Scientists tell us there are four fundamental forces that make up our
universe, the weak nuclear force, the strong nuclear force, the
electromagnetic spectrum and gravity.
What they don't know is there is a fifth one. Call it coincidence, call
it synchronicity, call it irony with an attitude, whatever the case for

That certainly seemed to be the case with what happened to the world on

On that fateful day, professor Samuel Parker and four grad students were
in a little visited section of Columbia investigating a just uncovered

A happenstance of events had seen to it that Parker and his students
just happened to be in the right place, with the right papers, and just
enough influence to be allowed to be the first to explore the strangely
angled, moss and vine covered, edifice on just that day.
One day earlier or later and it wouldn't have mattered what they or
anyone had done, and even if it had been anyone else, none of those
qualified who would have been sent there would have been lax enough in
their technique to do as the haphazard Parker did.
Just past sunset and Prof Parker is setting on a camp chair in the tent
set aside for their discoveries, which despite having their having been
there less then a day are impressive ones.
Found by locals only a week before who had taken a wrong turn on a path
and stumbled onto the structure that was so overgrown that it could
almost have been mistaken for a part of the landscape, the stones of the
temple, or whatever it had been, were cut built at an angle that made
the eye hurt if looked at for too long.
It's modern discoverers had the good sense to leave it alone, as had the
others who had come across it in the three millennia since it's
abandonment, and yet coincidence saw to it that on that day, near a time
when subtle forces that had not been right, ready, or in place for eons,
and would not again be in place even longer if missed, that one of the
villagers who found it just happen have access to a satellite phone, be
of the opinion that the lost culture of Colombia needed to be preserved,
and was a former student of agriculture, and so knew the number of the
nearest university where, due to a very important archeological
conference then taking place in London, was empty of more qualified
people, leading to the visiting Parker and his students being there.
Leading to Parker in that tent, just minutes before sunset, on 31
October, with those strange forces just right. In his hand is what looks
like a black glass ball, before him is a bowl covered with carved
images, out of the middle of which sprouts what looks like a large
eggcup, beside that is a grimacing mask, all of them made from the same
dusky obsidian. All the rules of his profession and common sense say
these object should be treated delicately.
At sunset Parker picks up the mask and looks though it's eyeholes,
simultaneously he absentmindedly drops the black volcanic glass ball he
had been looking at into the holder rising from the center of the bowl,
it produces a sharp click as Samuel thinks "I wonder what all this was
for?"
Xighulipotup, a conflagration strange forces, and warped space, called a
god by the lost people who built his temple long ago doesn't wonder why
the ritual that activates him, and that has not been preformed in over
three thousand years has been enacted again at just the right time, in
just the right place, being rather timely that would be a meaningless
concept to it/he/she/they anyway.
Xighulipotup not really being something that thinks in the conventional
sense that did not a concern it, being a matrix of potential that reacts
with only seeming intelligence, it reacts, and the world changed as that
potential spreads out over the world in a barely visible something that
looks like a mauve heat wave.
At its center Professor Parker thinks, "I shouldn't have done that,
wouldn't want to chip this stuff!" otherwise he notices nothing, because
despite his lack of competence, he is an honest man, and even if he or
others in his party aren't, the forests of Columbia are not places where
people tend to put on artifice, and as a god of truth that is what
Xighulipotup is concerned about, and what his chance invocation has
brought about is something that has not been seen in so long that it's
very existence has been forgotten.
What Xighulipotup means, in the lost language the builders of the Temple
is, The Day of Truth.
And that is just what happens for the next 24 hours, it is not that
people find they cannot lie, far from it, lying is too much a part of
basic human nature to be stopped, even by a god, no, for one day,
whatever lie, misrepresentation, or artifice being practiced by anyone
becomes real.
As the Day of Truth wave courses around the world, contact lenses
disappear as their owner's eyesight becomes clear without them, while at
the same time tented lenses become the true shade of those eyes, wigs
become real hair, while shoe lifts and foundation garments disappear and
the people who had been wearing them find that is their true form.
No doubt a lovely, and to those who receive it inexplicable gift, but
not really world changing, not until that 5th force of coincidence
angles things so that this long missing time of the Day of Truth happens
to occur on is known in America as Halloween.
More importantly a day that takes place when far more deception takes
place because of television, fashion, and the Internet, deception that
with a shudder of reality suddenly becomes real or at least as best as
an otherworldly conglomeration of esoteric forces can interpret.
Elsewhere...
It's almost 8 O'clock in California where Roy Kennedy and his girlfriend
Paula Redding are in Garuman's Chinese Theater to catch the 8:15 showing
of Hugh Grant & Halle Berry's new epic "Loves Hasty Rash," first however
Roy finds he needs to relieve himself, and second the also finds the
men's restroom is closed for repairs.
