Even though, the current self is a biological male -- Sydney starts to use the same technique as well... What/how would she analyze if she were a man, the environment? I. Sydney is working on VR interactive game in Java... II. She starts to show Duncan her work so far... III. Sydney and Duncan VR is tapped into... IV. Where are they? V. Duncan is taken out of the VR... Sydney sees two men in the distance... VI. She walks closer and can first hear the older man... VII. The two persons are talking about their work and their environment... VIII. The younger man talks mostly about coding, golfing, aerobics, and people he knows and a new thing called bitnet... IX. The older man talks about how he learned eight new languages since his the younger person's ago... some of the topics are the internet and code, the internet and business, people he met on the internet, and a few conferences... X. The both see Sydney... XI. The younger man realized the setting and the unrhythmic noise, no music. XII. What is the opening? XIII. Sydney, the older man, and younger man step through... The older man is now a young woman the same age as the younger man... Sydney and the young woman are in an aerobics class... XIV. Sydney and the Younger woman talk during the aerobics break... XV. Duncan, now transformed into Dani, talks with the older man at a Bookstore... XVI. All four meet at a mall... XVII. Sydney before leaving VR examines her environment with Duncan from a male viewpoint... XVIII. Sydney and Duncan are back in their romantic VR, her in her Rococo outfit with him and the harpsichord playing... Duncan becomes a better lover through the VR transformation... for some reason, the topic of Virginia Woolf comes about and they go into a deep romance... CHAPTER ONE I. Sydney is working on a VR interactive game in Java A. She first writes the game using her own language and development system. Sydney is writing a new game idea. She is using her own language which has its own script. It gives her an idea of a Goddess writing a special scroll. B. Then she wanted to see what others thought. As she completes the program, she is interested in how Duncan will like. She added some things that Duncan would like, some metaphysical, some philosophical and some cerebral. Also, there are some feminine aspects to the program. It is her way to be subtle as to what she wants, wishes, Duncan to do. She is wondering about Duncan as she is writing it, code and Duncan, VR and Duncan and the program and Duncan. C. She starts the conversion to Java. The conversion to Java starts. She first develops a code key; it is a feeling to similar to what Fourier had when he figured out the Rosetta stone. Next, she applies the code key to making a working Java program; all the time she is thinking how Duncan would love the code key. D. While converting, she notices different approaches to programming and philosophy... Duncan would be interested in this, she thinks... The approach to converting is a code that flows. It is like a song, it has meter, rhyme, and sound. There are fortes, pianos, and crescendos. Also, Sydney sees the link between music and science that was predominant in the enlightenment. E. In her day job, she works mostly with non-programming activities. It gives her time to thing and detach for a bit from the computer. During the day, Sydney wears a standard work outfit. Normally, it is a coverall that allows her to work in many areas and is sturdy. Also, she gets a chance to obtain surplus or discarded equipment and parts. One point of the job is that she can think of something other than programming, an important break to keep fresh. F. This allows her to avoid being becoming to focused on one thing and balance her life. Duncan first noticed how her day helps her from becoming too focused. He thought it is interesting in that being too focused; one could slow down their ability. Sydney normally works in a flash. When an idea comes, she can code it right away. With Sydney, she can see the code in her mind -- typing is just a matter of transcription, the ideas flow... Added July 23, 2000 II. She starts to show Duncan her work so far... A. Sydney values Duncan's insight and his love... As Sydney completes the java application, she works on a demonstration for Duncan. In the past, Duncan has been the first person she showed her worked to. One reason for loving Duncan is that he looks at her work in many dimensions and offers insight past programming... B. Also, when ever Sydney wished to discuss something, she looks for Duncan, and to Duncan. Duncan offers Sydney philosophical ideas and perspectives. In a way, it is like she still at the University. The main thing is that Duncan does not lecture to her -- he and Sydney discuss in a form of a dance. He leads, she follows his lead, then he starts a new step, and she follows, with sometimes letting her start a new step... It is a fun dance of discussion... C. Duncan tries the game, he loves it (Sydney is in Bliss: Duncan loves her)... Duncan looks at the screen... From the setup, he feels how to use the game instantly... "Sydney, you have a gift... It is like Descartes and Picasso as one person," said Duncan. Trying and observing the screen and program interaction -- it