Chapter 1
"I can't believe we're doing this," said eighteen-year-old Tasha Briggs.
"Neither can I; it's so stupid," interjected Nick Kester.
"Don't be a wet blanket," said his older sister, Joanne, as she looked
up from the book she was reading. "I mean, what's the worst thing that
can happen?"
Nick rolled his eyes and ran his hand through his shoulder length dark
blond hair. "We could set off the smoke alarm...again...we could burn
the house down...we could release a demon."
Joanne playfully punched her younger brother in the arm. "First, I
already pulled the battery from the smoke alarm, so that won't happen...
again, and second, we're just lighting some candles, so we're not going
to burn down the house. I do have a fire extinguisher standing by, just
in case. As for the demon crack, the spell is strictly white magic, so
there will be no demon."
"If you say so, Sabrina," quipped Nick.
Joanne smirked and shook her dead in mock disgust. Even though they
appeared to always be fighting, the siblings were actually very close.
"Tell me again what's it suppose to do?" asked Tasha as she leaned over
to examine the different colored candles.
There were seven candles arranged in a circle. Their colors ranged from
pink to violet.
Tasha was tall and athletic, standing nearly six-one. Her blonde hair
was styled short as it was easier to maintain for sports.
"It's supposed to release what's holding the real you back," explained
Joanne. "At least, that's what the book says it's supposed to do. My
friend at the spell shop recommended that I try it."
"And why do we have to try tonight?" asked Nick.
"Tonight is the summer solstice, and it will increase the power of the
spell," explained Joanne.
"Why is that important?" asked Tasha.
"This is an earth spell, and the alignment of the earth to the sun
affects the strength of the spell. Today is one of the most powerful
days of the year," explained Joanne.
"That makes sense. Maybe that means that, if it works, I will make the
starting college tennis team," said Tasha.
She had been an all-state tennis champion in high school and had
recently received a full scholarship to UC San Diego.
"Yes, but you still can't beat me," chided Nick.
Nick, while only five-six and very thin, was also an excellent tennis
player. He had also played on the same high school team as Tasha. He'd
also had a crush on her since eight grade, but they'd never dated, even
though he had asked her out numerous times.
"I just let you win so your feelings wouldn't be hurt," she replied with
a laugh.
"Please! On my worst day I could beat you," he answered.
"Okay, enough! Let's try this," said Joanne.
She was two years older than Nick and was a biology major at UC San
Diego. Her hobby was sorcery, and she was constantly trying out new
spells.
"Okay, okay, so what happens?" asked Nick.
"We all must sit in the chalk circle that I've drawn here on the floor.
Next, I'll light each candle and then sprinkle this dust on them," she
explained. "If the spell works, all inside the circle will be affected."
They were currently sitting on the floor of the Joanne's bedroom. The
throw rugs had been set aside so she could draw the chalk circle on the
wooden floor.
"Okay, let's do it," said Tasha.
Nick shrugged his shoulders and sat down inside the chalk circle with
his sister and Tasha. Over the years he had participated in his sister's
attempts at casting spells, and although she had always been
unsuccessful, however he hoped she would one day cast a real spell.
Nick loved playing the role of the annoying younger brother, but deep
down he really loved his sister.
Joanne carefully lit each candle in the order that the book prescribed.
Next, she sprinkled the dust that she had mixed the night before over
each candle.
When the mixture hit the flames, it sizzled and sparked. A different
colored plume of smoke rose from each candle, blue, red, green, orange
and finally pink.
"What now?" asked Tasha.
"That's it; we just have to sit here until the candles burn down; it
should only take thirty minutes or so," replied Joanne. "The spell book
says that we should see changes in our lives soon."
"Define soon," stated Nick.
"Beats me, a few days, a few weeks, your guess is as good as mine,"
replied Joanne.
"I hope it works," replied Tasha. "Does anyone feel any different?"
They all looked at each other. No one noticed any immediate difference.
"Well, it may take time; I mean, it's not like we're going to be changed
instantly," said Joanne. "I know I did this one right."
"I'll keep a positive attitude that it will work," said Tasha.
"It still won't help you beat me," said Nick.
"I wish she would... just to shut you up," interjected Joanne. "I mean,
I'm so sick of hearing how a woman can't beat a man. I think Venus
Williams could beat you pretty easily."
"I'm never said a professional couldn't beat me, just not any of the
girls around here," said Nick with a grin. "I've also never lost to any
of the girls on the team, and I've never lost to Tasha."
"Okay, this sounds like a challenge," said Tasha.
"Does that mean you'll take me on?" asked Nick as a grin appeared on his
face.
Tasha nodded.
"Okay, then let's make it more interesting. If I win, you have to go out
with me...a real date, not just hanging out like we've done in the
past," said Nick.
Tasha rolled her eyes. "Fine! But if I win....damn, I can't think of a
good wager!"
"Ooooh, I know!" exclaimed Joanne. She then leaned over and whispered
into Tasha's ear.
Tasha broke out laughing. "I love it!"
"What?" asked Nick as he glared at his sister.
"Worried, little brother?" asked Joanne.
He shook his head. "Nope, what's the bet?"
"I think you need a lesson in gender roles; so if I win, you have to
agree to be dress as a woman for two weeks!" said Tasha.
"And this means completely...hair....nails....makeup... the works!"
added Joanne as she counted each item off on her fingers.
"Two weeks?" he asked.
"Worried?" asked Tasha.
"No, I know I'll win," he replied. "But I only asked for one date. I
think I should get at least three out of the deal now."
"Okay, three dates, so when do we play?" asked Tasha. "It's too late for
today; we'd never get a court. They're always crowded in the evening."
"Make it tomorrow," said Joanne. "That way I can call up Cassie and have
an appointment for my dear little sister, Nicole."
"I'm not going to lose, but if you want to waste your time calling your
friend at the salon, go ahead," said Nick. "You can have Tasha go in my
place so she looks nice for our dates."
"Now, I know I'm going to kick your butt," said Tasha with a smile.
"I'll call now and see if I can get a court."
Chapter 2
"Man, I hope you don't lose tomorrow. So what time are you playing?"
asked Cody Wayne, Nick's best friend.
"I'm not going to lose," replied Nick. "Tasha got a court for three in
the afternoon tomorrow."
They were sitting in Cody's bedroom and were watching the Padres play on
TV.
"Yeah, but if you do, will you keep your word?" Cody asked.
Nick looked at his friend and nodded. "I always keep my word, but
there's no way I will end up dressing as a girl for two weeks; I've
never lost to Tasha."
Cody nodded. He was much taller than Nick and much more muscular, having
played football. The two boys had been friends since second grade, and
Cody knew how badly Nick wanted to date Tasha.
"I hope you're right," Cody said. "Still, I remember you being a pretty
cute girl. You dressed up as one twice for Halloween if I remember
right, both times in middle school.
Nick held up three fingers.
"That's right; you dressed up as a cheerleader for the school party last
year!" stated Cody. "I hate to tell you this, but you fooled a lot of
guys that night. If you do it for two weeks, things could get
interesting."
"I won't lose," Nick said.
"Two weeks, a lot could happen," continued Cody.