While Paula goes for popcorn and soda, Roy sneaks into the women's
restroom hoping no one is in there, seeing no one is, he finds a stall
and sets down to do what a man has to do, principally a man like him
with a diet high in fiber.
Setting and contemplating the stall door in front of him Roy gets a
weird creepy feeling of the sort his grandfather use to proclaim meant
"a goose walked over your grave," at the same time the surface of the
stall door seemed to shimmer as if he were looking at it afar though a
high summer heat, an oddly purplish summer heat. "What the heck was
that?" wonders Roy, then to his horror he sees a pair of women's legs.
No, another person had not entered the deserted restroom, Roy sees the
legs as he tilts his head down and is greeted, not by his paints around
his legs and his old friend "Mr. Johnson," but a slim pair of smooth
legs which rise out of a pair of blue silk covered high heel shoes that
seem to have some sort of fancy gold flowers sawn into them. Legs that
lead to a part of the human body that, while he had admired examples of,
he certainly had never possessed one himself. What I'm saying is Roy has
a vagina.
His former need suppressed in a flash Roy leaps up from the seat, when
she does this her sleeveless, Mandarin collared, royal blue cheongsam
falls down to cover those legs, save for the left one which peaks
provocatively though the slit that climbs half way up it.
Bringing her slim scarlet lacquered nailed hands up from her sides and
running them in disbelief down her body Roy feels them pass over two
small pert breasts hidden under the cheongsam.
Dashing to get out of the evidently haunted, or cursed, or some damn
thing restroom, Roy slams though the door back into the lobby of the
theater, as she does so she gets a glimpse of the petite Asian woman the
former ginger haired young man who was himself has become.
Displaying remarkable skill dashing on heels for someone who had never
worn a pair before Roy is greeted by the sight in the lobby of two
Chinese people at the concision stand.
A Chinese man in a red jacket behind the counter is pointing at a
Chinese woman, who is dressed like his girlfriend Paula had been, who is
standing before the counter.
In unison, and in perfect Cantonese they say "Mister / Lady! How did you
do that? You just turned into a Asian man / woman like magic... Is this
a TV show? Are you with Criss Angel or something!"
As Roy takes this in, the fact that he can understand, and speak a
language that before had been as unfamiliar to him as... as well Chinese
does not dawn on her, what Roy notices, aside from the pair at the
concession stand, is a murmur steadily growing in volume coming from the
theater doors as the patrons within start to discoverer the way
Xighulipotup has, to the best of it's ability, interpreted the way
people in something called a "Chinese theater" should be.
While across town...
James and Carrie Waid walk into the suburban home of their friends Bob
and Nora Carrstairs, "You made it!" shouts Nora moving across the almost
crowded living room to greet the couple, as she does so the transparent
plactic wings of her fairy princess costume slap two of the other guests
in the face at the annual Carrstairs Halloween party, the short
diaphanous lavender robes and matching tights, looking more than a touch
incongruous on her plump 46 year old frame, waif around her.
"We were afraid you wouldn't be able to make it this year!" says Nora
reaching the pair and taping each with her silver star tipped plastic
wand, "You were able to find a babysitter this late on Halloween?"
"Sort of" replies Carrie, a tall slim women in her late 30's,
resplendent in green body paint covering her face, and a costume
reproducing the image of the not so wicked witch from the stage
production of Wicked, "out of the blue Danny decided he didn't want to
go out tonight, said he was going to say home and study of all things!"
says Carrie referring to her and James's 16 year old son, "and as Nick
is `too old? for this Halloween business now we left him in the care of
his older brother," added James Waid his face also covered in green
paint, only for him as a way to augment his Frankenstein Monster
costume. His reference being to the Waid's 13 year old son Nick.
"Well, I'm just glad you could make it!" says the ever-exuberant Nora,
"most everyone else is already here, make yourselves a drink and
mingle!" Which is what the Waid's proceeded to do, in doing so passing
friends, neighbors, and strangers who where gathered at the nearly
famous yearly bash.
There was Bob Carrstairs in his traditional Carmen Miranda getup,
talking to George Summers doing a passing impersonation of one of the
Blue Man Group, the Donners as a pair of Lord of the Ring Elves, Sam
Edgington bold enough to actually go parading around in a close copy of
Madonna's donanatrix outfit from that video of years ago, some couple
they didn't know as Chewy & Princess Leia in her bronze slave girl
bikini, and the ever original Martha and Sam Patton as, of all things,
the Olsen Twins! "The Usual gang" said Carrie, "indeed" replied James.
While out on the highway on the road to Vegas......
A brand new Harley Davis motor cycle, gleaming with chrome pulls off to
the side of the road, the driver pulls off her helmet placing it between
the handles. she shakes her head and long gray hair flies out after
being freed from it's restraint, as she does this she brings her gloved
right and up and pinches the bridge of her nose between her eyes.