is a work of art, form, and meditation in one... Sydney smiles. As Duncan plays with the program, Sydney can see what options are learned first and which options are liked best. By using an keyboard and mouse combined setup, along with a command line and graphic based interaction, Duncan is using both sides of mind... Sydney can feel and see this... D. Duncan approaches Sydney and gives her a kiss and caress... Sydney moves closer to see what Duncan is doing... As she moves closer, Duncan slows down his movement... Sydney peeks over his shoulder... Duncan moves so that Sydney looks around the side... "K...I...S...S...," gives Duncan. He gives her a big kiss. Sydney and Duncan both go snorkeling; it is like they are going deep together... E. Both of them are enjoying the evening, they only need each other... First, the mood was set when Duncan played their favorite tape album in the CD/radio/tape player... It is a portable player that they can bring to beach with a four band equalizer. Sydney knows how to adjust the equalizer to get the greatest effect... Duncan stops playing with game, and Sydney sits in his lap in front of the computer... They are in each other... It is just them, the computer is just a background now like a painting... It has set the mood... F. The lose track of the time - Duncan embraces give Sydney what she needs and what he needs --- it is better than VR! As the hold each other and share thoughts between embraces, the world just becomes the two of them... Time slows down to allow them to get the full benefits... As much embraces and feelings they enjoy seems like an hour has passed, when it is only 15 minutes... As they continue, the speeds up and slows down in a soothing, massaging fashion... A cooperative romantic, sensual interlude --- it is a new first for them... Added July 23, 2000 CHAPTER TWO III. Sydney and Duncan start a VR, and it is tapped into... A. Sydney and Duncan decide to continue their romantic embraces into VR... Sydney sitting from Duncan's lap, calls up a program that she was experimenting with. In the program, she added a mind setup to allow the program to interact with them and change while providing a romantic environment... Both Sydney and Duncan put on their VR gear to get ready -- over the eyes, the hands, and moisture, pressure, and temperature sensors... Before the VR starts, Duncan has a new surprise ... He is shown a series of outfit with Sydney modeling them... He looks for a minute, and by nodding his head he makes a selection... With Sydney, she is in the VR still in her non - VR outfit. As Duncan makes his selection, she sees a blur form around her... B. Sydney is wearing a gown as per Duncan's wish, A Rococo style gown with open petticoat shove a skirt of bows, laces, and satin... the top is of satin and lace with floral lace, flared 1/2 sleeves... A very Romantic gown and gown where every woman would want a man... As the blur diminishes, Sydney can see she is wearing a gown. The gown is with an open petticoat shove of a skirt... The bows, ruffles, laces, flourishes along with the satin fabric make her feel as if she is a princess... The wide flared 1/2 sleeves with a fan in her right hand, bring out femininity she has held back from herself and Duncan... It is a romantic gown, a gown where every woman would want a man... She picks up her skirt to walk towards Duncan and Duncan bows and walks toward Sydney... C. Duncan and Sydney are dancing to a minuet played on a harpsichord in the background... The song is a theme of Duncan's, that is completed in VR... As they meet, a string band of players begins a minuet... The minuet is played with a harpsichord melody and a string accompaniment in a form of concerto grosso... It starts out simple at first. It is like the minuet of Bach that Sydney learned to play as little girl, and that Bach wrote for his own daughter when she was Sydney's age... As the minuet moves to the next key, Duncan shows his dance skills. He is a wonderful to Sydney. She loves him holding her waist, and lightly, sensually holding her laced dainty hand... Dancing, Sydney feels something, and it builds deeper... It is a new level of togetherness, she is hoping Duncan is feeling it as much as she is... D. At the beginning of the third movement... Some one taps into their VR -- their elegant, romantic clothes are changed... They are about to finish the first dance... The third part of the minuet starts, in the original key. It starts like the first part, and has a romantic counterpoint to it... The counterpoint helps build the sensuous of each of them... The kiss and long kiss... Suddenly, the music stops! It is replaced by some awful noise and yelling... "What has happened," said Sydney. She tested the program and it should not have crashed like this... "It is like it's mind jumped 300 years forward leaving all of the best of the past behind," said Duncan. Duncan leading with Sydney behind, look around the new environment. From a distance, they see another figure in the VR... Duncan is thinking, is this a creation of the program or is this another person? Both aspects are a concerned to Duncan and Sydney... E. Sydney is wearing a halter with a miniskirt that shows her belly button, everyone can see that