Poetry is space
And time between
Thought exploded
And perception
Imploded, when we
Need to be on our toes
And are too stunned
To exercise the cruelty
Of our prosaic selves.
Poetry makes us stop,
Look, and listen,
As if the distillation
Of God in us
Were a train freighted
With cosmic revelation.
For some, it must rhyme,
Exactly or nearly,
At least some times.
