(*Anne-Mal) Okay Let's Start! Tonight's guest is Carol Collins! The first
winner of Fictionmania's writers contest! Let me just say she is one of
my favorite authors!
(Carol Collins) I wish to thank everyone here tonight! I want to thank
every one that shows up tonight. I really do appreciate it.
Let me tell you about myself. I will first of all state that I am over fifty
years old. (Yes, Mindy, I am older than you!) I am a college professor
and serve as a department head at a college. I was involved in politics at
one time, writing political speeches and serving on election campaign
committees. I quit about twelve years ago.
I am married and have been for twenty eight years. We have three
children. Two are grown and the youngest is still in school. We live on a
few acres of land with a large 130 year old house in the middle. I call it
the money pit and we are constantly working on it.
I wrote "Mind Swapping" about five years ago just on a lark. I had never
written anything strictly for recreation. It was fun!
I also wish to remind everyone that we, the members of Fictionmania,
are the best of friends. We tell each other our inner most secret fantasies.
How many others, outside of here, do you do that with?
(antkew) Carol, thanks for the great stories! Do you intend to follow up
"Mind Swapping" with a sequel?
(Carol Collins) I feel that "Mind Swapping" came to a conclusion. I have
written a epilogue for the story though. It should be posted the next time
Sapphire updates her site.
(antkew) Personally, I feel that the mind swap machine is still good for
another story, don't you think so?
(Carol Collins) It most certainly is! Perhaps some one else will buy the
mansion and move in.
(antkew) How do you manage to flesh out the characters in "Mind
Swapping'? Were they based on anyone you know?
(Carol Collins) Most of my characters are based on people that I know.
Even "Evil Stepdaughter" is based on a real situation.
(antkew) How about another mind swapping story?
(Carol Collins) I am currently one called "Spy Swap". The first portion
has already been posted at Fictionmania, it is about one third to one
fourth finished. Gary Richards, the main character is in for some unusual
experiences!
(antkew) Really? Is that the one with the Russian agent?
(Carol Collins) Yes, Chomenko is the villain, a sadist in a beautiful
redhead's body.
(antkew) It is a good read so far! What plans do you have for Gary
Richards?
(Carol Collins) Wait and see! I do not mean to be flippant, but I have not
completed the story yet! I have visiting relatives that have made it
difficult to get time to write at the computer. Hopefully, soon!
(Bashful) Fred the Wizard has just appeared in front of you, he will grant
you one wish, what will you wish for?
(Carol Collins) To be forty years younger and still have my knowledge!
(Bashful) So, you would then be five?
(Carol Collins) Thank you!! I am in my fifties though.
(Chrissy) Which author would you like to write a story with you as the
main character?
(Carol Collins) We have so many great writers here, I would hate to pick
only one! I have had stories written about me already and I have written
several stories about the other authors here.
(Mindy) For your information gang, in "Spy Swap", Gary Richard is
Mindy Rich! Very scary to read!
(Carol Collins) You told!!!!! It was our little secret!!!
(Mindy) I see that most of your X rated stories have high read counts,
while your R and G have lower counts, care to comment?
(Carol Collins) I guess that the readers of the non-sexual stories are
turned off by those other stories. That is too bad. I like most of my
stories. I write them for myself. That way, there will be at least one
person that is happy with them. Of course, I also hope that others enjoy
them too!
(elrodw) What's your favorite universe (e.g. SRU) and why?
(Carol Collins) My favorite universe is the "real world"! It has so many
opportunities for a writer, for then we can twist things around to tell a
tale!
I have written only one story that is an SRU story and it has a low reader
count. It is short, but I really liked it.
(JR) Carol, It's an honor. I can say, without shame, that I'm your biggest
fan. I know we've e-mailed in the past!
(Carol Collins) Thank you very much. Flattery will get you everywhere!
(JR) Where do you get your inspirations and What do you have in store
for us next?