"I'm not losing," replied Nick.
"You know, if you do, maybe I'll ask you out on a date," said Cody with
a laugh.
"That is so wrong on so many levels," said Nick.
Chapter 3
The match took place the next day as planned. It was a typically
beautiful June afternoon in San Diego, sunny with a nice cool breeze
blowing in from the Pacific. The only thing atypical in Nick's mind was
the way he was playing.
Nick couldn't remember playing so badly in his entire life. While Tasha
was playing well, he couldn't hit a shot to save his life. Normally, he
would have easily beaten her, and if just some of his shots had fallen
right, he still would be winning today.
Normally, his serve was the best part of his game. It wasn't that it was
strong, just extremely accurate. Today he had double-faulted more times
that he could remember.
Cody was sitting next to Joanne watching the match.
"Are you really going to make him go through with it?" he asked.
Joanne nodded. "He needs to be taught a lesson, but it's Tasha's
decision."
"How far are you going to take it?"
Joanne looked at her watch. "We have a full salon treatment waiting for
him...make that HER... in two hours. You have to admit that Nicole
deserves this."
Cody smiled and nodded. "For such a skinny guy, he sure is cocky. What
will your mom say about this?"
"She's out of town. I called and told her, and she laughed, but also
told me to take it easy...she also asked for photos."
Cody also laughed. "Man, I never thought I'd see him play so
badly...it's almost like he's trying to lose."
Nick stared across the court at Tasha as she prepared to serve.
"This is match-point, right, Nicole?" asked Tasha.
Nick nodded and cringed at being called Nicole.
"I guess she's going through with it," said Cody to Joanne.
"You're right," said Joanne with a chuckle.
Tasha served and Nick was just able to return her shot, but it left him
in no position to return her next shot, and just like that the match was
over.
Nick couldn't believe he had lost and just stared at his racket. It
wasn't the racket's fault he had lost and he saw no need to punish it
for his lousy play. Taking a deep breath, he headed to the net to
congratulate Tasha.
"So, you're not going to really make me dress up as a girl?" he asked
meekly.
Tasha nodded, "You would have made me go on a date, right?"
"Yes," he replied meekly.
"A bet is a bet, right, Nicole?" she asked.
His shoulders slumped as the reality of his defeat sunk in.
"Okay, well, it looks like you're going to be Nicole for two weeks," she
said.
Chapter 4
Cassie had been doing Joanne's hair for ten years. She found it very
funny that she would be transforming Joanna's younger brother into a
woman.
Actually, she had experience in this, as she had several transgendered
clients. As a concession, she agreed to do her magic on Nick after
regular hours. She did give him credit for going through with the bet.
Joanna, Tasha, and a very timid looking Nick arrived at the salon a
little after six.
Nick was dressed in running shorts, a t-shirt, and a pair of sandals.
"Well, I have some shopping to do," said Joanna. "Do you want to help
me, Tasha, or do you want to stay here?"
"I'll go with you. I think I should have a say in what Nicole is
wearing," said Tasha.
"How long will it take, Cassie?" asked Joanne.
"Give me three hours," she replied as she examined Nicole.
"Okay, we'll be back at nine," said Tasha. "Have fun."
"Very funny," replied Nicole, accepting that this would be her name for
the next two weeks. When punishment is inevitable, it was best to just
accept it and get it over, she thought. Fine, for the next two weeks,
I'll be a girl.
"I was talking to Cassie," said Tasha with a grin.
After the two girls left, Cassie led Nicole into the back.
"Okay, Nicole, we'll start by waxing your body. Judging by what I see,
this won't take very long, you don't have a lot of body hair," said
Cassie.
"Do you have to?"
Cassie nodded. "You're the one who made the bet. Besides, by the time
I'm done with you, no one will recognize you as a boy. You have very
neutral features. I'm glad to see that your ears are pierced, that means
I won't have to do it. Actually, I think it's pretty good that you're
going through with the wager, many guys wouldn't. Well, why don't you
undress, and we'll get started."
Chapter 5
Nicole sat in the salon chair reading the fashion magazine that Cassie
had given her to read. She was wearing a short white cotton robe. The
sensation of having a smooth body was rather interesting, and she found
herself rubbing her legs together.
Her hair was currently being dyed. Cassie wouldn't tell her the color,
as she preferred to keep it a secret. He had objected, but Cassie
convinced him that it would look great and that she would be able to
make him look a like a guy again when the bet was over. It helped when
she showed him several before and after photos of men who'd had their
hair dyed.
The smell of the hair dye was very strong, but all Nicole could do was
sit there and wait.
She was also curious to see what her eyebrows looked like, as Cassie had
waxed and shaped them.
"Okay, let's get to your nails," said Cassie. "I guess I'll start with
your toes."
Nicole had never had a pedicure in her life, and she watched in
fascination as Cassie worked.
"What color are you going to use?" asked Nicole.
"I have a nice pearl tone pink that will look very cute on you."
"Pink?" asked a horrified Nicole.
"It's a subtle color, my dear. Trust me, I want you to look good," said
Cassie.
"Sorry," replied Nicole. "I'm still in shock that this is happening."
"You're going to look lovely. Seriously, I doubt anyone will make you."
"Make me?" asked Nicole.
"Sorry, that's a TG term," said Cassie as she applied the polish. "It's
when someone realizes your true gender."
"Oh...what does TG mean?"
"Transgendered, do you know what that means?" asked Cassie.
Nicole nodded.
"Anyway, I have quite a few clients who are TG. You know, with hormones,
you'd make a really cute girl."
"This is only for two weeks," said Nicole.
"Okay, if you say so," replied Cassie.
Nicole cocked her head. "What do you mean by that?"
"It's probably nothing, but I've helped quite a few men transform, and
there's a feeling I get from the ones who are TG as opposed to those who
are just cross-dressing. I guess I'm talking too much, but...I just
sense that you are more comfortable with all this than you're letting
on. I just wanted you to know that I can always help you."
Nicole stared back and slowly shook her head. "This is only for two
weeks."
"Okay, if you say so. Well, let me get to your fingernails."
Chapter 6
Nicole stared at her fingers and her newly shaped and polished nails.
Cassie had applied tips to make them longer. The color was a light
coral, which Cassie explained looked great with Nicole's hair color.
Cassie was finishing up styling Nicole's hair. She was pleased with how
it had come out.
"I'm not going to apply a lot of makeup tonight; you can ask your sister
and Tasha to help you tomorrow. I did pick out a nice selection for you,
which will go perfectly with your new hair color," said Cassie.
"Okay," replied Nicole softly.
Cassie applied a little eye shadow and some lipstick. It was amazing how
feminine Nicole looked, she thought. She kept her mouth shut as she
could tell that Nicole was tired of hearing about it. Still, there was
no denying it; Nicole was very cute.
"You ready to see what you look like?" asked Cassie.
Nicole nodded, almost afraid to answer.
Cassie swung the chair around, and Nicole's eyes opened wide.
Her normally straight hair was full of large curls. It was also now a
light brown, with streaks of blonde throughout.
"This is a great color and style for you," said Cassie proudly.
