The junior Republican senator from South Carolina sat
at his desk, alone in the center of the known universe,
Washington D.C. It was after 11PM and most of the
movers and shakers had moved or shaken their way out
into the evening. Now the silence was broken only by
the sudden whir of an autonomous electric device, off
in an abandoned room or the passing of a night
watchman hopelessly caught watching the night from the
inside of this concrete paradox.
He looked at the picture on his desk of himself and
his wife on their honeymoon taken over twenty years
ago on the outer banks of North Carolina.
Now much of the outer banks were gone, swept away by a
recent hurricane, but then again, so was the man in
the picture, after been constantly battered by the
raging tides of time and terror. He knew he had
changed, he had to, to survive, but then again things
were so much simpler back then. Now he felt like he
had become a poor man?s Atlas, feeling the increasing
amount of the weight of the world?s problems on his
shoulders. But yet one thing had not changed though it
all, the love of the woman in the picture, his wife.
Aimlessly drifting around within the dim light of the
terminal, he connected to news of the world that would
ultimately shape the itinerary of his destiny. Then,
the large bold letters struck at his heart as he read:

This was what he feared would happen. It wasn?t enough
that they wanted equal rights protection based on
sexual preference and that there was even a hit show
about a bunch of queers trying to make a straight guy
act more like a faggot, now they wanted to taint the
sacred act of marriage. Marriage was meant to be
between a man and a woman, why it said so in the Bible.
It was needed to encourage procreation. What purpose
would there be for a union between two people of the
same sex?
Lost in the speculation that was slowly morphing what
once passed for Christian love into Christian hatred
inside his mind, he did not notice a stream of smoke
emanating from one of his USB ports. The smoke quickly
solidified into the form of a tall man with what
appeared to be a bad case of sunburn.

wife. She is my rock, my everything, my better half,
and I can?t live without her. I guess I will have to
help sponsor this legislation after all. But one last
question, why did you make me younger than my wife? I
must be in my mid thirties.?