it's an innie and panty hose held up by garters that show partially below the skirt line... Duncan is wearing baggy jeans, shirt, and leather jacket,,, It is an outfit Sydney would love to wear for Duncan, but in this setting, it's as if she is a thing not a person. Sydney looks around and sees other women dressed the same, and some of the guys dressed rough... It reminds her of some the area she had to fix phone lines in... F. They both hear unrhythmic noise with someone listening to it... The music they hear, if this is music, is like a thump-thump only, a deep bass line. Where are the lyrics? What is the meaning? It is to incite aggression - it seems like it. What happened to the melodic cadences, the soft Love verses, and gentle waves of melody that makes you want to be close to another? This noise they hear is something they do not like. It is up to each to decide the environment they wish to live in, and it is the right to have an environment of isolation as well too. If this is a shared environment, Sydney thought she would just walk until she could find a way out of the alley. If this is an isolated environment, she would need to work harder to find a way to end the VR and get back to her normal environment. G. They walk closer to the person... As Sydney tries to walk out the environment, the outfit she has on makes her self conscious... The looks, she wishes Duncan was her to protect her -- this outfit is too much, and too enticing, "I hope I don't get ---", thought Sydney. As she continued to walk, she was careful to be aware of her surroundings, and walk in a manner that reduced the effect of attraction element of the outfit -- she did not want to have relationship here, not now! As she walked closer to an exit, she came to a man. This man was different than the others in this VR. He did not view her as an object or a toy, even with her outfit. He saw deeper into her. It was a man who knew the differences between wanting a picture and wanting someone to share your life with. "Why is he in this environment? This is not his natural place," thought Sydney. She continued to walk. Based on his manner and conduct, she decided to approach him. Maybe he is one who knows the way out, and back to Duncan... IV. Where are they? A. They are outside of a building with a highly decorated facade... As she walked closer to the man, the area became lighted. She could see buildings. Also, some of the buildings have a highly decorated front, but there is nothing behind them. It is as if this were a set for a play-- the front part is there, but where are the other walls to complete the structure? She looked around and saw, some buildings completed. They were the one which were plain and ordinary. Next, she saw the decorative buildings which were flashy, eye catching, eye candy with many people wanting and waiting to get near it... But, it was only a 2d front facade... The completed building offer more, but why are they only interested in the cover and not the book? "You are beginning to see what the problem is," said the man Sydney was next to. "When I first started, the philosophy was to not judge a book by its cover. And, later it was applied to programs as well; do not judge a program by its interface. What has happened in the last 12 years?" The man next to Sydney was a cultured man, but both of them were in strange cultural clothing of a warrior group. Sydney knew that the warrior group did not create the technology they are using. They were the ones who took it or forced it from others. The clothes indicate the low social, cultural development of this group. "Why did not interrupt our VR," asked Sydney? "I am sorry, Miss to do so. But, you are the closest developer who I could discuss this with. This was the easiest way to contact you. I really need to talk to someone about my thoughts. Please, please, please," asked the man. "Yes, I will help. Please, do not start to cry," said Sydney. Also, Sydney knew in this warrior world it was dangerous for a man to express emotion, like crying. So, Sydney quickly kissed him in a passionate kiss so that the others would not see his tears and he would be able to recover his composure... B. On the facade, they hear the words 'hyperlinks' and 'hot buttons'... When walking towards the white light to get of the VR, she sees the words 'hyperlinks' and "hot buttons" on the facades. Inside the links are words that describe a different computer world for what she has known. Sydney and the man are both from the same time. In their time, the computer world envisioned was that of a creative society and a peaceful society. It was not of this warrior group. It was easy going, laid back, but with discipline as well to hold certain standards. Also, there were open and personal isolated areas where everyone could go and the lack of having to maintain a 'macho' image. The world had evolved from that. It was a world where all could enjoy and explore and no one had to endure what Turing and others did when caught in a macho world next to the computer world... C. Sydney is embarrassed by her new clothes -- it makes her look like a... Sydney looks at her new clothes in the light. She is embarrassed; it is something that might be worn at home at night