"This is really me?" asked Nicole softly. She was shocked how feminine
she looked.
"Yes, what do you think?"
Nicole didn't know what do say. She ran her fingers along her now thinly
arched eyebrows. They had been dyed to match her hair.
"I don't look like me."
"That was the goal," said Cassie. "It'll help you avoid problems with
people who don't know about the bet."
"I really look like a girl....holy crap," said Nicole.
"I'll take that as a compliment," replied Cassie with a laugh.
There was a knocking at the front door.
"That should be the other girls; I'll be back," said Cassie.
"Other girls...." mumbled Nicole as she stared at her new look.
Chapter 7
"I'll help you get dressed," said Cassie. "I asked Tasha and Joanne to
wait out there."
She set down some bags and began to sort through them. She pulled out a
pair of panties and a bra. She then handed them to Nicole.
"Okay, put these on...you can go into the bathroom," said Cassie.
Nicole took the items and left without a word.
The panties and bra were both white. Nicole noticed the bulge of her
cock as she looked in the mirror and reached down and tucked in between
her legs. She then stopped and wondered how she knew to do that.
The bra fit, but the cups were empty. Nicole suspected that Cassie would
have something to fill them.
She left the bathroom and rejoined Cassie.
"Very nice. Here. Slip these in your bra," said Cassie.
Nicole held the silicone breast forms in her hands.
"They're only C-cup,'" said Cassie. "I'm a D-cup."
Nicole slipped them in her bra. The added weight was a shock. The breast
forms actually bounced as she moved.
Cassie reached over and helped Nicole adjust the bra straps.
"Thanks," replied Nicole meekly.
"They look perfect....just the right size," said Cassie. "Now, here's
your top and skirt."
It would be a skirt, thought Nicole.
The oufit was a green sleeveless t-shirt and a short denim skirt.
Nicole put on the clothes, and Cassie helped her straighten out her
skirt.
The final touches were a pair of dangling silver earrings, a necklace,
watch, several silver rings, and bracelets. For shoes there were some
sandals.
"Come on, your sister and girlfriend will want to see you," said Cassie.
Nicole was about to correct Cassie, but then she realized that Cassie
hadn't misspoken. Nicole was now one of the girls.
"Great, she'll probably want me to double date with her," said Nicole.
Chapter 8
Nicole had half expected Tasha and Joanne to break up in laughter when
she came out to the waiting area, but instead the two girls just stared
in silence at her.
"Well?" she asked as she stood with her hands on her hips.
"You look great!" said Tasha. "I'm stunned."
"I agree, little sister," added Joanne. "I wouldn't have recognized
you."
"Look, can I ask one concession?" asked Nicole.
"What is it?" asked Joanna.
"Can you tell people I'm your cousin or something? I mean, I don't want
everyone in town to know about this."
Joanna looked at Tasha, who nodded.
"Okay, that would be cool. I mean, we want you to live as a girl for the
whole two weeks; so fine, you're my cousin Nicole visiting from out of
town," said Joanna.
"Thanks," replied Nicole.
Tasha smiled. "I can't believe how feminine you look. Cassie, you did a
great job."
"I agree," said Joanna as she handed Cassie her credit card
"It was my pleasure," replied Cassie. "I hope to see you again soon,
Nicole."
Chapter 9
Nicole was slightly relieved that they were going directly back to the
house. She wasn't quite ready to go out.
Once inside the house, Tasha and Joanna led Nicole to her room.
Nicole gasped in shock when she saw what they had done.
The room had undergone a transformation of its own. The bed was made up
with floral pattern sheets and comforter.
All of her male clothing was gone.
"We can't have you cheating, but after what Cassie did to you, we had
nothing to worry about; you look so feminine, little sister," said
Joanna.
Nicole opened up some of the drawers and found that they only had
women's clothes in them.
"You are aware that this is just for two weeks?" said Nicole as she
looked at all the clothes. "I mean, there's enough stuff here for me to
change a couple of times a day!"
"Maybe," said Tasha.
Nicole turned and looked at Tasha, who was smiling.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm going to give you an opportunity to change back. I mean, you've
been such a good sport so far," said Tasha.
"Go on," said Nicole suspiciously. She suspected something was up.
"We play tennis again, if you win, you can change back, and I'll even go
out on that date," said Tasha.
Nicole hesitated for a moment. "What's the catch?"
Joanna walked over to the closet and pulled out a white tennis dress.
"You must wear this during the match," said Joanna
"Okay, I'm already wearing a skirt," said Nicole as she stared at the
dress. The hemline was really short.
"Also, if you lose, you stay like this the rest of the summer," said
Tasha. "I mean, two weeks is hardly long enough to get an idea of what
it's like to be a woman."
"The rest of the summer?" asked a shocked Nicole.
"Sure, why not?" asked Joanna. "Look, little sister, you've had a bit of
a sexist streak for as long as I can remember. It ranges from silly to
annoying. Especially when you consider you aren't exactly the most
masculine guy."
"Do you feel the same way, Tasha?" asked Nicole.
"I like you, but you can be a bit overbearing. I think this may be good
for you," she said.
"Nicole, we don't hate you, but this is our way of redeeming you," added
Joanna.
This was so strange; she couldn't remember either of them being so
assertive before, Nicole thought. "Fine, when do you want to play?"
"In two days," said Tasha. You should get used to playing in a dress
before we play for real. Oh, since it will be an all female match, we'll
use women's rules."
Nicole nodded. "Sounds fair."
"Why don't we play tomorrow morning?" suggested Tasha.
"Okay, what time?" asked Nicole.
"Let's play early, before it gets too crowded, say seven?"
"Okay," replied Nicole, relieved that they would be playing early.
"Great," said Tasha. She then gave Nicole a hug. "I think this is really
cool."
Joanna also gave Nicole a hug. "I don't hate you, Nicole."
"I know," said Nicole.
Chapter 10
The next morning Joanna helped Nicole get ready for her practice match
against Tasha.
Nicole looked in her mirror at her reflection. She couldn't believe that
she was wearing a tennis dress.
"I wish these weren't so big," complained Nicole, referring to her
breasts.
"Now you know what Tasha and the other girls on the team have had to
deal with," said Joanna. "At least you're wearing a sports bra; that
will help a lot, trust me on that."
"The dress is a little tight; I mean, it shows off everything,"
continued Nicole. "It's also very short...too short, I had no idea these
things were so revealing."
"You look great in it," said Joanna.
"This sucks," replied Nicole. "This...what the hell is it called...."
"Your gaff?" interjected Joanne.
"Yeah, my GAFF; it's not very comfortable," complained Nicole.
"You rather have everyone see your...family jewels?" asked Joanne as she
fought back giggling.
"Point taken," replied Nicole.
"Come, on, I'll drive you to the courts," said Joanna.
"Do I really pass...I mean...I don't look stupid, do I?" asked Nicole.
"No, you don't look silly. In fact, you look really cute. I seriously
doubt anyone will know you're your true gender," said Joanna.
The drive to the courts only took ten minutes. Nicole saw Tasha and
walked over to meet her. She was shocked when she saw Cody sitting in
the stands.
"Who told him we were playing?" demanded Nicole.
