You Are Not The Only One To Get Shifted!
When the Great Switch happened, and almost all people all over the
world were suddenly thrust into the bodies of random other people,
everyone - including those of us here at TV Guide - were too busy
adjusting to new bodies and the great mess that followed to do much TV
viewing. It was only a few weeks later that TV Guide editors began to
discover that similar changes had been made to all the TV shows being
broadcast. Everything from old classic reruns to new shows being shown
for the first time had been affected as well, even on DVD collections!
The good news for viewers... All of the old shows were just different
enough to make them new even to fans who had seen the episodes dozens
of times before. Here are some of our favorites!
TV Guide Picks the Best Reruns of the Week:
I Dream Of Jeannie
Jeannie is still trapped in Roger's body while Tony tries to
adjust to being in the very female form of Jeannie. Tony still can't
control his new powers or body well enough to switch them all back to
normal, although he finally gets Roger back into his own body again.
But Jeannie is now stuck in Tony's body instead of returning to her
own. They consider postponing their wedding as Tony has no desire to
be the bride and Jeannie wants to be the one to wear her beautiful
wedding gown - but no amount of wishing and blinking by either one can
swap them back to normal!
Meanwhile, Dr. Bellows and his wife refuse to believe that they
also swapped bodies and refuse to leave their house. Dr. Bellows
believes they are under the influence of the new hypnotist NASA hired,
but the hypnotist believes Dr. and Mrs, Bellows need to see a
psychiatrist, prompting Dr. Bellows to shout out in his wife's voice "I
AM a psychiatrist, you idiot!"
Xena, Warrior Prince
As a result of all the body-swapping in last week's show, Xena,
now inside the body of Hercules the son of Zeus, and Gabrielle who
occupies the former body of her best friend and new husband Xena, walk
hand in hand off into the sunset as the series comes to a joyous
conclusion.
Special Note: Next week, the all-new spinoff series 'Joxerella
and Ares' begins as the War God Ares, stuck inside the mortal body of
the klutzy Joxer, tries to date Gabriella again, not realizing that the
former Joxer now resides within the beautiful bard's form. Ancient
Greece will never be the same!
NYPD Blue
Will Andy finally bare his beautiful new female body to his un-
switched partner Danny? Last week's hot kiss between them was just the
beginning of their new relationship! (Actor Dennis Frantz changed his
name to Denise Frantz after he woke up in the body of actress Denise
Richards.
(An interview with the hottest actor turned actress in Hollywood
begins on page 12.)
I Love Ricky
Lucy Ricardo, still stuck in the body of her husband Ricky, makes
a big mess at the club trying to take the place of her husband.
Meanwhile Ricky keeps Lucy's appointment with her doctor and is
horrified to learn that he is going to be a mother is they don't find a
way to switch back to normal! Ay-yi-yi!
Buffy, the Vampire
Buffy takes over the Agency that Angel started in Los Angeles now
that she has shifted into his immortal vampiric body, but immediately
crosses paths with Cordelia who wants the old Angel back. Or to put it
in her terms, "If someone else had to become Angel, why not Zander or
Giles... Anyone but Buffy would have been better!"
Spotlight on...
Angel, the Vampire Slayer
The first of a two-parter has Angel adjusting to occupying
Buffy's body and a female human. He/she gathers the gang to go after a
group of vampires who all swapped into human bodies during the shift.
They are setting a trap for their old bodies so they can get bitten
again and turn themselves back into vampires. But the former humans
inside their vampiric bodies are too busy looking for blood at a blood
bank to see the beautiful new slayer in town catch up to them first.
Will Angel slay or help the former humans, or get caught in the trap
set by the ex-vampires? And will we finally find out who REALLY
shifted into Willow's body during the shift and why he or she has
pretended to be the young witch for so long! And where has the real
Willow been since the shift? Check out this week's Dawson's Creek
rerun for the answer.
Charmed
The three sister witches cast out during the Great Shift into
three male brother's bodies cast a spell to reclaim their true bodies.
But can even their powerful magic counter the effects of the Great
Shift, or have their powers remained with their former bodies???
Walker Texas Ranger
Sammo Hung of Martial Arts guest stars as Sammo, Walker's old
Martial arts instructor, now stuck inside the body of an eight year old
girl who must retrain Walker in the martial arts from scratch, as he
had shifted into the body of a young woman clerk at police
headquarters. Since his new female form is quite different, and his
new large breasts keep getting in the way, Sammo calls in a specialist
in busty bodies, Chesty Lebeau, a former stripper Walker had once
helped to leave that profession and follow her dream of becoming a
black belt in Karate. Loni Anderson, now occupying the body of her ex-
husband Burt Reynolds, appears as Chesty
Note. Chuck Norris continues in the role of Walker although his body
is now that of his wife.