intimately... But, outside, it is something that makes her look like someone who can only do one thing. Also, the clothes are made the she is a prisoner in her clothes -- she needs to have someone undue them from the back, and it is hard to keep her modesty when moving around. The clothes are not her... but, it is uniform all women are forced to wear in this world, VR... "Miss, I will protect you. Also, in this VR, I will be your boyfriend to keep the others away. My intentions are honorable. I will stay close to you," said the man. As they started to walk further, three guys addressed her and moved towards in a way she did not wish... Fortunately, her boyfriend in this VR was able to dissuade them. And, he kept his word of not becoming like them... It was good to be with a gentleman and protector... D. In one window, Sydney and her new boyfriend see programmers working on code... As they get closer to the exit, Sydney and her new boyfriend see programmers working on code. They are dressed in a sort of uniform like Sydney's, but male style. They both see that is it not only the women have to wear clothes they do want to wear, but the men too. In short, what is this place? Where is the freedom? Is this an empire of ruler and slave? As they walk by, they see two programmers working on a new program. This new program is something they hope will end this VR and restore the peaceful VR that is overshadowing. "It's working..." said one of the programmers. Sydney could feel a sense of hope and joy... They are not waiting for the right time to distribute it and use it. E. They enter - it is something like the "powers that be" might have set up... The world they are in. It is a representation that one shows visitors. Everything is in its place, and symmetry that circles around a central idea. It is as if that everyone is clone, but living as individuals. The only thing is that they all act as collective in front of visitors. As Sydney and the older walk through this diorama, it is as if they models or dolls in it. They have access to resources, but only resources that service the diorama. They can see what someone wants them to see. They have to keep constantly telling themselves that this is not real, and they need to look out of the side of eye to see the real view, the wire frame hexagon outlines. F. "It was not entirely the powers that be that made this," said an older man... The older man was surprised who far the powers that be would go. Why are they doing this? Is it that they need a new group of recruits. But, this picture is not enough to get the skills the need from the new recruits. As he looks out of the side of eye, he sees a boot camp that his hidden by building facade. He directs Sydney to look. "Miss, please look out of the left side of your eye," said the older man. Sydney followed his lead and looked. "Is that what I think it is," said Sydney. "Yes, it is a boot camp. Something they don't want others to see. What we see is the mirage, and what is going on is what we are being presented from seeing. In short, a desert where one thirst for information that is true." "This could cause someone to lose their perspective if they stay here too long." Both started walking to avoid getting attention. One of the city participants started to notice them. The older man held Sydney passionately, kissing her and holding her that her skirt billowed up. The observer liked what he saw, and what Sydney was wearing and her panties show she was part of the VR underground. Then, she returned the kiss by fondling her boyfriend, the older man. G. He explains what happened, the control and quieting of groups that were helping... As they walk, the older man writes in a notebook. Also, he motions so Sydney can notice certain things. In the notebook, he writes the observations in his own script. Based on the last embrace and kiss he gave Sydney, He gave her a translator that linked in her body through his kiss. The translator allows her to read his script and communicate back to him. Also, if she should be found out, the translator is made to not operate. In reading the notes, Sydney discovers that certain groups were given extra resources to advance the power groups. But, the groups who were helping were deferred or restricted from getting resources. Also, she noticed something about cross migration and a break line that occurred between two dates. This does not normally happen. Changes occur, but one ideas phases out and another phases in. At one point, there is a 50 / 50 sharing. In this case, there was a square wave, all one and not the other. H. He explains the resulting 20X resale philosophy and how all r/d stopped in '89 (Suddenly, Sydney sees Duncan exits... she worries being in an environment like this). As Sydney looks around, in her seductive girl uniform for this environment, she sees people reading old magazines. As she is able to see one... She is able to see one by walking away from her boyfriend and flirting with another guy. This is the only way girls and guys can get information in this area. She sees the information for research and development is dated to 1989. It is like all r/d stopped in 1989. Why did this happen? Who is holding the r/d since then? As she flirts farther, she finds the