Chapter 11
After the events of the day Brenda had felt embarrassed. It was so
obvious to everyone except Mario that she was trying to impress him that
when she returned home she removed everything, clothing, makeup, and
tousled her hair to make it less attractive. She found some sweats and
put them on and looked in the mirror. She saw a plain looking girl, not
unattractive, not bad actually, but a girl, none the less. She shook her
head and thought, you've come a long way Matt Watson, a long, long way.
Brenda put on some white cotton ankle socks, white canvass shoes and went
to visit her best friend.
She was seated at the table and asked, "Annie, I have to ask you
something, was it that obvious I was trying to impress someone when I
went to work this morning?"
"Of course it was, and what's wrong with that?" she asked.
"I don't know, I just felt so cheap afterwards."
"Why would you feel cheap?"
"I shouldn't be trying to, you know, trying to impress some guy." Brenda
said, with embarrassment in her voice.
"Why shouldn't you, you're a very pretty young woman and that's what
young women do, impress young men."
"But he already has a girl friend."
"Did you ask him out?"
"Good heavens no."
"Did you throw yourself at his feet?"
"Of course not."
"Then why do you feel you did something wrong?"
"I wanted him to like me and think I was pretty."
"And do you think he thought you were pretty?" Annie asked.
"I don't know, maybe?"
"Maybe?"
"Cheryl said I did. She said he likes me but just doesn't know yet."
"Why would she say that?"
"Because she said it was the first time she had seen him speechless."
"Did you like that?"
"I'm not sure, I could hardly breath when he walked through the door."
"It sounds as though you like this young man very much."
Brenda blushed. "I do," she whispered.
"Is this your first boyfriend?"
"Yes," she whispered again, "And I don't know what to do. He has someone
already and, and, God I'm so confused."
"Brenda honey, don't worry, if it is meant to be then it will happen, he
will ask you out. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, there are other
men in the world and if one asks you out, go, enjoy yourself, you might
find love in the strangest places."
"You're right Annie, I'm being silly, I'm off to bed now, I'll see you
tomorrow."
"Goodnight Brenda."
Brenda rose the next day and was a bit more subdued with her choice of
clothes to wear to work. A straight above the knee skirt, a lacy off the
shoulder blouse, three-inch heels and an angora sweater was her look.
Today she wasn't going to look like a slut on the make, she just wondered
if Mario would notice her?
Brenda arrived at work and let Carla know she was there. Brenda started a
second list of people to be investigated so they could or wouldn't be
eliminated from a list of suspects. Her first list was one that listed
anyone that came through the door, but now she knew who should be
investigated.

Each person brought some kind of package when they came to the business
and might be the source of the drugs the girls were using.
Brenda looked at the list and it wasn't complete. She didn't want to add
the name, what if he was the one that was the source, he couldn't be, not
him. With much trepidation and sadness Brenda wrote the last name, Mario