Opening them the woman, who is dressed head to foot in leather, gets the
strange impression that her already impressively large "hog" has some
how gotten even larger.
This of course is not the case, it's just that Spider Solidad, former 6
foot, 4 inch, 214 pound, 26 year old Outlaw biker wannabe, is confused
by the effect of having said Hog out paced by the Day of Truth wave,
which in passing over him saw to it that he is going to have an even
harder time pulling off the Outlaw biker act when he finds that she is
now the image of Ellen Nussbaum, the 67 year old, 5 foot 1 inch, 96
pound woman who's identity he had stolen to buy the bike. Spider however
does now make one impressively tough looking older lady.
While just a little distance away in the same neighborhood...
"Who are you and what are you doing in our house?" shouted Carrie Waid
looking down from landing of at the top of the stairs were she could see
a strange girl setting at the keyboard of the computer that had been set
up for the use of the two Waid boys, which make it possible for their
parents to keeping an eye on what they were up to. "Mom! You and Dad are
home already?" asks the girl as she takes her eyes off the monitor
screen and looks up at Carrie, who is dressed in one of her best
dresses, with a look of someone having been caught in the act of doing
something they should not have been doing.
Seemingly around 16, the girl has a head of flaming red hair that falls
well below her shoulders while at the same time cushioning her head with
at least 5 inches of big haired glory, dressed in a midriff baring red &
white stripped blouse that barely holds her two double D size breasts,
the mystery girl's only other clothing are a tight pair of cut off
jeans, and extremely shinny pantyhose which are covered just above the
ankle by short pink laced socks, she wears no shoes.
"Whoever you are you better leave now or I'll call the police!" says
Carrie, stopping several times during her announcement and clearing her
throat, adding "and where's my brother Nick?" In reply the girl replied
"holy crap I've got tits!" looking down at the ample cleavage as if
seeing them for the first time.
While at a university not too far away...
"Jeez! Will you bums leave me alone? I'm working on my term paper and
don't have time to be bothered by you bozos." says Johnny East who in
fact is not working on his term paper, but is instead writing a story
that he plans to submit to an Internet site called Fictionmania. The
tirade that he isaiming at his roommates meant to keep them at bay so
they will not look at what he is doing.
Which is writing a short fictional story about a guy who visits a wizard
in a Mall and ends up being turned into a blonde bimbo, writing in the
first person, as if it were taking place right at that minute Johnny for
sure did not want the clowns he shared a dorm room with to find out
about his hobby.
All the other two guys wanted to know was where the babe wearing only a
red satin bra and panties had come from while Johnny is starting to
wonder where the draft he is feeling has come from.
While back at the party...
"It's LSD, LSD or something like it I'm telling you!" pronounces Madonna
in her effected English accent, or perhaps in this case real, as Sam
Edgington who now seems to be Madonna, was born in England.
"It was the light, the light from God..." pipes in a tiny voice as a
lavender fairy, no more than 17 inches high, and supported in the air by
barely visible buzzing wings that trail golden sparkles as she floats by
the leather clad pop star, till she landa, seemingly weightless, atop
the fruit piled head of a petite Latina woman, "Its all crazy, Jus crazy
I'm telling Juw!" adds Bob, former husband to the fairy, and presently
lithe South American singing sensation of a bygone era.
"AAAHHH!" Remarks Carries husband James, who at a height of 7 feet, 6
and a half inches, now towers over her, "Fight BAD! Go HOME! Olsen twins
looking at James funny!"
"I think that would be a good idea," replies Carrie, scratching at her
new oddly long and still more oddly green nose, "anyway that guy in the
Chewbacka costume... I mean the guys who's a Wookey now tried to make a
pass at me a little while ago."
"James smash!" says her flat headed husband, seemingly about to fly off
into a rage.
"That's really more something the Hulk would say dear," says Carrie,
corecting him, "anyway I made some kind of gesture at him and I think I
turned him into a Ewok, and when that girlfriend of his, Princess
whatshername, came at me I somehow turned her into a dwarf then knocked
them both out, and I don't want to be around then they wake up, things
are too weird here as it is, anyway... I'm worried about the boys, let's
get home. "Home goooood." says James. agreeing with her.
And at Garuman's Chinese Theater..... The film stopped, a crowd mills
about in the lobby, some are in western clothing, others are spot bits
and pieces, or whole outfits from different eras of Chinese history, all
however are excited, & confused.
