It’s a cold February day, right before Valentine’s. It should be snowing this time of year, but it’s not. The weather is all fucked up nowadays, not like I used to see it almost 10 years ago, in high school. It used to start snowing in November and we had snow until late March. Not anymore.

— “It’s Hildi.”
Immediately, I had a smile on my face. Hildi was one of my dearest friends in high school. We were born one day apart and ever since we met we had a thing for one another. I don’t know what, maybe we liked each other’s personalities since we enjoyed talking and spending time with one another. She even hit on me a couple of times on high school but, being a stupid k** back then, I didn’t quite get what she wanted. So she eventually hooked up with someone else. I’ve actually thought about this a lot after high school and looking back, I would have loved to be romantically involved with her. Remember me saying I missed out on a lot of things? Well, there you go.
— “Wow, hey. Long time no see stranger. I have your number in my phone, but I guess you changed it since I had no idea who was calling.” I said with an emotional voice.
— “Yeah, that’s an old number. This is my new one so you can change it in your phone”.
— “Yep, definitely.”
— “So how you been Georgie? It’s been so long since we talked.”
Georgie was kinda the nickname she gave me in high school.
— “Yeah, good. You know, working mostly. God, it’s so nice to hear your voice. And you couldn’t call at a better time.” I said laughing.
— “How so?”
— “Well, I was just thinking about high school when you called me. I was looking at the weather outside and how it’s not like the winter we used to have back in the day.”
— “Haha, yeah. That’s true. It’s kinda messed up now, isn’t it?”
— “Yes it is. So watcha doing? You back in the country?”
— “Yep. I’m here for a whole month. My brother’s having it’s first son baptised so I thought I’d drop in.”
After high school, Hildi went to a college in a different part of the country so we kinda lost touch. After she finished she went to Spain for work. I was thinking about this at times and how well she would fit in Spain. She was always this exotic girl and I always thought she was from Puerto Rico because of the darker tones of her skin. She was local tho, just like me. But her mother had an exotic origin, altho I don’t know which one.
Ever since high school I always loved the way she looked. She was a bit on the chubby side, but that wasn’t bothering me. She had a beautiful long and dark hair which would reach her butt checks. The gorgeous dark eyes and full lips made her even more beautiful. She had a great smile and she’s also kinda petite — tall enough for her forehead to reach my lips.
— “I’m glad to hear that. You know we gotta meet, right?” I said.
— “Of course silly. That’s why I’m calling you.” she said laughing.
— “Hehe. Well, how about tomorrow? I’m free then.”
— “On Valentine’s? Aren’t you going out with your girlfriend?”
— “I’m single now”.
— “Ah, ok. Sorry to hear about that.”
— “Nothing to be sorry about. I’m not…. So, pick you up tomorrow at 7?”
— “Yep, sounds good. Where are we going? So I’ll know how to dress.”

I was really happy. I would get to see a dear friend and also be in the company of a woman. And I don’t mean sexually, even tho I missed that as well. Ever since I broke up with my ex a couple of months ago I kinda went into this work-only mode. I didn’t go out much and I didn’t have sex much. Just two times with some random women I picked up from a local club. Unfulfilling, mechanical experiences tho and even if right now I don’t really want another relationship I do miss making love to a woman…
