Ted had watched me from the kitchen window as I pulled down the

lot alike," Jack questioned.
"Well the resemblance is there that's for sure. They're twins, brother

action while Jack got a strange q1uizzical look on his face. Ted then
added another ding to Jack's psyche. "Wanna hear the weird part? They
both have the same name! I've never heard of that before. Lane spells
his name L-a-n-e. His sister Laine spells her name with an "I," L-a-I-
n-e. Different huh?" Ted finished as if it was no big deal as he moved
to his shop bench and took down a yard rake then his weed eater and got
it ready as well.
"Is Lane helping you with the yard work today or sleeping in?" Jack
continued.
"Well, I'm not sure. He moved out, almost a couple weeks ago now, just
after you left on your trip," Ted said making his final move. Jack then
kicked a few more questions around as Ted continued around the garage
answering them like the two men were playing a verbal game of tennis.
Lane had moved back to his hometown. He wasn't making it selling
electronic gizmos and being tired of being broke and going nowhere he
decided to go back to college. Ted mentioned how he had met "Laine"
earlier through Lane. They'd struck up a conversation and one had thing

through her "brother" Lane she ended up moving out and then moving in as

"She's at the store picking up a few things. We're thinking of doing
something on the grill later. Stop by for a couple beers, we'll do
burgers or something," Ted offered as Jack nodded.
"Sounds like a deal," he said then after watching Ted ready his lawn
tools he got to thinking. "I'd better mow my yard too. Since I've been
gone it's really gotten scruffy looking," Jack said as he gave Ted a
wave and left the garage.
Ted breathed a sigh of relief at seeing Jack leave apparently satisfied
with his mildly quirky story about how Lane had been replaced by Laine!
He was also thankful that Jack was a bachelor as well. He knew Laine
would come along quite well in his new role eventually but he knew there

making small talk.

house paying faint notice to Jack.
"We'll get the grill going for lunch," Ted mentioned.
"I still have some housework to do first and some washing," Laine said
as he entered the kitchen with Ted following close behind.
"Oh shit!" Laine said. "I thought you said your neighbors didn't come
around!" he gasped.
"I gave Jack the story and everything's fine. Just play the part, I'll
take care of the rest," Ted finished. "I didn't know we were grilling
out for lunch, and, you didn't invite him did you?" Laine said as his
mind reeled once again.
"It happens, just relax, act feminine, be yourself, you'll pull it off.
Just go with the story. You're already one move ahead because he
already thinks you're a knockout!" Ted said with a smile and a chuckle
that Laine didn't find funny. With that Ted left to continue with the
lawn work as Laine began with the groceries.
Ted and Jack were already on the patio, the yard work now done as the
grill was heating. "Hey baby!? Bring a couple beers out would ya?"
Ted said as the two men relaxed.
"Housework, and she's bringing you beers? Sounds like she's more of a
housewife than a roommate," Jack said with a smile.
"Well, I have known her for a while, we're working on it I guess." Ted
finished as they waited for their drinks.
I could see them out the kitchen window as I turned clicking on my heels
moving to the refrigerator to grab two beers and a wine cooler for
myself. I would have preferred a few beers but the blush color of the
wine cooler and the shape of the bottle make it look better than a beer
bottle in feminine hands. I knew I would have to really play the part
now and that thought in addition to all of Lane's clothing now being
