Turning back to the huge windows of the private room id woken up in, I
looked out at Biscayne Bay. Remembering it from my brief time before
arriving at flamingo park, I turned to the Macarthur Causeway, hard to

the closet, I walked into the bathroom to change into them. As I changed
out of the hospital gown, I could again admire the body id been given,

Flicking down to the part about the two that died, I read more about what
happened, apparently I was a hero for what I?d done, even though it cost
me my life. I was being awarded a posthumerous bravery award for saving
the girl.
Putting the paper aside, I looked through the closet and drawers for a
bag or purse, anything that would tell me more about who I was now,
finding a white Prada bag, I sat down on the bed and opened it up.
Knowing what they cost, I found make up inside, some flyers, a lot of
useless crap that women have to carry around, as id thought of it before,
now id be needing that useless crap.
Finding a matching white purse at last, I flipped it open and looked at
the Florida drivers licence in the purse, Nikki Rosenberg, then I knew
what family id just become a part of.
The Rosenbergs were wealthy, not like Bill Gates or Donald Trump, but had
a fortune of about 500 million, with interests in finance, banking, real
estate, even politics. I?d only remembered them because id read a bio on
them in one of Florida?s papers that id brought not long after crossing
the border between Alabama and Florida.
They had diversified, survived the dot com bubble burst by selling just
before the share price dropped, by luck or sound advice. They also had
money invested in several hotels, luxury apartment buildings, as well as
giving money to several community projects.
The sound of the door opening got my attention immediately, turning to
see who it was, I stopped as a couple in their late 40s to late 50s
walked in. The man was about 50,in a custom made suit, from here I
couldn?t tell what kind it was, but it was a top quality suit, his hair
was greying, but still mostly black.
The woman could have been 10 to 15 years younger at first glance, but
had to have had surgery to look younger, this was America, the plastic
surgery capital of the world after all. As they saw me up and on my feet,
they nearly ran to me and embraced me, her tears trailed down my neck as
his arms wrapped around me. Taking in the scents from both of them, I
managed to extricate myself from their grip and ask them who they were.
The idea that their daughter may have amnesia had to have been told to
them because they took it easier than I thought they would. Sitting down
with them on the balcony, I listened to them tell me about Nikki, how
long she had been unconscious, a week, how much they had missed her, a
lot.
They showed me family pictures of them and Nikki, as well as photos of
their home, my home as well now, the car Nikki drove, a SAAB 93
convertible. From what they told me, Nikki still lived at home, but was
starting to work on her own real estate portfolio.
Then they told me the bombshell news, they had given Nikki 7 million
dollars on her 18th birthday for staying clean and sober, clean from
drugs and from staying out of trouble, and another 7 million on her 21st
birthday on the same proviso, which was last year. That was more money
than I would have earned in my lifetime, properly managed, it would last
even me.
Realising that I was either in shock or still tired, or both, they asked
me to rest up, as they were taking me home tomorrow, only too eager to be
out of here and explore my new chapter of life as Nikki, I let them walk
out before laying down for an hour or two before my first real meal was
brought in by a nurse.