new r/d is captured and held by a ruler named B. Sydney starts to break away. "No, what do you think you are doing? I am out of here," said Sydney. "She is with me," said the older man standing over the other man. The other man started to go. "It is dangerous to do that miss. Please be careful, if there were two of them, it would have been difficult." "Yes, I've been around gangs before. But, I will not do that again," said Sydney. As they continue walking, Sydney sees Duncan in the distance... He sees her... Also, she sees the VR that Duncan and her shared... An interface of half grace and half illusion and roughness. It is as if a barbaric culture is trying to act cultured. As they walk through the interface, the others see them leaving. They run to stop them. Sydney starts to run, but is stopped. "Miss, we need to be graceful to get through the interface, please walk at times and do not notice them," said the older man. They come closer, they are advancing fast. They are a few steps away. Sydney and the older man reach the interface at the same time as the gang... "They are here, our uninvited guest, dear," said Sydney. "Yes, they will be taken care of ...," said the older man. Walking into the interface, Sydney and the older man are put back in the original VR that Sydney was in. Also, Duncan is there to greet both of them. Running into the interface, the gang bounces and experiences the law of action - reaction. Some of the bounced back far into the gang VR, and others sent into the barbaric trying to be cultured VR, a harder existence than they left. Sydney is glad to be out of that VR. Her outfit is starting to change... V. Duncan is taken out, Sydney sees two men (one older and one younger than the other in the distance). 1. As Sydney and Duncan dance, he is tapped on the shoulder as someone asked to dance with Sydney. Sydney is dressed again is her romantic ball gown. "What a difference," thinks Sydney as she glad in a cultured environment again and back with Duncan. Sydney is familiar with that environment from her working with phone company --- she is happy she works there only during the day! They start to dance, after a few stances; Duncan is tapped on the shoulder. This mean someone wishes to dance with Sydney... 2. He sees Sydney dancing with the other man and notices Sydney's clothes changing. As Sydney dances with the other, her clothes change from the romantic ball gown to a contemporary outfit of 11 years ago. It is sort of a business woman's outfit, blazer, skirt, off - black pantyhose, and heels. The man Sydney is dancing with, his outfit is a business casual. But, 11 years ago, business casual was not accepted...? 3. Somehow, he is becoming an observer - he is still there, but Sydney cannot see him... As Sydney and the other continue dancing to a different type of music, soft - medium rock style sung be female groups as compared to the minuet they were dancing to. In the music, some of the lyrics deal with themes of Love, Cherish, and Taking one's hand. On the other end, the lyrics also discuss themes of beliefs, attitudes, and the other side of relationships... Both themes together are thought provoking. Duncan remembers that time and what has changed... As they continue dancing, Duncan can see Sydney and the other, but Sydney cannot see him! She wonders at first. Now, she is becoming acclimated to the time based VR of 11 years past... 4. Also, his mind splits with his male and female mind developing as separate entities in VR. As Duncan fades from Sydney's view, he feels something odd. First, a feminine persona, who usually resides by his but not in public, is starting to move side by side to his male persona. It is as if they are two people, but he knows there is only one, himself. The next sensation he feels is a separation -- there some blanks in his mind on one thing, and in other things, there are great remembrances of colors, fashions, and art class. "It is odd I never put importance on how I look? What is happening? Why am I thinking of Sydney's Elle Magazine?" thought Duncan. CHAPTER THREE VI. She walks closer and can first hear the older man. Added April 25, 2000 Sydney breaks off the dancing... They are in a hotel bar with a band performing. She heads toward the lounge chair to think about what is happening. 1. In her outfit, Sydney Sydney's high heels force her to walk seductively --- it is different from what she is used to... With her outfit, her high heels force her to walk a zig - zag line. This outfit is different from her jeans and boots she normally works with. It has been awhile since she has been dressed this way... The last time was when she graduated from college, but then she had her college robe over her dress and less heels. "Where am I? I do not recognize this VR? The music sounds familiar, but it from 11 years ago...? I better try to see what year it is (Please, Duncan where are you -- have we time traveled through VR again???)," thought Sydney. 