Zane was a foundling, an abandoned c***d at the side of the road. He grew up amongst travelers who found him and took him in as one of their own. That’s where he got his name Zane, “Gift of God”.
At first nobody paid much attention to it, it looked like a mere coincidence. But from then on, everywhere they passed they left a trail of bad luck and sorrow. Not to them, but to someone else. It seemed random until they noticed that in all cases Zane had contact with each and every one struck by misfortune. They began to whisper. Zane wasn’t ‘the gift of God’, he was the devil’s own luck. Zane looked at them and knew. And it was true. Zane had a gift. He looked at you and knew what you desired most, and he made you believe he could get it for you. But in the end he always left you emptyhanded or brokenhearted. That and your pockets lighter. Not that he was bad or something, not really, to him that was just the way the world is. As an expression of the way he was abandoned as a k**. And it became a driving force in his adult life.
No one shed a tear when he left the travelers community. He was still just a teenager. Somebody gave him a motorcycle and that was that.
It took him less than a week to create his own motorcycle gang. Not too big, there was a maximum of five members as a rule. They called themselves The Black Doomsday Riders. The composition of the members changed regularly, with one exception. He and a pig named Brock Brody were there from the start. Brock Brody became his first Lieutenant.
Life continued. Wherever they appeared something bad would happen within the next 72 hours.
He became sort of a legend, strengthened by the fact that nobody was ever been able to catch him, he and his gang always seemed to vanish in thin air.
The profilers had a field day on him: “Alienation from the environment - withdrawal from social activities, resistance towards others. Sleep and eating disorders - overeating, disturbed sleep, nightmares. Physical ailments - fatigue, d**g and alcohol abuse, anger, grief.” They couldn’t been more off. Although one thing was correct. Zane was a classic case of attachment disorder. He had a lack of basic trust. But he could also show excessive friendliness and inappropriate approaches to strangers. Attachment being a "tie", it is not synonymous with love and affection. There he got plenty of.
One day he met up with King Kaiser. Everyone had heard the rumors about males having babies in Island World. Those stories were like an urban myth, some made-up history people kept telling as if it was true. But Zane didn’t believe half of it.
Zane fell for King Kaiser like a stone. Well, maybe not for King Kaiser himself but for the legendary dick he was holding. The moment he laid eyes on him he knew he wanted him and he knew he would have him. Zane was that kinda man.
He offered King Kaiser a drink, it took him but 10 minutes to know the things he wanted. The rest was c***d’s play. “The mind only believes what it wants to believe”, Zane always said. In this case he got King Kaiser Scooby make believe Zane was Dex. Nobody ever figured out how that treachery worked. Maybe Zane truly was the gift of God, brought to this world to bring some fun and excitement.
When Zane did get pregnant it came as a shock. For once it felt like he was not in control. At first he refused to believe. His belly grew bigger and he started having strange cravings. And there were the moodchanges. Brody Brock even suggested he might be pregnant, wearing King Kaiser’s c***d. But that just made him angry, could not be the truth. But it became too obvious for everyone to see and Zane ran around the place muttering “Fuck” and “Shit” all the time.
The other bikers were helpful tho. No one dared making fun of him and everybody jumped up to help him. They even put a cushion on his bike. Zane grew silent, but his mind was working overtime. He knew he couldn’t keep the c***d. But to abandon it, the way he got abandoned?
In a way, history helped him making that decision. When the baby got born, a handsome beardogpig, The Black Doomsday Riders were in the midst of a biker war.
It was weird tho, because the baby clearly had a gift too. Like he could look right thru your soul. He named him “Umi”, meaning “Life”.
Zane had loathed this day to come. Together with Brock Brody he made the trip to Hollow Isle (“As hollow as my heart”, he’d say) to Papa Bruise. Maybe in another lifetime he and Papa Bruise could have been a pair. Fact is that bartender was the only one he trusted blindly. And mighty cute too: a small chubby pig, big ears, big nose and small narrow eyes. He ran a lawless place where no one asked any questions. He left Umi with Papa Bruise and – just to be sure – he told Brock Brody to stay as well. Somehow he felt more at ease knowing Brock would be there too helping Pap Bruise raising Umi.
Zane told him he’d come back, but they both knew that wouldn’t be. Zane died in the biker war.
After that Papa Bruise and Brock Brody married and disappeared, not wanting them or the k** to be found.