"I did; besides, what's the harm? He knew you lost," said Tasha with a
shrug. "Don't worry, he knows your cover story and has promised to play
along."
Cody waved to Nicole, who waved back.
"Okay, I promise to take it easy on you," said Tasha. "By the way, you
look really cute in that dress."
Nicole felt her face turning red as she blushed.
Chapter 11
Tasha beat Nicole even worse than their previous match.
Nicole found out very quickly that her breasts forced her to change her
stroke. She was also very self-conscious about wearing the tennis dress.
The prospect of spending the summer as a girl loomed large.
Nicole found herself doing something that she hadn't done since she was
six; she started using a two hand stroke.
"I know you were struggling, Nicole, but you seemed to be improving near
the end," said Tasha. "Why don't we practice again tomorrow morning?"
Nicole wiped her face with a towel. "Thanks, I'd appreciate that."
"It's not so easy, is it?" asked Tasha.
Nicole nodded in agreement. "I had no idea...I'm sorry. I mean, these
dresses don't leave much to the imagination."
"Good, you're learning. Now, why don't we meet at eleven for lunch?"
"Okay," replied Nicole.
"Great, I'll pick you up," said Tasha, who picked up her gear and
started to walk away.
"Wait! Where are we going?"
"That's a surprise," said Tasha with a smile.
"Great," mumbled Nicole. Still, she felt proud that she had actually
gone out in public in a dress and pulled it off. Other than Cody and
Joanne, no one seemed to know the truth.
Cody was talking to Joanne as Nicole left the court.
"I'll see you at the car," said Joanne as she walked away.
Before Nicole could protest, Cody walked towards her.
"I'm really impressed, Nicole. This took guts," said Cody.
"Thanks," she replied softly. "At least you didn't say balls."
"That was too obvious even for me," replied Cody with a laugh.
Nicole smiled back.
"You did get better near the end," Cody continued.
"Did my sister tell you about the new bet?"
He nodded.
"I'm an idiot," continued Nicole.
"That's true, but I wouldn't worry about it," said Cody.
Nicole wasn't sure, but Cody appeared to be checking her out. She
crossed her arms over her chest.
"So, you promise not to tell anyone about this?" asked Nicole.
Cody smiled. "Sure thing, Nicole. Hey, call me later, and we can talk,
okay?"
Nicole nodded as she brushed her hair back from her eyes.
They walked towards the car.
"Thanks," said Nicole.
"No problem; well, I'll see you later," he said. "Bye, Nicole."
Nicole got into the car and didn't say a word.
"What's the matter?" asked Joanna as they pulled out of the parking lot.
"I think Cody was checking me out!" she complained.
Joanna didn't say anything.
"Okay, I'm just overreacting, right?"
Joanna still didn't say anything.
"Joanna, please say something! Tell me that I'm just imagining it."
"He was checking you out," she said in a matter of a fact way.
"That's sick!"
She then remembered how Cody had joked about asking her out on a date
and wondered if he was serious.
Joanna laughed. "Why? Just because he knows you're a guy? Get used to
guys looking at you, little sister; you're pretty cute."
Nicole slumped down in her seat. "Great!"
Chapter 12
Nicole was dressed in a short tan skirt and a short sleeve white cotton
top when Tasha came to pick her up.
"You look nice; did you do your own makeup?" asked Tasha.
"Please!"
"She's going to learn," interjected Joanne. "There's no way I'm going to
make her up for the rest of the summer; I mean, we had to learn how to
do it."
"That's true, especially when you lose to me this week," added Tasha.
"I'll beat you," said Nicole softly.
Tasha immediately noticed the change in the tone of Nicole's voice.
There was apprehension, none of the usually cockiness. Maybe Nicole was
changing after all.
"So, where are we going?" asked Nicole.
"I figured we'd drive downtown and go to Horton Plaza for lunch and
shopping. It's thirty miles away, so I doubt we'll run into anyone we
know."
Nicole nodded. "Thanks."
Chapter 13
On the way down the I-5 towards downtown San Diego, Tasha and Nicole
talked. Tasha insisted on driving. She kidded Nicole about how bad it
would be if she got pulled over and the police asked for her license.
Nicole reluctantly agreed to be the passenger.
"You know, I'm still surprised that you didn't enroll in the fall
semester," said Tasha.
"I just wanted some time off before starting school. I've been accepted
for the spring semester," she replied.
"Sounds like a good idea; you'll need some adjustment time after the
summer...I mean, getting used to being a guy again won't be easy."
"I'm going to beat you," said Nicole. Even she wasn't sure about what
she was saying. "Let's talk about something else, okay?"
"Okay," replied Tasha. "So, what do you want to talk about? The latest
fashions....boys?"
"That's not funny," said Nicole, remembering how Cody had checked her
out earlier that day.
"It wasn't meant to be," said Tasha.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Nicole, slightly annoyed.
"Look, when I win, you're going to be spending the rest of the summer as
a girl; consider this a chance to see things from a different set of
eyes. I mean, what's the harm?"
"But I don't like boys," said Nicole.
"How do you know?" asked Tasha. "I mean, Nick doesn't like boys, but
you're not Nick; you're his cousin Nicole at least for the next two
weeks...and maybe longer."
"Come on, that's not funny," said Nicole.
"Look, I'm just saying you can explore and try new things. I mean, boys
are pretty nice," said Tasha.
"It's not the same, I mean if the roles were reversed would you date a
girl?" asked Nicole.
"Maybe," replied Tasha with a shrug.
"Well, I still want to date you," said Nicole.
"Sorry, but I'm not into girls," replied Tasha as she laughed.
"Very funny, Okay, what's the reason why you always turned me down when
I asked you out?" asked Nicole.
"Do you really want to know?" asked Tasha.
"Yes," replied Nicole.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but I've always seen you as a brother."
Nicole let out a soft curse, being considered a brother was the kiss of
death for dating. "Is that all?" she asked.
"No, please don't take this the wrong way, but I like boys who are
taller," she replied. "I mean, being tall, it's more comfortable...
sorry."
"Oh," Nicole said. "Well, thanks for being honest."
"Don't get me wrong, Nicole, I like you a lot; that's why I've put up
with your shit all these years. Also, the fact that you used to always
beat me gave me the drive to be a better player."
"You mean that?"
"Yes," she replied. "I never told you, as I didn't want to give you the
satisfaction."
"I wish I had known this before," Nicole replied.
"It's weird, but I was always afraid to be honest with you; I was afraid
that you wouldn't listen," said Tasha. "I was also afraid of pissing you
off and losing you as a friend. But now, I suddenly feel more
confident."
"And now, because I'm in a skirt you can talk to me?"
She shook her head. "It's not that. I mean, it is easier to talk to you
now...we're more or less equals now."
"Oh," replied Nicole. "Have I changed that much?"
"To be honest? Yes," said Tasha. "I know you've only been dressing like
this for a day, but I prefer you like this."
"Really?" asked Nicole.
"Yes, and that's why I plan on kicking your butt on the court," she
added with a laugh.
Nicole didn't reply.
"What's the matter, don't you think you can beat me now?"