2. She hears an older man in the distance; he is talking about the past, something in the current environment, programs and internet, friends and internet, life and internet... "This is my first big system was an Osborne 1. The biggest change came when I bought Turbo Pascal 5 years ago. I was able to pursue more complex programs, and able to cross compile my assignments on the PDP-11 at college. With a 300 baud modem, I would..." said the older man. Sydney remembers the Osborne 1. Thinking about the different systems she first used in the 70's, the answer came to her... "Well, I must have traveled back to 1989? Why am I here? It must be the VR of the older man," thought Sydney. "One new album I have is from Belinda... the Bangles, and Expose... and Madonna (I love Cherish, it reminds me of a girl I met from Georgetown," thought the man... The setting is changing from a hotel bar to an area outside... As Sydney looks, she sees that she is outside of a national hotel. Next to the hotel, is a mall. Sydney is standing outside of modern clothes store... It has soft rock fashions. She is holding a bag containing various skirts and dresses... 3. Sydney observes and looks at her outfit - the outfit is something a girl who is boy crazy might wear (but, an accented 90's version)... In the reflection of the glass, Sydney sees her outfit. It is a short skirt, with pink floral print tights, black high heels, flowing romantic blouse, and lots of makeup. Her lips are accepted along with her cheekbones... It is something that she once did in high school when she was boy crazy... "The last time I did this, I was boy crazy... Let me check my purse, do I have a picture of who I am boycrazy for? Why am I wearing this outfit, and does he like it? Maybe, I should change into something else? No, No, No -- stop it... Think objectively Sydney... Ok, I am in VR of 1989 and I am wondering how my boyfriend likes my outfit...," thought Sydney. This VR was having its effect. She could be an observer for a short period of time. But, the longer she tries to solve, the more involved she became... The more the VR led her decision making... 4. The older man notices her outfit, not her, she tries to talk to him, but he asks her for her email, instead of talking directly to her??? "There he is. Hi, David!" waves Sydney excitedly. She is waving that everyone can see her. Why can't Dave see her? She continues to wave... A few moments later, a hand - held organizer materializes in her hand... "Hi Sydney, Nice to meet you. I love your outfit --- the skirt, blouse, and tights are wonderful," said David's email. "What is this organizer doing here? Email was not part of the organizer in 1989 -- it is out of place... What should I do? I should reply to get closer," thought Sydney. This was an odd thing ... why does he communicate by email and not by talking... they are only 5 feet apart... it would be easier if he moved towards her... 5. Why email and not wanting to talk now? Sydney considers this odd... Normally, she uses email to write to friends who are outside of the US or in Wisconsin. When she has a chance to talk with her friends, she does. Both Sydney and her friends normally like to walk through the mall, stop and have coffee or tea... Sydney remembers one guy in high school who was shy... Is email the new way to talk for someone who is shy? But, this is his own VR --- why not open up...? 6. Sydney realizes, internet of being boy crazy - a new craze - "I-crazy", it is life as internet= the internet has become a "significant other." Thinking about how she used the internet, then another name 11 years ago, and how she uses the internet now, there is a big difference. About 11 years ago, she used the internet to get information from list - servers or newsgroups. Mainly, the list - servers would route email from one person to others or the email would be in a digest form... The personnel routed email includes personal conversations in addition to the topic being discussed... She remembers the list - servers on AI, neural networks, and the new hand held computers (the first computer to use LIST processing and have 512KB ram, running on two double a batteries)... Some things Sydney has seen on the internet of the late 90's have indicated some people trying to live completely on the internet... One problem Sydney noticed is that their programming and creativity change to different areas. For example, instead of apply ideas and creating applications to try them, the creativity turns to using sociological methods to change one's person to fit into a select internet group... It is as if someone starts out doing a sociological study, but forgets about the study... They decide to jump in and the reality basis of their life becomes less... Sydney and Duncan were caught once in this trap when they transported back to 1968... Fortunately, they learned how to break away and how to keep a balance... 