I sat in the driver's seat of the car on our way to the airport to pickup
Mark. I looked over at Tammy who had an excited expression on her face
and thought about what we went through the past few months.
How many people could say they had recently had a sex change? The last

Last time we talked, he didn't have any clue that Tammy and I were really
married and now he knows the truth.
This was going to be a very strange day for me knowing what Marks knows

We were entering the parking area of the airport and I grabbed the ticket
when we passed through the gate and I parked the car. I looked over at
Tammy and saw her playing with that big diamond ring she was wearing.
She appeared very nervous and excited at the same time. I put my hand on
her arm and smiled and said. "Are you ready?"
She just responded by shaking her head and I opened the door and waited
for Tammy to walk around. Out of habit, I took hold of her hand but

We walked into the airport building and toward the area where Mark's plan
would be coming in. We were right on time so we started walking a little

hand around Mark as we all walked to the car.
Mark loaded the suit cases into the trunk and offered to drive.
"Mark. Why don't you and Tammy sit in the back seat and let me drive? I
bet you have a lot to talk about."
Mark didn't object as he and Tammy climbed into the back seat together
and I drove the car. I was able to see them in the mirror and saw them
kissing again. They were whispering to each other so I don't have a clue
what they were saying.
It had been about a year since Mark had gone. I knew they had a lot of
catching up to do and a lot they wanted to talk about. I thought I'd feel
more strange than I did but I really seemed to be adjusting to this
really fast.
I could hear them talking and kissing as I glanced in the mirror and saw
Tammy holding her hand across her face so I couldn't read her lips. I'm
sure she was telling him something sexy!
I pulled into the driveway and got out of the car and opened the trunk.
Mark seemed to be in a hurry as he pulled the bags out of the trunk and
hurried to the front door. I was right behind them carrying the small bag
again as Tammy unlocked the front door.
Tammy held the door open for us and Mark sat the bags on the living room
floor and turned to me and said. "Thank you for your help and driving us
home."
We starred in each other's eyes and I wondered what he was thinking about

"I understand you met Charley at my old apartment?"

"Yes. I met Charley."

He was trying to set me up with his friend. Maybe he felt guilty about
taking Tammy away from me.
"I never really considered going out. I guess that would be nice."
"You don't have to be nervous around Charley. He is a really nice guy and
I'm sure the two of you will hit it off."
I had a suspicion that he was trying to completely get me out of the
picture with Tammy. Maybe it was the way I felt around Mark. My mind kept
playing this out for months. I still loved Tammy and I was jealous of
Mark. I wanted to be a part of her life, share everything.
Tammy walked back into the room.
"Mark. Why don't you go into the bedroom and see how we arranged
everything for you while I talk with Jenny in the kitchen?"
Mark smiled as he picked up the last two bags and headed toward the
master bedroom. It felt really strange having him living her now and
seeing him walk into my old bedroom. The room that Tammy and I shared as
husband and wife now belonged to her and Mark.
I've been dreading this day for weeks, months, knowing that Mark and
Tammy would spend their first night together in that room making wild

I followed Tammy to the kitchen and watched as she poured a glass of
water and took one of her birth control pills. She was so beautiful

Tammy could sense my feelings. She walked in front of me and held my chin

She didn't speak. She just put her hands on my waist and pulled me toward

"We'll always tell people that we are sisters."
I smiled knowing how much she was trying to cheer me up. I got my next
shock as Mark walked up to both of us and put his huge arms around both
of our waists. I couldn't have been but several inches away from Tammy's
face as Mark kissed her on the lips as he held us both.

My door gently eased open and I could barely see Tammy peeking in the
crack. I pretended to be asleep as she slowly walked toward the bed and

forehead and walked back out of the room
The smell of her perfume and a touch of Mark's cologne lingered in the
room. I knew in my heart that Tammy still cared about me but she belonged
to another man now. A man! I could barely smell the aroma of sex along
with the other scents. I soon feel asleep until the morning.
The sun was shining in my window as I gently opened my eyes. I remember
dreaming about Tammy coming into my room last night and giving me a
gentle kiss. What's this? I was looking up at the ceiling and it startled

I turned quickly toward the other side of the bed. Tammy was starring

Where was Mark? I was confused. I sat up in bed leaning on my elbow and

"Where is Mark? Where are his things?"
"Honey. Are you all right? Did you drink something over at Jean's house
last night?"
It was all coming back to me now. I must have been dreaming about Mark

have come home late and dreamed about everything else.

lips. Everything was coming back to me now. I remembered what Jean had
told me about Mark and how hurt I felt. I couldn't explain it but I felt
that I had also hurt Tammy. I had let her down as her husband. She fell
in love with another man and it was my fault.
I held Tammy close to me as she nudged her face next to mine. She rubbed

"Tammy. Have I disappointed you the way this has turned out?"
Tammy was thinking. I could see it in her eyes.