"To be honest....no....but I'll try," said Nicole.
Chapter 14
After grabbing some lunch at the food court on the top level of the
downtown shopping mall, Tasha led Nicole through various stores.
To Nicole's shock, she found that she was actually enjoying herself. As
Nick, shopping was a necessary evil, but with Tasha it was fun.
"You'd look really good with additional studs in your ears," said Tasha.
"I'm happy with one hole in each ear," replied Nicole.
"When I win, will you do it?" asked Tasha.
Nicole thought about it. "Only if you do too."
"Deal!" replied Tasha.
Nicole just sighed. "You tricked me into that pretty easily."
"I just think that you're enjoying this more than you're letting on,"
said Tasha.
Just then Nicole's cell phone rang. "I'll forget you said that!" said
Nicole as she answered her phone.
"Hey, little sister, just wanted to let you know that Mom is coming home
early," said Joanne.
"When?" asked Nicole.
"Tomorrow," replied Joanne. "She said the conference ended early."
Their mom was a financial planner and had been attending a conference in
Chicago. Their father had divorced her ten years ago, and was remarried
and living in Tampa.
"I thought she was going to stay longer and see some friends," stated
Nicole.
"She changed her mind; I think she just wants to see her new daughter,"
said Joanne.
"Great," replied Nicole. She had been hoping to escape being seen face-
to-face by her mom. The numerous photos Joanne had taken were bad
enough.
"She knows all about the cover story; she thinks it's pretty amusing,"
continued Joanne.
"Okay, thanks for the heads up," said Nicole.
"No problem. Hey, why don't you pick up some chicken breasts on the way
home? We can barbecue them," said Joanne.
"That sounds good," said Nicole. She then asked Tasha if she wanted to
join them.
"I'll get three; Tasha is joining us," said Nicole.
"Only one for you?" asked Joanne. "You usually have at least two."
"I'm not that hungry," she replied honestly.
"You okay?" asked Joanne.
Nicole laughed. "To be honest, I'm not sure...this is all pretty
strange."
"We'll talk when you get here," said Joanne.
"Okay, see you later," replied Nicole.
Chapter 15
"Did she act normally when you were out?" asked Joanne as she marinated
the chicken.
Tasha nodded. "As normal as can be expected. Do you think we've gone too
far?"
"I don't know," replied Joanne. "I mean, I look at her and I have a hard
time imagining that she's really a boy."
"I know what you mean; with each passing moment, she seems to be more
and more at ease with her situation," said Tasha.
"Do you think you'll beat her again?"
Tasha nodded. "Her game has changed dramatically. I mean, I suppose it's
just due to getting used to her breasts and all that, but she didn't
play her usual aggressive style."
"Let's keep an eye on her," said Joanne. "I mean, I have no problem
putting Nick through some shit, but I don't want to be cruel either."
"I agree," said Tasha who looked out the kitchen window at Nicole, who
was starting up the grill. "She's sure cute though. I noticed boys
looking at her when we were at Horton Plaza. It's funny to think that
they couldn't tell the truth about her."
------
Nicole was lost in own thoughts as she lit the gas grill. Unless a
miracle happened, she knew she would lose to Tasha. It was silly, as she
knew that she was still a guy; yet, she felt weaker. Today, when she
played Tasha, her serves were terrible. Tasha had no trouble returning
them. Nicole shook her head as she remembered how she had to switch to
using both hands to swing her racket; at least when she did that, she
had some success against Tasha.
She now knew what it must have been like to play against Tasha in school
tournaments. With her height advantage, Tasha was very hard to beat.
When she was Nick, she was able to get into Tasha's mind, but those days
were over. It was obvious that Tasha saw her as a girl now, and Tasha
just wasn't intimated by another girl.
Nicole debated asking for a truce and maybe to make a deal, but there
was something inside of her that prevented this. What was strange was
that there was part of her that now accepted her feminine status. It
came and went, and it wasn't very strong, but it was growing. Nicole
figured that she could hold it off for two weeks....but not all summer.
She then thought about what Cassie had said to her in the salon. What
had she seen?
Okay, it was true that she had dressed up as a girl a few times for
costume parties, but she had never wanted to be a girl. No, that wasn't
exactly true. She envied the way her sister and mom got along. As Nick,
the relationship with Mom was different...more distant. She wondered how
Mom would react when she saw her.
This was becoming very confusing, thought Nicole. It's as if my whole
world was changing, and I'm just along for the ride, she thought.
"Hey, is the grill ready?" asked Joanne.
Nicole snapped out of her daydreams. "Yes, bring the chicken out."
Chapter 16
After dinner, Joanne lit a fire in the chiminea and the three sat
outside and talked. The fire inside the clay fireplace provided the
only light on the deck. Joanne and Nicole's mom had bought it on a trip
to Mexico the previous summer.
Nicole noticed that the strangest thing about the evening was how normal
it all felt. It was weird, but in many ways she was fast becoming one of
the girls. It was hard to believe that she had only been dressed as a
girl for a short time.
Both Tasha and Joanne noticed the change in Nicole, but neither said
anything. They were also noticing changes in their own personalities.
Tasha, while having great athletic talent, had always felt a bit
insecure about her life in general, but now she felt invigorated. She
talked about how much she was looking forward to starting college.
"I know that I'm not good enough to go pro, but I can use my scholarship
to its full advantage," she stated.
"What do you want to study?" asked Joanne. "It's okay if you don't know;
many people change their majors."
"I want to become a teacher and coach. I really like the idea of
teaching kids, both academically and athletically," replied Tasha.
"When did you decide this? I mean, last week you said that you had no
idea of what you wanted to do and that you just wanted to make it
through your first semester without failing out," said Nicole.
Tasha shrugged her shoulders. "To be honest, the idea just came to me in
the last couple of days. But I think it's the career for me."
"Good for you," said Joanne. "I'm thinking of a change myself."
"What do you mean?" asked Nicole.
"Well, I originally wanted to get my degree and then apply for med
school, but I've changed my mind. I want to switch majors to business,"
she replied.
"Why is that?" asked Tasha.
"I have a friend who owns the shop where I buy my spell books and other
things, she mentioned to me back in the spring that she was looking for
a partner. I called her this afternoon, and she's still interested,"
replied Joanne. "I mean, it will be the best of both worlds. I'll have a
job and I'll get to indulge my interest in magic."
"What do you think Mom will say?" asked Nicole.
"I plan on telling her as soon as she comes home. I figure she'll be too
distracted by her new daughter," replied Joanne with a laugh.
Nicole playfully punched Joanna in the arm. "Very funny."
"Wait a second, do you think that the spell you cast this week may have
actually worked?" asked Tasha.
Nicole and Joanne turned to her.
"I mean, we've all changed," said Tasha.
"You're right," noted Joanne.
"Except, I never wanted to be a girl," interjected Nicole.
"You sure?" asked Joanne with a wink.
"I mean, the way you played the first time, it was almost like you tried
to lose," said Tasha.
"Okay, I admit that I played like crap, but it wasn't my idea for the
wager," said Nicole. "How do you explain that, Sabrina?"
Joanne stuck her tongue out at Nicole for the Sabrina crack.