7. Sydney realizes she needs to make contact, she adjust her outfit to get closer to him, hoping she can be a better significant other than the internet... Sydney realizes talking via email over the internet is the wrong way to go. "How can I get him to talk in reality or in this reality... We need to talk as people," thought Sydney. Sydney changed the pattern on her blazer and skirt... It was something that eye catching... This might help break his trance on the email... Stimulate the eye, by pattern rather than text... Sydney starts to walk towards him. At first, his eyes are still stuck in the email trance... As she gets closer, he peaks out of one corner of eye... Then, he starts to look back. "Please, No, Please, Please, Please," begs Sydney. She understands that he is shy, but she is hoping his other side of mind will act... As she gets closer, almost ready to touch his hand... "Hello, I mean Hi, I'm David. I love your outfit... Would you like to...," asked David. Sydney is smiling, she has made contact! The internet trance is broken... Sydney and David can now start to unravel this VR and get back to the true reality... X. The two men both see Sydney A. The older man likes her 90's costume... he looks her up and down many times... B. The younger man likes it, but wonders why so much, she is a good girl and does not have to dress that way, he can sense her intelligence, compassion, and love, he loves Sydney for her... C. Sydney says she is a programmer and asks why have they tapped into her VR... D. She wonders where Duncan is? XI. The younger man realized the setting and unrhythmic noise - no music... A. He asks Sydney what place is this... B. He asks why is his outfit out of place with hers... They look like they came from two different neighborhoods, when they actually came from the same one... C. Many questions in both Sydney and the older man... the older man is thinking about the modern computer culture, what caused it to change from '89, what caused it to change to this? D. Sydney starts to answer... E. The old man takes over and elaborates... F. Sydney and younger man listen... G. As they listen, a glimmering of music is heard, instead of noise, through an opening that has just appeared... CHAPTER FOUR XII. What is opening? Why has it appeared? XIII. Sydney, the older man, and younger man step through... The older man is now a young woman the same age as the younger man... Sydney and the young woman are in an aerobics class... Sydney and the older man experience one of two role VR's: Sydney and the female identity of the younger man, now Belinda, are in an aerobics class. This has professionals from throughout the area; the instructor is an ER doctor who is volunteering. The class starts with slowly with some gentle warm ups, side to sides and step touches. Then it moves to plies and back and forth -- Sydney sees the smile on Belinda's face and how she has a different outfits in her favorite colors, light blue, floral prints, light blue shorts like the instructor, violet, and a blue with an orange stripe... They dance to a few songs... It is time for a water break. Sydney introduces herself and talks to Belinda. "Hi, I love this class, it's great," said Sydney. "Yes, I come every few days - I wish I could come more... It is just that I get home late and need to get up early for the commute," said Belinda. Normally, Belinda is shy as male, but in her feminine persona she is open and meets people. "You are really into it." "It helps a lot - creatively, physically, and I get a chance to meet others... In my job, I work in a core laboratory - sort of away from everybody," said Belinda... "I bet all the people you work with like you, it is too bad, they don't let you meet others and put in the front section --- They are afraid of your talent and personality to meet others," said Sydney. "Thank you, I love your outfit, can you tell me where you bought it?" "I bought it at..." Sydney told she looked around at different stores to find it. The outfit was found at a mall that Belinda liked, and Sydney said they should go shopping there this weekend. The class restarts. They dance a while longer. This time with swaying, weights, and stretches (it looks great, but it is hard). In the cool down phase, Sydney and Belinda notice two guys looking at them... "He likes the shape of you and the leotard you have on," said Belinda. "The other guy likes your legs," said Sydney. Normally, Belinda was shy when she was with groups of people. As a woman, she broke out of her shell... Sydney could see this... Also, Sydney could see how someone was making it hard for Belinda to express herself. Sydney could see how his/her expressionistic side wanted to come out at the right time. The class is ending, Sydney and Belinda head to the locker room. Sydney changes form her leotard and tights to nice floral dress. Belinda changes to a miniskirt and top outfit with heels. They reach for their purses and head for the bar at the Hotel. As this VR end, they experience a second role VR: A. Sydney is wearing a new outfit, a blue leotard with yellow tights... B. They are in an aerobics class dancing to 80's hits... C. The instructor says "Step touch, Step touch, wave around..." D. Next to Sydney, is a young woman in a pink leotard and off black pantyhose... It looked like she came from work... F. Sydney realizes, it is the younger man transformed... Why? Is this what he really wanted? His feminine self having to hide? G. She dances next to her to be her girlfriend to comfort her... XIV. Sydney and the Younger woman talk during the aerobics break... A. At the break, the younger woman, ask "Why am I a woman... I am a man, is this a dream..." B. Sydney tries to explain... "It is what you mind may be hiding or you don't want others to know...Don't worry, I will help, I am Sydney... I'm a programmer too; we both are