Hello good people. This is Bobbie. The Wellman Clinic ran into some
internal problems. My crazy 'Uncle' Bill came up with a plan. He thought
that if they could play as team, they can work as a team. He wanted the
clinic to play soft ball. He challenged the Salem City Police to a
match. The proceeds to go to charity. My 'Aunt' was all for it. She felt
along the same lines as my 'Uncle'. I had to admit one thing. They had
the right thing in mind as far as team work went. What happened off the
clock was the personal business of each player.
My friend Jo Friday went for with a bullet. She liked the chance to
raise funds for charity. I had to tell her. "We play for real. I like
you and like working with you. But we play for real. Besides, the
viewers like seeing a good game."
Jo said, "You're on Bobbie. As a side bet, loser buys four meals. I will
bring my date, you bring your husband. The place is Kobe's Ichi Ban."
I said, "Deal Jo. I will also add cab fare on the bet. After all, it not
look good for two of the best cops to get caught with D.W. I. or D.W.
A. I."
Jo said, "You got that right. Best of luck to your team. May the best
team win."
The Wellman Clinic could field seven players. I was willing to play left
field or short stop, so that made eight people. We still needed an
outfielder. Larry wanted to help, but Belle told him " No thank you.
Your family needs you more. However your heart is in the right place."
Larry was heart broken. I knew he wanted to pay back the Wellman for
what they did for him when he was hurt. I saw him at the Irish Inn, so I
bought him a few beers and told him." This is for the gals. Nicole would
have liked to see you act this way. You can help as a support person,
but not as a player. Can you understand?"
Larry said, "I think I can Bobbie. I am walking, but can you call me a
cab?"
I said, "O. K. Larry you are a cab. I can take you home."
Larry said, "Thank you Bobbie."
I understood Larry well. He has very few friends. Outside his wife's and
my families, there was no one. Nicole's moving had hurt Larry. Larry
feels he has never redeemed himself to Nicole. I had talked to Belle.
She said, "Larry and Nicole must come to terms on their own. The Wellman
Clinic is good. But they cannot solve all problems. Larry and Nicole
have to deal with this on their own. Larry may be truly contrite, but he
and Nicole must forgive each other."
Well two days later, Larry called me. He said, "Bobbie I have a
coworker who wont work or play well with women. Can you or your Aunt
make him see the light? He is also a great in right field."
I said, "I will see what can be done Larry."
Larry said, "Thank you Bobbie."
I took this to my Aunt. I asked Belle, "Why can't Larry train his
coworker to today's views."
Belle said, "Well Bobbie it is like this. When the Wellman broke Larry
of his need to hurt, it was total. Larry could fight to protect someone,
but he cannot attack. For Larry to train that coworker, he would be
forced to attack. That would hurt Larry even more than he can stand at
this time. I do like his plan for right field. Tell Larry to send that
worker to me and that training will begin. Besides we do need some one
in right field."
Well Larry did send Ken to the Wellman. Ken was not to bad. But he did
need some awakening to the world today. Belle talked with him and said,
"Kenda."
Belle made Ken into Kenda. She said to him/her, "You will return to your
old body when you learn that women can be both bread winners and
mothers. Please don't get with child. You get with child and you will be
stuck."
Kenda/Ken did obey Belle with out question.
Well the team was coming together. Larry and Helga did give alot of
support to us. The GatorAde and lemonade came in handy. The wraps and
massages to the sore body parts felt good. Larry had you learned well on
that score. Larry had asked about a DH. I had to say to Larry " We have
to stick to nine people. I checked that out as well."
Game Day came. Larry dressed as Laurie sang the National Anthem. We won
the toss for who bats first. I said, "Let the Salem P.D. bat first." I
wanted the lasties.
The game was hard pressed. It also was the bottom of the ninth. I had
three people on base and the score was tied. Kenda was on third and
could run. Sara popped an foul ball and it was caught. Anne struck out
plain and simple. Carol who was our best hitter was about to take the
field. She sprained her ankle. Helga iced Carol's ankle fast. Larry
said, "Carol we are the same size. Well almost. I got bigger hips, and
you got a bigger chest. Give me you uniform please."
Carol asked, "Why little buddy?"
Larry said, "I am still dressed as Laurie. I will take your place. If I
get a hit, the Wellman wins. If somehow I get an out, it is just extra
innings."
Carol said, "Do me proud. If you were not married to Doc Hessman, I
would court you myself. Make her happy."
Larry said, "Thanks Carol "
Carol said, "Larry there is one more thing. I worked with your sister.
Nicole does forgive you. You must forgive your self and Nicole."
Larry was almost in tears when he said, "I cannot forgive Nicole. She
has done nothing wrong to me. Her goals for me was to make me better
human. I will try for the your other request."
Carol said, "Good for you girl. Now do the Wellman right."
Larry said, "Lets Rock!"
Carol gave Larry a girl to girl type hug.
Well 'Laurie' came up to bat. I vowed no matter how good Larry did I
owed him. I would tell him of my past. I told Barry before we were wed.
Barry still kept me. I still want him. Larry earned the right to know me
as my full me. 'Laurie' hit a double and we won by one run. 'Laurie'
was tagged out after the run scored.
Jo came to me and said, "Way to go Bobbie. Thanks Laurie for a being a
good sub. If you were not hitched, I would want you for myself."
Larry said, "You know me Jo?"
Jo said, "Yes I do Laurie. Tell your wife your both my guests at Kobe's
Ichi Ban. Bobbie please set the date." After that Larry got another girl
to girl hug.
I agreed after letting Jo into allowing us to split the cost
Larry wanted a team photo. I will try to add it. Larry as Laurie is the
second from the left and Kenda is the third.