I wiped my eyes knowing that Tammy carried about me. I didn't want to
discuss Mark at the moment. It hurt too much to think about my wife

Later that morning we showered together and I tried to forget about Mark.
I thought it was very peculiar that I dreamed about a guy named Charlie
who shared his room with Mark. I don't remember Mark ever mentioned his
name to me before.
The phone rang. Tammy walked into the room carrying the phone.
"It's for you. It's Jean."
I really didn't want to speak to her right now but Tammy gave me the
phone.
"Jenny. How are you doing this morning? Have you given any thought to
what I said to you last night about Tammy?"
I took a deep breath dreading to answer her question.
"Uh. We spoke in bed this morning and I asked Tammy if I disappointed
her."
"Jenny. Don't be silly. She's not going to tell you that! You're her
husband and she isn't going to hurt your feelings that way. You have to
make a move. You're the one that is going to have to encourage Tammy. She
is hurting inside just as much as you."
"Jean... I don't know what to say... How should I approach the subject?"
"Jenny, is Mark with Tammy right now?"
"No... He went to pick up his friend at the airport but I think he's
coming over later."
"Good... Jenny... This is a great opportunity for you!... Here's what you
need to tell Tammy."
I listened as I swallowed hard wondering what Jean was going to suggest
to me.
"Just go to her and hug her tight and just say to her that you're so
happy for her that she found Mark. Explain to her that you feel relieved
that she has a man in her life now and you don't have to worry about
hurting her."
This was almost too much to bare. I knew that if I reassured Tammy the
way Jean was telling me that I was sealing my fait. I was basically
telling Tammy to forget about me and go on with her life.
"But... Jean... I think she already knows this... Maybe I shouldn't even
bring it up anymore. She might get angry with me."
"Jenny. Stop it right now and listen to me. You're the one that's
fighting this and not her. You know what you need to do, now stop
dragging your feet around and talk to her."
I stood crying as Jean spoke to me.
"Jenny. Stop feeling selfish. You may have to encourage Tammy on a daily
basis as she has with you about your transition. She has given you her
support and you at least owe her your support in return."
I felt numb listening to Jean but I knew she was right. I had to give
Tammy my encouragement
no matter how much I hurt inside. It was up to me now to stop the hurt
for Tammy. We hung up and I stood thinking about what I was going to say
to Tammy.
Tammy was in the kitchen standing next to the sink. I saw my hormone
pills sitting on the table with a glass of water waiting for me. She
turned and smiled at me.
"Jenny. You forgot to take your hormone pills this morning."
She handed me the glass of water and gave me my pill's one at a time as I
swallowed them. She took the empty glass out of my hand and put it in the
sink. That's when I made my move and walked up behind her and put my arms
around her tiny waist.
I kissed the side of her head and whispered in her ear. "Tammy. I'm so
happy for you that you found a man that you can love. I know Mark loves
you and will take care of you and I know he will treat you well."
There. I said it!...My heart was beating hard as I waited for a reply.
Tammy turned around and hugged me tight.
She was crying as we hugged each other. She was holding me very tight.
She was finally able to speak to me once she gathered her thoughts.
"Jenny. I never wanted to hurt you. I've been so selfish myself. I
shouldn't have done what I did with Mark. I realize you need more time to
adjust to your transition and I'm sorry for what I have done."
I knew she was trying to apologias for falling in love with Mark but I
had to reassure her like Jean said.
"Tammy. Don't cry. It wasn't your fault. I know what I want in my life
and I don't want to hurt you. Stop feeling guilty about Mark! I don't
blame you nor do I blame him. It just happened and he was there when you
needed someone and I understand. I'm happy for you!"
Tammy pulled her body away from me just far enough so she could look into
my eyes. I could see that she was about to tell me something else.
"Jenny. I don't want you to be upset with me but I told Mark
everything... I felt that he should know the truth about you and me."
God. It was just like in my dream. Tammy had told Mark the truth about
me. I felt so ashamed at that very moment. How could I face that man
after trying to fool him? What was Tammy trying to do to me?
"Tammy, I don't know what I'm I going to do now? How can I face him again
after lying to him?"
"Jenny. Mark understands. We had a long talk about the situation last
night while you were gone. I couldn't go on pretending any longer. He
deserved to know the truth!"
"I think you should have waited to tell him."
"Jenny. Mark got upset last night that I waited so long to tell him as it
was. I feel terrible about not being 100 percent honest with him. I felt
that you were being deprived as well."
I walked away from Tammy leaving her standing in the kitchen. I could
hear her crying as I shut the spare bedroom door. I didn't even come out
to eat that night I was so upset with the way things went that day.
I didn't hear a peep in the whole house that night except when Tammy got
ready for bed. Mark didn't show up that night and I wondered what was
wrong. I lay in bed starring up at the ceiling as the moon light shined
into the room. I wondered what Tammy was thinking at that moment.