"She's got a point, Joanne," said Tasha. "We came up with that."
"Wait a second, when the bet was made....we were all still in the
circle. I mean, I've thought of some ways to get back at you over the
years, but having you dress as a girl wasn't one of them. I have no idea
where that came from," said Joanne. "The spell must have influenced me."
"Be honest, Nicole, have you ever wished you were a girl?" asked Tasha.
Nicole thought about her answer. "Not really, I mean, everyone wonders
what it would be like...but I was happy as a guy."
"You did dress up a few times over the years," interjected Tasha. "You
also looked very feminine when you did; it wasn't like the usual guy in
a dress."
"That was just for Halloween," replied Nicole. "And let's face it; I am
a bit compulsive about detail."
"Are you sure?" asked Joanne.
Nicole nodded, but she wasn't as sure as she had been earlier. "The one
thing that I have wished for is to be as close with Mom as you have
been, Joanne. I sometimes thought that if I had been a girl instead of a
guy... things might be different."
"But Mom loves you too," said Joanne.
"I know, but she's much closer to you," said Nicole. "I sometimes think
that when Mom sees me she sees a reminder of Dad."
The divorce had been very ugly, and their father had fought all efforts
to pay support. They had once heard him tell their mom that if it hadn't
been for them, the marriage would have been a lot better.
"I had no idea; I'm so sorry, Nicole," said Joanne.
"Do you think that's enough?" asked Tasha.
Joanne shrugged her shoulders. "Look, Nicole, if the spell worked and it
somehow tapped into some repressed feelings to be a girl, you may be in
for a rather rough time. We've both noticed how much more at ease you've
become with each passing minute. I mean, the only time you appear to be
acting is when you try to be a guy."
"You've really noticed a difference?" asked Nicole anxiously.
Both Tasha and Nicole nodded.
"What about you?" asked Tasha. "And be honest."
Nicole didn't immediately answer as she searched her feelings.
"Look, you don't have to answer right now, but try to be aware that you
may be changing. In fact, I suggest that we all start to keep journals
and compare notes," said Joanne.
"Do you think there's any danger?" asked Tasha.
"The spell was only designed to break down the barriers that were
holding us back," said Joanne. She then looked at Nicole. "If it truly
worked, then it should lead us all to better lives. You may find it
impossible to resist these new feelings."
"So it won't physically transform her into a woman, right?" asked Tasha.
"No, but I've seen gender change spells in some of the books," said
Joanna.
"This can't be real," said Nicole.
"Please understand, I have no idea if this is due to the spell," said
Joanne. "I will do some research and ask some of my friends. This was
supposed to be a very safe spell; I've known several other people who
have tried it without adverse affects."
"There's nothing to apologize for," said Nicole. "I'll start worrying if
I lose to Tasha again."
"Do you think we should play again?" asked Tasha.
"It doesn't matter, if Nicole is destined to be a girl, then playing you
won't make any difference," said Joanne.
"What do you mean?" asked Nicole.
"Look, if you win and go back to dressing as a boy, and if you're on the
path to becoming a girl, then you'll find a way to do it. I mean, you
live in a house with two other women, and with your size you can wear
either Mom's or my clothes."
"So, if there was an obstacle, Nicole would just find a different path
to reach her goal," said Tasha.
Joanne nodded. "If the spell truly worked, then the barriers that were
broken down are gone permanently."
"So, you mean I would start sneaking into your room and wearing your
things?" asked Nicole.
"It wouldn't be that hard to do," said Joanne. "I think that it would be
best to monitor what's going on with all three of us. That way we can
keep an eye on each other."
"So it would be best if I won again, right?" said Tasha with a smile.
Nicole laughed. "It's not going to happen."
"Well, just so you know, I plan on playing to win; so you'd better bring
your A-game," stated Tasha.
Chapter 17
Nicole sat at her computer and slowly typed in the word transgendered
into Google. She stared at it for a few minutes before finally starting
the search.
She was amazed by the number of results. Some of the sites were
downright disgusting, and she ignored those. There were a few
interesting fiction sites, and she bookmarked them for another time. It
took her awhile before she found some actually educational sites.
This is silly, she thought. I'm not a girl, but then she remembered what
Cassie had said back in the salon. Then there was what Joanne and Tasha
said. What if she really was on the road to becoming a girl?
If Joanne was right and the spell really was working, then fighting it
was futile. No, Nicole decided to just go on with her life and see what
happened.
Chapter 18
Nicole found that by changing the way she played she had more success
against Tasha. She still lost, but the match was a lot closer.
Tasha noticed the change in Nicole's game and made adjustments, but she
also noted that Nicole was playing more like a girl than a guy. Nicole
was almost exclusively using both hands to hold her racket, something
that she had never done as Nick.
"You ready to try the rematch tomorrow, or do you want to practice some
more?" asked Tasha as they walked off the court.
"I'm good," replied Nicole.
"Nervous about seeing your mom?" asked Tasha.
"A little," replied Nicole. "Joanne is picking her up at the airport. I
have plenty of time to go home and shower and change."
"Do you need help with your makeup?"
Nicole nodded sheepishly.
"Cool, I'll drop you off and then go home and change," said Tasha.
Chapter 19
Nicole picked out a denim skirt and tropical pattern blouse to wear. She
was getting the hang of putting on her bra.
Tasha arrived to help Nicole with her makeup. She did Nicole's eyes, but
then she handed Nicole the lipstick.
"Here, you try it," said Tasha. She then told her what to do.
Nicole tentatively pressed the coral colored lipstick against her lips.
"There, that wasn't so bad," noted Tasha
Nicole nodded as she looked at her reflection as she ran her fingers
through her hair.
They heard the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. Nicole looked
out her bedroom window and saw Joanne and her mom step out of the car.
"They're here," she said nervously.
"You look great, Nicole," said Tasha. "Come on, I'll go down with you."
Jan Kester stepped into the house to see Tasha and a pretty petite girl
walking down the stairs. It took her a second to realize that the girl
was Nick.
"Hi, Mom," said Nicole softly.
"Wow, you look great," said Jan. "Come here and let me see you up
close."
Joanne stepped inside carrying her mother's bags.
Jan ran her eyes over her feminized son and nodded approvingly.
"Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when Joanne told me about this
wager, but I have to admit that you have taken this very seriously. You
really look like a girl, Nick...I mean Nicole," said Jan.
Nicole wasn't sure how to react at first. "Um, thanks."
"I'm serious, you look really good. Who did your hair?" asked Jan as she
continued to inspect her child.
"Cassie," replied Nicole.
"I like the color, and the highlights really suit you," noted Jan. A
large smile grew on her face. She then wrapped her arms around Nicole.
"I'm so proud of you, my dear."
"Why? I mean I would have thought you would be ashamed of me," replied
Nicole.
"No, dear, I'm not ashamed of you. I'm serious about this. It's not that
you look good as a girl, but that you kept your word. It would have been
very easy for you to not follow through with the bet. I'm pleased that
you've kept your word to Tasha," she continued.
"Thanks, Mom," said Nicole. Inside she felt strangely satisfied that she
had pleased her mom.