from the same era..." C. With that, the younger woman likes being able to attend aerobics class in a leotard and tights... as a man, she would wear light blue unisex Lycra shorts and white T-shirt... In a way, it was good to get it out, and see if you really liked... D. She starts to talk to Sydney, first about the aerobics, later about programming, and finally about relationships... E. She talks from her male and female side; Sydney listens and contributes as two girlfriends would... Somehow, this is easier --- why can't I talk to a girl as a male like this??? F. Sydney says "Be yourself... you have a wonderful way of being with people, go with the topics you like and the order you like..." (Sydney sees she/he was and maybe still is sexually confused... the VR is helping in resolving it...) XV. Duncan, now transformed into Dani, talks with the older man at a Bookstore... A. Duncan finds himself, I mean herself, at a book store... B. For some reason, she is in the relationship section... paging through a book on how to be a better girlfriend... C. As she about to turn the next page, an older man... comes beside her and says 'hello'... D. For some reason, Duncan, now Danielle - Dani, is flattered and waves her hand through her hair... E. She notices him, noticing her book, and noticing her... F. They move over to a sitting area in the book store and start to chat... G. He talks about his work, why he likes the store, and then about her... H. To Duncan, this is an interesting philosophical thing... interacting as a woman, it is something he remembers studying in his advanced classes... I. They talk, he holds Dani's hand, and he starts to open up... Dani, formerly Duncan, listens attentively, demurely, and femininely... It helps the older man resolve what he needs to resolve... CHAPTER FIVE XVI. All four meet at a mall... 1. Sydney and her new girlfriend, Belinda, David and his new girlfriend Dani - prepare to leave the aerobics class and bookstore and head to the mall... 2. At the mall, Sydney is wearing an 80's floral pattern dress (styling and elegant) and textured pantyhose... Belinda changes into a flirty miniskirt and top and puts her business power suit into a carry bag to take to the cleaners later... 3. Dani is wearing a long, fitted skirt and a simple top - she is escorted by David... 4. At the mall, Belinda and Sydney, try on different outfits and talk about the guys making passes at them -- Belinda is happy to flirt and have someone to love her -- maybe marriage! 5. At the mall, David buys Dani a new outfit because he likes - she wears it for him, they start heading for drinks at the hotel... 6. At the hotel, Dani and David sit in an open spot next to Belinda and Sydney... 7. Sydney and Belinda are offered two glasses of wine - they accept... 8. David and Dani ask them to join them, they tell Sydney and Belinda they look like models... they are so beautiful... 9. All four start to talk - Belinda, Sydney, and Dani on relationships and guys, work, and programming... David on work and programming... 10. Dani gets a new perspective... 11. Belinda and Sydney head to the powder room to talk - should they stay or scope for guys??? 12. They decide to stay, 3 girls with 1 guy, a dream for all of them... 13. They dance and play in a romantic evening... the best everything for Belinda and a great joy for David... 14. A glimmering light appears... Sydney and Duncan (Dani becomes Duncan again) -- and they both through it... XVII. Sydney before leaving VR examines her environment with Duncan from a male viewpoint... 1. Sydney is given insight to analyze the situation as a man... 2. She is back in her phone company environment with her usual shirt and jeans... 3. One difference she notices is that it is harder for guys to share feelings with each other... 4. Duncan encourages her to open up using her new insight... 5. Based on aerobics class, Sydney realizes that to guys, the younger man seemed feminine compared to the overly macho guys... it is not a crime... 6. Looking further, she sees the younger man, being set up with girls send by the overly macho guys as a way to tease him and trap him... that is why he did not date... 7. Sydney looking at things from a guy's perspective, realizes the aerobics class allowed Belinda/David to get in touch with his feeling and love of dance, and all the woman were in the class were accepting... 8. They gave him time to come and think things through, get out of his shell --- the feminine feelings were made deeper by the overly macho guys lack of restraint and responsibility... 9. Sydney realizes the guy culture, the younger man was in -- with his former boss part of it, pushed some guys too hard - causing some guys to move toward their feminine mode of sociology... 10. Why are some guys so dump? Women do the same thing? But, guys must live a narrow line and always prove themselves innocent to other guys charges... 11. Sydney was happy Duncan was not like that... CHAPTER SIX XVIII. Sydney and Duncan are back in their romantic VR, her in her Rococo outfit with him and the harpsichord playing... Duncan becomes a better lover through the VR transformation... for some reason, the topic of Virginia Woolf comes about and they go into a deep romance...