(Carol Collins) I write about interesting people that I know. I just put
them in unusual situations and let them react as I imagine that they
would if they were really there the stories then write themselves. I am
only along for the ride! However, I get to read the stories first!
(JR) Like in "Gang Banger's"?
(Carol Collins) There was a gang that was actually caught doing such a
thing to young girls. Someone on the TG-Fiction list said that the SRU
stories were dull because the wizard could never be killed or hurt. So, I
married the two ideas.
(JR) Then the punishment fits the crime, that makes sense! Do on to
others... And your favorite story?
(Carol Collins) "Bracelet of Love" by Stephanie. It is excellent!
(JR) How about of the ones that you've written?
(Carol Collins) "Frankie and the Aliens" The ultimate in self sacrifice for
the human race!
(JR) My favorite, too! Thanks Carol.
(antkew) I think people like "Mind Swapping", because you describe the
sexual acts very erotically. Your thoughts?
(Carol Collins) Thank you! I just describe what feels good, simplicity
itself. I am a sensual person. I like to have a slow build up to pleasure as
well and just write it as I enjoy it.
I was a teenager in the sixties and experienced much! *Big Grin*
(antkew) Care to share them with us?
(Carol Collins) Just read my stories!
(Bashful) Do you have any aspirations to publish in the mainstream?
(Carol Collins) I have been published in the mainstream in magazine
articles and been interviewed on local television.
(Bashful) How about your TG Fiction?
(Carol Collins) I would like to have "Frankie and the Aliens" made into
an Outer Limits script more than anything else, but published stories are
not as important as enjoying my writing!
(Ellie) What was the first TG stories you read?
(Carol Collins) Mark Twain's story was the first one that I read!
"Huckleberry Finn"
(Ellie) How did you first get interested in TG fiction?
(Carol Collins) I have always wondered what it would be like to
experience life in the body of the other gender. My inspiration for "Mind
Swapping" was the Gilligan's Island episode with the mad scientist.
(Ellie) What started you writing TG fiction, as opposed to just reading it?
(Carol Collins) There was a shortage of erotic TG stories. I corrected
that, to the extreme, with "Mind Swapping"!
(Ellie) So you stepped into the breach, so to speak.
(Carol Collins) I am afraid so. I loved writing my own personal fantasies
(Ellie) You did it very well. It's a great story. I enjoyed the secondary
swap almost as much as the prime one!
(Carol Collins) Which one is that?
(Ellie) The black jock!
(Carol Collins) He comes back and marries the African exchange
student, after a week with the Barberi's, he is well trained!
(Debbie_L) You said earlier that "Bracelet of Love" is your favorite
story, is there any story of yours or another author, that you would like to
experience in real-life, if given a chance?
(Carol Collins) I have read many great stories, but have never decided
which one I would most want to be in.
(Julie_1) Have you ever had your characters take the story in a direction
different from what you, as the writer, planned?
(Carol Collins) Julie, The characters in my stories have a will of their
own! They lead it where they will, I am only the secretary recording the
events.
(antkew) If mind swapping was possible, who would be the person that
you would like to swap with?
(Carol Collins) I like Denise Richards. She is sexy, yet, so very innocent
looking. Plus, much younger!
(Mindy) You have 13 stories on FM with a review or feedback higher
then other authors! Do you think there is some element in your writing
style, plot or characterization that provokes feedback?
(Carol Collins) Thank you for the statistics! I try to make my characters
as real as possible! I seldom get time to read! Darn it! I wish that I could
read every story on Fictionmania, however, then I would not have time
to write!
(Mindy) You must read other peoples stories with all of the reviews you
do! :)
If you could point to one element you think provokes feedback what
would it be?
(Carol Collins) The seduction of the main character into their new role in
life, the gradual acceptance and the enjoyment of that new role!
(Mindy) Carol, the question was geared so other authors might look at
your work and understand how you get so much feedback?
(Carol Collins) I try to make the characters real so that the reader can
identify with them!