Chapter 20
They all headed into the kitchen to prepare lunch. Nicole told her mom
about the second part of the bet.
"When will the match be?" asked Jan as she reached into the fridge.
"Tomorrow morning," answered Nicole.
"I wish I could be there," said Jan. "I bet it'll be a great match."
Nicole noticed that her mom didn't ask her if she thought she would win.
Over lunch, the conversation switched back and forth between the
business trip, Joanne's plans for college, and of course Nicole's
status.
"I'm sorry, dear, but I can't help looking at you," said Jan in between
bites of her salad. "I've been trying to figure out who you look like."
"I think she looks like Aunt Carol," said Joanne, referring to Jan's
younger sister.
Jan nodded. "That's it!"
Nicole didn't mind as she had always considered Aunt Carol to be very
attractive.
When lunch was over, Tasha excused herself. "I have some things to take
care of before tomorrow, see you at eight."
"I'll be there," said Nicole.
Chapter 21
Later that evening, Nicole sat in front of her computer, searching some
of the TG sites she had bookmarked the previous evening. She felt drawn
to these sites like a moth to a flame, and it took a great deal of
willpower to log out and go to bed.
It was strange, as she was no longer worried about the outcome of
tomorrow's match. Her mom was very accepting, and that helped ease her
mind.
Downstairs, Jan and Joanne talked about Nicole.
"I'm really amazed ? not just by her appearance, but her demeanor," said
Jan. "I mean, I've seen her dressed before, and while she looked good,
she acted like a boy in a dress. This seems very different."
"You noticed it too, huh?" said Joanne.
"It's hard not to. I can't believe she's changed so much," said Jan.
"You're doing it too," said Joanne. "You're using female pronouns."
"I noticed that myself," answered Jan as she reached for her coffee mug.
"I may be to blame," said Joanne. She then told her mom about the spell.
"Do you think it really worked?" asked Jan. "I mean, I've always allowed
both of you to indulge your interests, but none of your previous spells
have worked."
"I know, but how else do you explain it?"
Jan nodded. "I guess we should be prepared just in case Nick decides to
remain Nicole."
"It wouldn't be too bad; I mean, she's not planning on going to college
until the spring, which would give her time to adjust."
Jan sipped her coffee.
"Do you mind?" asked Joanne.
Jan shook her head. "Honey, I'm a So-Cal girl, nothing like this truly
fazes me...your father will freak, but it will serve him right. Did I
tell you that he's now a Republican? Now if either of you two did that,
I would disown you. Seriously, I just want my children to be happy. I
mean, so my son could become my daughter and you may become a witch; who
cares, just as long as you're both happy."
Joanne laughed. "Actually, I prefer the title of sorceress to witch."
Chapter 22
Nicole warmed up for the match as she usually did. Her competitive
nature was up, and she really wanted to win, even though she was
becoming more and more comfortable with being a girl.
Maybe Joanne was right, and the spell had worked; then that would mean
she was destined to become a girl fulltime, she thought. Then she shook
her head.
"Focus, damnit!" she mumbled aloud. I can accept becoming a girl, but
losing is something that I can't get used to, she thought.
The only people there to watch the match were Joanne and Cody. Nicole
figured that Tasha had invited him to play with her head.
"You ready?" asked Tasha.
Nicole nodded.
They flipped a coin to see who got the first serve. Nicole wasn't overly
superstitious, but she was glad to win and get the initial serve.
Tasha expected Nicole to be very aggressive initially, and so she played
a defense game. When Nicole's initial adrenaline rush died off, Tasha
knew that would be the time to make her move.
Nicole jumped out to an early lead, but gradually, with each passing
set, Tasha took control of the match.
Joanne leaned over to Cody. "Tasha's going to win."
Cody nodded in agreement. "Nicole's playing hard, but Tasha is just the
better player."
He had been watching Nicole intently since the match started. He was
even smiling as he watched Nicole chase down shots.
"You obviously can tell that Nicole is having a gender identity issue,"
said Joanne.
"I sort of figured that out," he replied with a big grin on his face.
"Seriously, she's definitely into this, more than I would have
suspected."
"Cody, I've known you for years, and I like you. You've always been a
good friend of Nick. But it's also obvious that you're very interested
in Nicole. I also realize that she's old enough to make up her own mind
about things. But if you hurt my little sister... you will regret it,"
whispered Joanne. "That's not a threat...it's a promise....I'm not
kidding."
Cody turned and looked at Joanne and saw that she was very serious.
"I'm cool," he said, as held up his hands.
"Good. Nicole is very vulnerable right now, so play nice," warned
Joanne.
He nodded. "So, you're not telling me to not to ask her out?"
"Like I said, Nicole can make her own decisions. I can't stop her, if
she wants to go out with you. Now, are you attracted to her?"
Cody nodded.
"Treat her nicely," said Joanne.
The match lasted another forty-five minutes before Tasha won.
Nicole felt drained as she walked off the court and shook Tasha's hand.
"You played a great match, Nicole," said Tasha.
"You're too good for me now," said Nicole. "The rest of the summer,
right?"
"Only if you want to," said Tasha. "It's up to you."
"Thanks, but I always keep my word."
Tasha leaned over and gave Nicole a hug.
Chapter 23
"Mom said that she'll support my decision to live up to the wager," said
Nicole as she hung up her cell phone. "She said that it showed how
strong I was for going along with the deal."
"I'm not surprised," said Joanne. "So, do you want to go up to the spell
shop with me?"
"No thanks," replied Nicole. "I'm going out with Tasha."
"Okay, have fun," said Joanne.
It took Joanne thirty minutes to reach the shop. She had first found the
store, called Mystical Supplies, when she had been in junior high
school. She had begged her mom for weeks to take her there. From the
moment she first entered, she'd felt at home. Over the years, Joanne got
to know the store's owners and eventually became good friends with the
daughter of the owner.
The woman's name was Shayla, and she was in her mid-twenties. Like all
the women in her family, she had long curly red hair and piercing
emerald colored eyes. Shayla joked that the hair color was a remnant of
a spell that had first given her family their powers.
Shayla never claimed to have magical powers, but she was skilled in
being able to read and translate ancient texts.
While Shayla believed in real magic and mystical powers, she was content
to focus on spells that were designed to help people by enhancing what
was already part of them.
Shayla looked up from behind the counter when the bell attached to the
door rang to announce the entering of a client.
"Hi, Joanne, how're you today?" asked Shayla. She then noticed the
seriousness in the face of her friend. "What's wrong?"
"Is it that obvious?" asked Joanne.
"It doesn't take magical powers to see that you're worried about
something," replied Shayla. "Let's go in the back and have some tea.
Mom, would you watch the front, please?"
Shayla's mother, Alma nodded. "Good to see you, Joanne."
Joanne smiled back. "Thanks."
Shayla led Joanne into the back of the shop. She then put the brass
kettle on the small stove and turned on the burner.
Joanne sat down. "I really messed up."
"What did you do?"
Joanne explained about the spell she had cast and what was happening to
Nick/Nicole.
"What did I do wrong?"
"Nothing," interjected Alma. "Sorry to interrupt, but it's a slow day.
