normal, she possesses strength that rivals that of most strong men, though she can be--and has been--overpowered by musclebound mortals. She has a superhuman speed and agility that surpasses olympic standards, and she can recover from virtually any wound immediately provided she can feed on blood. If unable to feed, Rayne still displays remarkable healing that exceeds that of any human. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, she developed more powers related to the blood, allowing her to dilate her own perception of time and increase her reflexes even more. It was not until the Antarctica incident in the seventies did Rayne begin to realize she how to tap into her Blood Rage--a mad frenzy in which she became two or three times as fast and strong, and possessed of bestial instincts and hunger.
Rayne has had many adventures over several lifetimes, making numerous friends and enemies, all without aging.
1800's--When Rayne was still young by dhampir standards, headstrong and foolish, when her inexperience and impatience to find and kill Kagan got her in more trouble than it was worth. She had adventures in central Europe, England, and India amongst many other countries.
1900's--The rise of shadow organizations working with or beneath governments, like the Nazi Thule Society. Rayne's experience increased her deadliness and confidence tenfold. She fought the Nazis throughout the thirties and early forties, then spent decades fighting various threats that included a Soviet psi-ops program. For most of the seventies she was trapped on Antarctica. Her adventures in this century truly covered the world.
2000's--When Rayne finally had her revenge on Kagan. As the governments of the world began to form their own anti-supernatural organizations, Kagan's masterplan resulted in a mass holocaust of third-generation vampires and lesser demons. By 2012, the world had become overrun by monsters, and what normal humans remained were heavily armed and deeply suspicious of any and all monsters or supernatural creatures, including Rayne.