(Carol Collins) My secret is write a story, giving little details about a
person to humanize them, make them someone that you can care about.
Some one that we can all identify with, it makes for a more enjoyable
story!
(SteveZ) Carol, I can't thank you enough for all the encouraging critical
opinions and advise you've given to me.
(Carol Collins) Thank you Steve!
(SteveZ) Your writing style seems to be leagues ahead of many of us!
(Carol Collins) You have given of yourself a much, if not more, than I.
Your editing of other writer's stories has helped the site
(SteveZ) You'd never know it from the scorn I've gotten!
(Carol Collins) Forget the comments that are critical. Remember only the
praise. Life is too short.
I only wish that I could read all of the stories on Fictionmania so that I
could tell each author what I like about their stories. I just stay so busy.
(Julie_1) What do you look for in a story when you do have time to read
since there are so many to choose from?
(Carol Collins) So many wonderful stories; so little time! I like magic/SF
and CD/TV stories. I write in both styles, but do not have a favorite.
I do look for a story that catches my attention in the first page or two,
then it is a matter of can I identify with the characters. I try to leave a
comment on each story that I read all the way through to the end. Of
course, there are many stories that I never get a chance to even begin
reading. Much the pity!
(Bashful) Is magic/SF harder or easier to write than CD/TV?
(Carol Collins) Easier, a guy can be six foot six and two hundred fifty
pounds in a magic/SF story. In a CD/TV story about that guy would not
be very believable!
(*Anne-Mal) I know you have commented that you do not like to write
sequels. Why?
(Carol Collins) When I take a story to a conclusion, I loose interest.
Besides I have hundreds of ideas running around in my demented little
brain just waiting to get out, why back up? I just wish that I had more
time to write!
(*Anne-Mal) You have posted unused chapters of "Mind Swapping" to
the TG-Fiction list. The difference is that "Carol" was tricking "Steve",
why did you drop that?
(Carol Collins) I had a basic idea of where the story should go, but the
characters wandered off to a dead end. So, I rewrote the chapters. Carol
fell in love with her own sister and now of course, they were not
biologically related!
Carol's mind was in Steve's brain and began to think like him and Steve,
nice guy that he was, ended up thinking like Carol, seducing the hair
stylist, etc. They really did swap memories, just much more so than
Steve had originally planned!
(*Anne-Mal) Did that come later or always planned?
(Carol Collins) "Mind Swapping" started out as a short story but grew on
its own.
(*Anne-Mal) So where did your name Carol Collins come from?
(Carol Collins) "Mind Swapping". After the new Carol married Tom
Collins. Tom's name came from a drink that I was served at a party the
night before he was introduced, it was a good thing that I was not served
a Harvey Wallbanger!
(*Anne-Mal) So you kept her body, eh "Steve"!
(Carol Collins) Well, finders keepers!
(*Anne-Mal) In "Freaky Saturday", you said that you got a lot of heat for
the storyline. Could you comment?
(Carol Collins) The incest was the problem. I just let the story flow into
the keyboard. I do not censor the stories as they are being written, just a
case of two people being in new bodies and not knowing how to control
them. I have never committed incest myself.
(*Anne-Mal) That is what I got out of it, also.
(Carol Collins) It did happened in the story though! Even TG stories are
considered to be taboo to some.
(*Anne-Mal) I still feel, as I have written you, that the story demands a
sequel!
(Carol Collins) Thank you, perhaps someday. After another hundred or
so stories.
(Bashful) There is a lot of talk now a days about porno on the Internet.
Some say even the G rated TG stories are porno, what is your opinion?
(Carol Collins) Porno is in the eye of the beholder, otherwise, it is
erotica. I let the characters decide the rating.
(Bashful) I have written in all four categories, G through X and agree
with you, but X rated stories get more reads.
(*Anne-Mal) Are you writing erotica, Carol?
(Carol Collins) I like them too, they are stimulating! *Big Grin* But I have
written a G rated story as well.