The spell you cast cannot be twisted to do harm."
"So, why is my brother becoming my sister?" asked Joanne.
Alma sat down next to Joanne. "The spell acts as a catalyst to free the
person's hidden potential. It seeks out a part of the person's inner
soul, for the lack of a better term, and uses it to help the person
overcome what's holding them back. I've cast that spell hundreds of
times without adverse effects. The people who I've used it on have
always claimed to be happier."
"Well, Nicole isn't exactly happy," said Joanne.
"Tell me more about Nicole," said Alma.
As Joanne talked, Shayla poured the tea.
"Okay, now tell me about the divorce," ordered Alma.
"It was really ugly," said Joanne. "Basically, Dad started having an
affair when Mom got sick."
"What was wrong with her?" asked Shayla.
"Breast cancer," said Joanne.
"I'm so sorry," said Shayla.
"She's made a full recovery. Anyway, when she was really sick, Dad
started fooling around with a co-worker. I think he thought Mom was
going die, and when she recovered he didn't know how to respond. He
lashed out at all of us. Nick took it really hard," said Joanne.
"Did your father continue to see you?" asked Alma.
"No, he moved away and begrudgingly sent support checks. Mom spent a lot
of time with her lawyer and there were nasty things said. Dad left
really harsh phone messages, and they infuriated Mom."
"And you said that you and your Mom grew close during this time?"
Joanne nodded. "We didn't exclude Nick, but I know he felt left out at
times."
"That explains it then," said Alma. "His feelings of perceived exclusion
were what the spell attached to."
"And my suggestion of the bet's punishment was sparked by the spell,
right?" said Joanne. She wiped away a tear that ran down her cheek.
"This is my fault."
Alma reached over and took Joanne's hand. "You couldn't have known, so
don't blame yourself."
"Yes, but playing around with this stuff did it," said Joanne. She wiped
away another tear.
"Dear, you've developed a strong sense of morality with the spells
you've attempted, no malice was intended. Nick had repressed issues; all
the spell did was bring them out. If it hadn't been for the spell, they
would have festered and eventually burst out," explained Alma.
"But does this mean that Nicole is going to stay a girl?" asked Joanne.
Alma nodded. "From what you've told me, Nicole will choose the path of
becoming a woman. I know this is hard and you blame yourself, but she
will excel in her new life; the spell has a protection aspect to it."
"What do you mean?" asked Joanne.
"Think about it, my dear; when Nicole first dressed, you kidded him, as
did your friend Tasha, right?" asked Alma.
Joanne nodded.
"Then you grew to feel a sense of acceptance and protection, right? You
no longer saw Nicole as your brother, rather you saw her as your sister,
right?"
Again, Joanne nodded.
"That will continue with everyone Nicole comes in contact with. They
will grow to accept her as a woman. She won't have to hide her true
self, as there will be no need to. People, will see Nicole for what she
has to offer, not for her past."
"I see," said Joanne. "I feel better knowing that, thank you. However, I
suppose this means that you're no longer interested in bringing me into
business."
"Why do you think that?" asked Alma. "You successfully cast a very
difficult spell and then showed great concern for someone you thought
your hurt; that's exactly the type of person we want to work with."
Joanne smiled slightly. "Thank you."
"Oh, I have a new book for you to start studying," said Shayla. "It's a
great spell book, although it will force you to start learning Gaelic."
"Okay, thank you," replied Joanne.
"When you can, please bring your sister here; I would love to meet her,"
said Alma.
"I will," said Joanne.
Chapter 24
At the same time that Joanne was heading to the spell shop, Nicole
called Tasha.
"Sorry, Nicole, but I just got a call from my college coach; she wants
to meet me for lunch. I hope you don't mind," said Tasha.
"It's okay, have a good time," replied Nicole. When she hung up the
phone, she got an idea, and she called up Cassie.
"Hi, Nicole, what's up, do you need your nails done?"
"I was wondering if you were free; I need to talk to you," said Nicole.
"It's about that thing you talked to me about."
"Oh," replied Cassie. "Um, I'm free after two. I tell you what, why
don't I stop by and pick you up, okay?"
"That sounds good, thanks," she replied.
Chapter 25
Nicole sat across from Cassie at a local coffee shop located near the
college.
"Before we start, just let me say how nice you look," said Cassie.
Nicole was dressed in a blue tank top, white skirt, and sandals.
Nicole looked around the coffee house, which was half full.
"I'm not dressed any different than anyone else here," said Nicole.
"Exactly," said Cassie. "You blend in perfectly. I doubt anyone suspects
that you're transgendered."
Nicole looked up from her coffee. "Is it that obvious?"
Cassie laughed and nodded. "Nicole, I told you that I've helped some TG
clients, and I've seen some make some remarkable changes, but you exceed
all of them. I've been observing you since I picked you up; you're very
much a girl."
Nicole sipped her coffee without replying.
"So you don't disagree with my observations," continued Cassie.
"No," replied Nicole. She then told Cassie about the second bet and also
about the spell. "I know this must sound crazy to you."
Cassie shook her head. "So Joanne finally got a spell to work, good for
her...oh, I'm sorry that was rather inconsiderate of me."
"It's okay. I'm sort of accepting what is happening to me. I went online
and found some information, but nothing local so far; can you help?"
"Of course," replied Cassie. "I have a whole file of info back at the
salon, ranging from therapists to support groups. We can go back there,
and I'll print you a copy."
"I'd like that," said Nicole. "I'm pretty sure Mom, Joanne, and Tasha
know what's going on, but I still plan on telling them. I wanted to have
some places to go to help me get through this."
"Well, you can count on me," said Cassie.
"Thanks," replied Nicole.
When they got back to the salon, Cassie went to get the file and make a
copy.
Nicole noticed a help wanted sign at the receptionist desk.
The woman sitting behind the desk smiled when she saw Nicole looking at
the sign.
"It's a great job, if you're looking for one," said the woman. "I love
working here, but I have to give it up."
Nicole noticed that the woman was very pregnant.
"When are you due?" asked Nicole, remembering how her mom always asked
that question.
"Next month, but it's not soon enough!" stated the woman with a laugh.
"I'm Nancy."
"I'm Nicole."
Nancy then told Nicole about the job. It sounded pretty simple, just
make appointments and greet all the clients. There was also some
housekeeping, but nothing too difficult. The pay wasn't bad either.
Cassie came out with the file and smiled when she saw Nancy telling
Nicole about the job.
"This would be a perfect job for you, Nicole," said Cassie.
"You think so?" asked Nicole.
Cassie nodded. "I mean, you're not starting college until next year;
this way you can earn some money. Also working here would truly benefit
you."
Nicole scratched her head.
"Look, I'll set up an interview with my aunt; she owns the place, but
I'm sure she'd love you" said Cassie. "So, are you interested?"
"Why not?" said Nicole.
Cassie drove Nicole home and continued to sell her on the job.
"It would be a great environment for you to learn how to be a girl,"
said Cassie. "Who knows, maybe you'll want to go to beauty school
instead of college?"
Nicole laughed. "I don't know about that, but the job sounds good."
"Great, it will fun working w