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
Sabrina is grateful that witches like herself were not affected by
the Great Shift, but she still must to explain to Harvey that his new
female body just isn't her type anymore and that she is now dating
Valerie, the new star of the men's football team.
The Drew Carey Show:
With Drew off on an adventure in his beautiful new teenage girl
body heading off to Hollywood trying to become a movie star, the series
continues as his pals must deal with Mimi, still upset to be stuck in
Drew's old body and Kate, who plans to try anorexia as a solution to
her difficulties in dealing with the body she inherited from Mimi.
Touched by an Angel:
Monica must explain to a former beauty contestant how her being
shifted into the circus boy body of "Geppo - the boy with the face of a
dog" is all a wonderful part of God's great plan.
and now...
Cheers and Jeers:
A Jeer to the producers of "Frasier Unshifted".
The writers of this newly revived show have written many jokes
about switched individuals since the show was revived this season, but
do they really expect us to believe that not one of the five main
characters swapped bodies with anyone after the Great Switch just
because all five of the lead actors happened to be among the lucky few
who didn't swap in real life during the Shift? Come on, guys, No REAL
family came away unchanged in some way in real life. Maybe someone has
been pretending to be the father all this time, or Niles and Daphne
decided not to tell the others they swapped. Just because you all
lucked out and kept your talents and bodies both intact is no reason
not to reflect life accurately and keep the show real.
And a Cheer to the new Monday night Drama "Twenty-First Century
Turnabout"
This updated revival of a 1930s novel and movie is especially
funny if you recall that the two stars, Sharon Gless and John Shuck
were originally cast as the body-swapped couple in 1979 in a failed
sitcom series. It may have taken the great shift to make this idea
believable to most of America, or it might be the change in format from
a sitcom to an hour long drama. Perhaps it is the nude moments when
they discover the switch occurred during their lovemaking that make
Showtime and HBO series look tame.
But we believe the fact that the multiple Emmy winning actor
Gless, shifted in real life into a handsome young male body, now plays
a young woman stuck in the body of her husband, and Shuck, also an Emmy
winner who was shifted into a beautiful woman in her twenties after the
Great Shift, plays the young husband occupying his wife's beautiful
body that lends an air of gritty, yet sexy realism and authenticity to
this timely new drama hit. Their many decades of experience on stage
and screen bring nuances to the roles that more youthful less
experienced actors would not possess, making this new series Must See
TV!

The Sunday Night Movie:
"I Murdered My Wife After I Switched Into Her Lover's Body"
A man claims the Great Switch made him do it in this adaptation
of best selling author John Grisham's first post-shift crime novel
based on a real murder case.
(See the article on Ms. Grisham on how becoming a female has affected
her writing for the better on page 48.)
"The Real Housewives of Chicago"
In this first episode after the Great Switch, Jenny and Jill get
into a fight over which one has the bigger... (we'll just call it a
masculine appendage here). But the catfight quickly turns into a
slugfest when the former women lose control and let their male
testosterone run amuck, and the police are called to the scen by
neighbors.
Meanwhile, embarrassment ensues as their husbands Jon and Raymond
regret talking their wives into getting breast enlargment surgery as
they now possess what they desired and have to go shopping for bigger
bras and dresses when the bandages come off. And Donna takes her ex-
husband Larry out to dinner to discuss their body switch, and a few
drinks later they wind up in bed together.
"Survivor"
In the latest episode, we see the astonishing results of the
Great Switch, as the remaining survivors are shocked to wake up and
realize that they are in the wrong bodies, giving new meaning to the
tribal merge of last week! Sybil tries to hold her female alliance
together despite the fact that three out of four of her alliance
members are now in male bodies, including herself!
And the body switching brings together two enemies who suddenly
find unexpected support from each other and consider teaming up.
Host Jeff Propst (now in the body of the production company's
female doctor) must decide who can use the Hidden Immunity Idol - the
woman in the male body which found it or the man who found it, but no
longer has it in his new female body's possession.
Next week...
We look at cartoons, which being animated, did not make the switch in
bodies that even reruns of live action shows made. Should the Great
Shift be introduced into new cartoon storylines or will it make gender
roles even more confusing to a new generation as children are born and
grow up after the shift and remain one gender for life?
A panel of experts will explore the hot new topic even as the
characters of the Simpsons undergo the Great Shift next week in the
long-running Sunday cartoon series.