(Bashful) It's harder to write G and R and make it interesting!
(Carol Collins) You are so right, there has to be more human interest.
Although, I like to think that my R and X rated stories have human
interest.
(*Anne-Mal) Now you have had "Mind Swapping" made into 'books',
have you seen them?
(Carol Collins) I do not have a copy of the books. I was never sent a set
and refuse to buy them.
(*Anne-Mal) Should your fans try to get the books?
(Carol Collins) The story is complete on Sapphire Place, there is no
need. Buy them only if you really want to.
(*Anne-Mal) Yes, but books are more intimate. I want to know what you
want!! Remember that I am your fan!
(Carol Collins) Buy the books if you want a set. Let it be your own
personal preference.
(JR) Carol, with all of the TG movies that are on film, do you have a
favorite and if so, why?
(Carol Collins) I liked "Switch" with Ellen Barken, even though it was
not as good as it should have been.
(Ellie) How do you think the movie should have ended?
(Carol Collins) I did like the way it ended.
(Ellie) Then how could it have been made better?
(Carol Collins) I would have had Ellen trying sex with the other woman
though and perhaps liking it. Then, with Jimmy Smits and liking it too!
(Ellie) I think that if Amanda had accepted her femininity then SHE
would have been the female who truly loved Steve!
(Carol Collins) I have not seen the movie in a couple of years, sorry.
(Ellie) That was the condition: Steve had to find a woman who truly
loved him in order to get into Heaven.
(Carol Collins) And it ended up being his/her daughter. I did like that
part of the plot, much like in "Frankie and the Aliens". He sacrificed his
older self in order to save humanity.
(*Anne-Mal) What is your opinion of Sapphire and her place?
(Carol Collins) I love it! But, it is slower than watching paint dry waiting
for an update! I painted several rooms and they dried before she updated
her site. It is older than Fictionmania, at least twice as old.
(*Anne-Mal) But would you have kept on with out her place?
(Carol Collins) Kept on?
(*Anne-Mal) If I remember correctly, you sent "Mind Swapping" out as
a lark. Then found Sapphire serializing it at her place.
(Carol Collins) No, I sent "Mind Swapping" to a publisher and was not
told that it was published. I then sent it to Sapphire to post, if she thought
that it was good enough!
(Mindy) Which publisher?
(Carol Collins) Part Time Woman books.
(Mindy) Ah, Empathy Press!
(Carol Collins) Sapphire posted the story a chapter at a time. I bare no ill
will for Empathy Press! I meant for them to publish it, but I am still mad
that they never sent me a set of the books
(*Anne-Mal) Sapphire had permission?
(Carol Collins) Sapphire is the only person with my permission!
Incidentally, last January, there was a person posting my stories on Deja
news, their name was Carol Collins using a yahoo e-mail address. It was
not me! I e-mailed them and thanked them for flattering me.
(Mindy) Why do you think they did it?
(Carol Collins) I do not know why. I hope that they enjoyed my stories
so much that they were using my name, I do not mind my stories being
re-posted, unlike most authors.
(Mindy) That has happened on Fictionmania once, somebody sent in a
story pretending to be the author. I posted it for all of about 5 minutes,
until the real author showed up and told me the facts. It was then
removed. I don't understand what the motive was.
(Carol Collins) John Lennon was killed by a man that thought that he
was the real John Lennon and the other man was an impostor.
(georgeCnf) Mindy, could someone have been setting you up ?
(Bashful) I can't understand, plagiarism for free ?
(Carol Collins) Perhaps they were envious of the author and wanted to
join the "club"?
(Mindy) Maybe george, but no harm came from it and the story, from the
real author. is here now after a re-write! How could they join the 'club' if
everybody sent in a story and had me post it under their name! They
gained nothing!
(Carol Collins) Maybe they thought that they were being helpful?
(Bashful) Did that person use another name than the real author?
(Mindy) Yes, but it is a long story!
(Carol Collins) I want to thank each person that has shown up tonight.
