Angelica smiled when she saw the note from her mother, there was
another signature under Celia's. It was a childish scrawl and looked as
though it belonged to a child of eleven. It was five words long and it
read, 'We love you Mommy.' She smiled until she saw the name at the end
of the tag.
"Who the hell is Brandy?" She said aloud to the empty kitchen. Shaking
her head she went to prepare a cup of coffee and wait for the girls to
return.
The Haven felt different for some reason and she felt relaxed, she
wanted to talk to Sophie about what she had done to the boy Simon.
There came a sense of peace to the house and she placed her feet out in
front of her on another chair. There was the scent of roses in the
kitchen and it seemed to relax her. She worried how bad the charge
cards were going to be hit by this sudden shopping spree. Slowly the
alternate reality slid into her mind and she smiled as she remembered
that Celia had offered to take little Simone shopping for a new party
dress as it was her third birthday tomorrow. Brandy her oldest daughter
although by adoption was an angel with her and would always try to get
the toddler to behave.
She slowly sipped at her coffee and stared at an article in the local
paper. By the time she had finished reading she was almost snarling at
what was being reported. There was a rapist in the area that was
targeting lone women and she really wanted to get her hands on this
scum. Then another headline caught her eye and her mood changed
abruptly. There was a baby pageant in the town this weekend the oldest
age was four and Angelica thought about putting Simone up for it. She
loved her youngest daughter and like a mother would, considered her to
be the most beautiful child.
Half an hour later she was soaking in a tub filled with bubbles and
enjoying her self as she relaxed. The mall was closed for the day
tomorrow and she did not have to open the creche. As she soaked she
heard sounds of laughter filtering from downstairs. There was the happy
shriek of a toddler and the crash of a chair in the kitchen.
"Girls!!!!!!!" then the hubbub stopped and a well behaved silence fell
on the room. Celia walked in with a huge smile on her face as she
looked at her daughter.
"Well angel things certainly are looking good with the girls; Brandy
was just trying to Simone to behave. The little tyke is outside in the
sand box."
"Okay mom, shopping okay?"
"Yeah was a..................." The women were interrupted by a scream
from out side.
They both ran to the window and looked out to where the sand box was to
see someone trying to take Simone from the back yard. They saw the
older girl come barreling into the stranger and be knocked flying into
the trunk of an old tree that shaded the kids play area. Dazedly Brandy
stood back up and they could see her shaking her head as she made
another attempt to stop who ever it was. Suddenly the stranger turned
around and pointed a gun at Brandy's head and laughed.
By this time angelica was out of the door and half way down the yard
followed closely by her mother. They heard the stranger laugh as it
turned to face them. It was wearing a brown robe with its hood pulled
up hiding its face.
"Well ladies I take this one to placate my master, so I will do
anything to have her." With that the figure started to walk towards the
fence of the yard pointing its gun towards the two adults.
"Damn it!!!!" Angelica growled as she felt powerless to intervene to
save the child.
Brandy was looking daggers at the stranger and she seemed to grow up
suddenly into a teenager. Her hair became a deep red as she stood there
a growl emitting from her throat as her newly long legs ate the
distance between her and the stranger. Her hands bunched into fists and
a green light seemed to grow from her fists. It lashed out and gripped
onto the stranger and seemed to stop it in its tracks. It dropped
Simone with a scream and the toddler fell to the floor with a little
squeal of pain and shock.
Angelica ran and quickly picked up her youngest daughter and ran back
to where Celia stood. They watched as the teenager stood facing the
stranger with her fists blazing green fire and she raised a fist and
with an angry snarl threw it at the stranger. It latched onto the tall
figure and seemed to shrink round it until it seemed part of the
creature's skin and then it grew into a deeper color and seemed to
start to pulse.
"TAKE THAT TO YOUR MASTER!!!!!" She screamed.
The cowl slipped until the creatures face was exposed and the two women
gasped as they saw the face of the assailant. It was a male form of the
spirit of the Haven Gabriele, It flinched and the light seemed to harm
it.
Suddenly Gabriele stood there next to the attacker and she smiled as
she reached out and gently touched the pulsing fire. She smiled her
sweet smile and the face changed to show something out of the worst
nightmare. The spirit then laughed as she allowed the green fire to
play over her hands and she allowed herself to grow into a child. She
behaved as if this was some sort of firework display just for her
amusement. She clapped her hands and danced around then became serious
and grew back into adult hood.
"Seriously Brandy the creatures master you have met before and this was
only the opening salvo"
The small family sat around in the lounge of the Haven that evening
Brandy was back into the 12 year old body she felt she owned and was
looking closely at her hands. Simone was curled up next to her big
sister feeling safe and loved after every one had made a fuss of her.
They allowed the toddler to stay up late and play with her sister.
Brandy had played with her little sister all the way through the after
noon. She had kept the toddler away from the area where the attacker
was still held immobile by the green fire.
Angelica was talking with Celia and she considered what had happened.
There were a lot of questions still to be answered by the spirits. She
wondered of they all had developed powers or just the children alone.
