I won’t bore you with further miseries of my life. Here is what happened on my luckiest day as a cab driver to date. As always, I was searching for a party near a metro station. After a couple of hours, I went back to my car to listen to the radio for a while. Even without my knowledge, my eyes started to doze off.
I quickly fell asleep on the wheel. I didn’t know that I was dozing until I heard a knock on the window by a guy in his 30’s. I woke up swiftly shaking up my head to wake up. I took a kerchief rinsing off my mouth and swiftly responded by rolling down the window.
A guy in his mid 20’s in a corporate uniform, sharp eyes was standing outside the cab talking on a Bluetooth earphone and giving some orders on the phone. Standing along with him is a girl of the same age. I reckon she is his colleague in a highly professional attire with a tight shirt, a tie, and a black skirt.
She leaned on to the window as her colleague is busy on the phone. She told me that I had to take them to an offbeat remote place very quickly. They were in a hurry and they had to hire my taxi for the next 20 hours or so. This is like a lottery winning a ticket for me.
I told her that my cab will be available for as long as they want but told her that my charge is fixed per km. She quickly shook her head off in despair, suggesting that they have urgent work and are not ready for negotiation. She told me that will see settling of the bills at the end of the day.
She ordered me to load the car with their luggage. I got off from my seat and took their luggage and kept in the cab while they adjusted themselves in the back seats. She had sent me the exact location on my mobile phone. It is roughly 30 miles from the town.
I can see it does not have any landmark on the map as Google is just showing a latitude and longitude digits on the location. I started my car and we headed for the location on the route the Google maps is showing. I can clearly see that there is some problem going on as they constantly yelled at me to drive faster.
I can hear them apologizing to someone on the phone call who I presume are their higher officials. After we reached the destination they got off the car and told me to wait until they return. I parked my car and got off it to stretch my body of the tiresome ride.
I got off and had a look at the surroundings. There was absolutely nothing as far as I can see. It is completely a remote area full of trees and crops and small huts here and there. Soon after we arrived at the location I noticed that there is a huge amount of construction materials that are being brought in and stacked on an already large pile of existing materials.
Upon seeing the manager entering the site several guys with yellow caps rushed to greet them. They soon started to discuss something with their finger on the maps pointing to some defect and on how to fix it. All I can understand is that there is something wrong with construction and existing supervision.
They are going to pay weekly visits to supervise the construction from now on to prevent mistakes from happening. So I became their regular driver for the visits they had. After a couple of trips, I started bringing them my homemade food with a variety of items for their lunch as a thank you gesture.
I had heard them complain about the food available locally. I used to tell them my stories as well as my ambitions on how I wanted to become a graduate and wanted to be like them. This continued for a while. They really liked me and I enjoyed their company and their huge fare money.
While this was happening, one week when I was waiting for them only the girl had shown up. She told me that the other guy had some other important work to do so he couldn’t come. This was an exhaustive and very long day as there is a huge rain the whole day. The construction material has to be shifted to safety.
She checked thoroughly the existing construction that had been done in the week. She made sure the stock of material is protected from rain. Then she called the work off for the day and ordered me to take her back. She sat in the front seat throwing her purse on the back seat.

I have been on this route many times. I know that the water will be shallow after an hour and half the rain stops. Judging by the rain there is no guarantee of it stopping any time soon. I told her the same. I said that I can drop her back at the hotel we had crossed a couple miles back.
I will come back and pick her up as soon as the road clears. She raised her eyebrows and said, “Thodi der aur wait karenge idhar. Mujhe ghar jaana hai.” (I want to go home let’s wait for some more time) with quenched lips. I turned down the AC a few notches as I was shivering.
I was trying to dry myself desperately with the kerchief. Given the fact that my shirt was very thin and completely drenched it became a see-through garment. To make the matters worse, tiny shivers got into my body due to excessive cold. I was rubbing my hands together.
She looked at me for a while and said, “You can’t even handle a little bit of cold how do you call your self a man.” I was ashamed for a bit. I accumulated all my manhood and told her. “Nahi lag rahi hai mujhe sardi.” (I am not at all feeling cold) and tried to stay still.
She burst into laughter telling me, “Ohh, is it? Then you wouldn’t mind turning the AC a bit more, would you?” She had increased the AC to the minimum temperature possible. I felt absolutely chills running down my spine. My cheeks were shaking with the shivers.
I kept my hand on the gear rod holding it tightly to hide any more shivering from her and acting like the AC is nonexistent for me. She burst into the laughter again and looking at my desperate attempts. She said, “Don’t worry you won’t be feeling the cold after few moments.”
She took off her tie and tied my hand to the gear rod. She told me not to lift my hand off of the gear for anything that happens. I was confused as to what is happening and thinking hard on how the hell tying me up with a tie is going to make me warmer.
She kept her hand in between the unfolded buttons of my chest which is shivering. She slowly rubbed it all over the place feeling my chest hair and pulling it. I can clearly feel the cold hand on my chest which is making my situation worse.
I told her, “Yeh kya kar rahe ho, bahut thanda hai tumhara haat nikalo yehan se.” (Please stop what you are doing and remove the hand for god’s sake your hands are damn cold) She replied with laughter and told, “Ok ok I’ll remove my hands off. Would you mind if I keep something else on the chest?”
I had absolutely no clue to what she was doing. I didn’t know how to respond to that question. So I kept staring at her without any reply. “I really like the way you treat everyone and how hard you work. I think the world is pretty cruel to you. I want to give you a gift today.”