The manager wanting to call someone in the authorities, he just can't
think of who you should in a case like this. Zhang Dai Woo, an exchange
student from Hong Kong, the only person in the theater who was Chinese
before The Wave, and unknown to him or them the template and imagination
Xighulipotup had used to make their transformations, feeling he has to
say something speaks up. "I don't know what this is all about," he says
using Cantonese, his language from birth, and the people he's addressing
for the last 20 minutes or so, "But don't fret, I mean.... you're
healthy, and...." he pauses searching for something to calm some of the
more upset people in the crowd, "and trust me you'll love Chinese New
Year, and Dim Sum.....and.... and... you don't look all THAT different!
Get a grip!"
"That's easy for you to say." Thinks Roy Kennedy still not having worked
up the nerve to tell his girl friend, who is still going thought the
crowd looking for him, what has happened to him, or rather her now.
"somehow I don't think Dim Sum is going to replace what I'm missing
now."
And back at the Waid home...
"You wear mom's clothes?" Nick Waid asks his older brother Danny, his
voice a blend of amazement and contempt, "don't start with me!" replies
the woman who looks and sounds like Carrie Waid, "I... I... like the way
they feel, and... Hell! Look at you, you look like something from a
cheep magazine!" "Takes one to know one!" shoots back Nick, the
exclamation setting her breasts bouncing.
Danny had in fact been sneaking into his parent's room for years and
trying on various items of his mother's clothes. A pair of shoes here, a
dress or two, one time an abandoned pair of leotards and black tights.
But that was all, this night, a time when he knew he would be free to
get away with it for hours for the first time in his life inspired Danny
to say he didn't want to go out that Halloween and opted to stay in, of
course that also meant he would be stuck watching after his little
brother, but as soon as he saw Nick glued to the computer screen he had
headed up his mother's room, locked the door and for the first time in
his life dressed from pantyhose, to shoes, all the way to a dress dress
jacket.
Now here he was, the living image of his mother! A little younger
looking, (the dress was 11 years old, bought when she was 28,) but her
from her feet, to her hair, with the voice in-between.
After Donny had come to that revaluation it wasn't long before he found
out who the slutty looking girl at the homework computer was. It seemed
his brother Nick had his little secret too, forbidden from going into
chat rooms when his mother and father were around the youngest Waid had
taken the opportunity to get in on a few and "mess with the dorks and
losers" found there.
Inspired by a television program he had seen on NBC, he had been
pretended to be a rather improbable teenage girl who called herself
Kitty-Kitty34, his intent to scam some guys into visiting Kitty while
giving them the address of the Lutheran church three blocks down the
street.
He had been doing this, describing Kitty-Kitty34 to a 45-year-old perv
in Burbank, when the Day of Truth wave had sailed though the house,
unnoticed by either of the preoccupied boys.
"Gods mad at both of us," said Danny, "not half as mad as Dad and Mom
are gonna' be when they get back," replied Kitty-Kitty Nick, "and
they'll be around to be able to do something to us about it."
That was when the new females heard the familiar sound of their parental
unit's car drive up into the driveway. Freezing to the spot were they
set the pair just waited for them to walk though the door.
Unknown to them their mother and father were having problems of their
own. With a roar James set back down in the passenger seat after putting
a 3 inch dent into the roof of the car after hitting his head trying to
get out, still not use to handling his having just gained a foot and a
half of height. "Come on big fella' " says Connie helping him out,
"Let's get you up, once all this is settled I want to find out if Mel
Brookes was right about The Monster." To which James replied
"AAAAAHHH?" while Connie conntinued more to herself than to him, "and I
need to practice, I think I want to hex a few of those clowns on the PTA
steering committee, maybe turn them into Muppets or Teletubbies, or
Spice Girls or something."
"aaaaaaa," replied James wondering about that whole Young Frankenstein
thing as they headed for their front door.
Whatever was about to happen, one thing for sure California's population
of family counselors and therapists were in for the start of a very
strange year. While back at a camp outside a strange temple in the
jungle......
"I'm tell you this is weird" says Jeremy Gailand addressing the others
in professor Parkers quickly thrown together expedition, "the back four
lower teeth on my right hand side were replaced with a partial 4 years
ago after I lost them in a rugby scrum, now the partial won't come out,
it's as if my teeth have returned."
"Perhaps this bares investagation, I begin to suppect there is more to
this find than I at first suppected." replies Samula Parker, while the
others just laugh at Gailand's comment, he responding in a more
professorlly maner for once in his carrear of having that title, not all
of the Day of Truths effect being as extream as others.
Meanwhile across the globe...
At speed of around Mach 1.44 the Day of Truth wave glided across the
planet like a translucent amethyst cloak, while it would only last for
24 hours from sundown to sundown radiating out from where it had
started, whatever time it was on the rest of the Earth when it passed
thought it would, at the end that day, find it a very changed world
indeed.
And when, assuming you even notice, that strange mauve light, and funny
feeling flashes through where you are on that October night, or the
first day of November, how will it leave you?
