I used the clicking of my heels on the neon-lit sidewalk to keep time with the mantra I was chanting in my head,

I reserved a hotel as close to the venue as I could find. I packed my pink chemise, heels, gloves, crotchless pantyhose, little black dress and lipstick, since my eye makeup had gone AWOL. I picked some fingernail polish, my favorite pink thongs and found my earrings and bracelet. I put it all in a lil red bag and stuffed it deep into my duffel bag.
I decided that I could get some makeup, a clutch-purse and maybe a corset (SHOPPING!!) in a mall on the way…I was still undecided as to whether I would go through with it, but after I got off work I pointed the car northeast to K.C.
The interstate was jammed at rush hour -- I hadn’t counted on that -- and my shopping excursion was cancelled since I couldn’t get into the proper turnoff lane, so I headed for the motel and checked in.
I had a quick meeting with my daughter (she had already had prior commitments for the evening --- another sign that the cosmos was aligning for my plan.) I left the hotel and drove to Missie B’s, to check the place out while in hated boi-clothes.
I ordered a couple of O’Douls (recovering lush remember?) and finally screwed up the courage to talk to one of the bartenders, named Dave, telling him a quick synopsis of my crodressing and my plans.
Dave was most helpful, assuring me that it was okay and that the party would begin about ninish. I told him I was going to put on my party dress and thanks. He said to tell the doorman I had been in before and use his name so I wouldn’t have to pay the cover.
As I was leaving, I saw a gorgeous gurl walk past me. Blonde hair in a nice hairdo, killer legs and figure in a nice tight leather mini-dress and bodice that showed-off her wonderful cleavage. But first, a stop at Walgreens for some makeup and some sort of purse. I had been told to also grab douche, lube and some condoms, but as the makeup tab was reaching well beyond my expectations so I left with eye shadows, mascara, a cute lil leopard print bag that I could use as a purse that had another bag for makeup inside of that.
It took me longer to get out of Walgreens than I’d have liked, but I beat it back to my room, showered, shaved all over, added some skin lotion, sprinkled some musk on me and got into my chemise, pulled on the stockings and slipped into my lil black dress.

I parked in the rear of the building, which Dave had assured me was okay, turned off the car and locked the doors. I slithered out of my sweats and kicked off my tennis shoes. Who ever called those visor mirrors vanity mirrors should be shot--the light was dim and I didn’t really do a good job of applying my eye shadow and mascara. But I figured the bar was dark anyway. So after adding my pink lipstick, I unlocked the doors, swung my feet out of the car and did the straps.
I took another deep breathe, straightened my dress, locked the car and strode down the alley.
I paid the cover at the door and went back to Dave’s bar (there are several in the club) to let him know I had returned. He seemed genuinely pleased to see me and made me a great, gurly-fruity non-alcoholic drink.

“Do you know him?” Bev asked. I replied in the negative. “Whatever you do, don’t buy him a drink.” I assured her I wouldn’t.
Alice had discovered that it was my first time out in public and told Bev. Bev took quite an interest in me and asked a lot of questions about me, like if my wife knew I dressed. I told her I thought she suspected and she looked right into my soul and said
“She knows.”
After that we had a quick enlightening discussion about my dressing. She asked me how I felt about being dressed in public with a no-bullshit phrase
“How are you feeling about being here, dressed now?”
I was sort of overwhelmed. It felt good to be in a dress and high heels, my nipples poking out through the sheer fabric. It was great to be dressed and talking to another gurl, albeit she lived as a gurl full-time while I was in the closet, I could sense her empathy and concern. It felt good to be accepted for being in my own skin.
I tried to convey these things to her over the thump of the loud music and the ever-increasing noise of the celebrating crowd.
