Chapter 1
I guess you could say that I've always been a little bit different.
When I was little, Mom always told me that I was unique; A different
kind of little boy. And that I was destined for great things. I always
believed her too. I wanted to live up to her expectations. I wanted to
make her proud.
But she never got to see me grow up. When I was eleven years old, she
was diagnosed with cancer. By the time I turned twelve she was gone.
That was when I started to grow my hair out. Mom always told me that I
would look so nice with longer hair as long as I took care of it. Before
she passed I hadn't thought about trying it, but I knew that I could do
that as a tribute to her. And I've kept it long ever since.
Dad hated my hair more than anything else about me. It was bright blonde
just like mom's, and it fell down to the middle of my back just like my
sister's did. When I turned thirteen and started to look more like a
teenager, people started to ask if Allison and I were twins. I never
took it offensively. We even had similar names; Alex and Allison. I
didn't care if people thought I looked kind of feminine. I was proud of
how I looked.
Dad got a job in California when I was fourteen, so we moved there right
before school started. We were both very scared, Allison and I, since we
wouldn't know anybody in this new city. It was nerve racking, but it was
also very exciting. The beaches of California were so much more
luxurious than the streets of Boston. It was completely new.
But starting school was the worst part. My first day of high school came
and I had no idea who I was going to be talking to our hanging out with.
I thought it was going to be a disaster. Walking through the doors I
glanced around very meekly, hoping someone would help me.
And someone did.
"What's your name?" a pretty brown haired girl, looking a little older
than me said looking down at me.
"I'm... I'm Alex," I said shyly.
"Why you being so shy? This is California. No room for shy people here."
"I'm uh... sorry I guess..." I refused to make eye contact. I stared down at
my white tennis shoes the whole time.
"Oh lord. You gonna need some help around here. You're gonna hang 'round
me for a while. Okay with that?"
I nodded quickly, very relieved that someone was talking to me. And even
though Brianne was rather intimidating, she seemed nice.
And we have been best friends ever since. We were almost always
together, laughing all the time. But Christmas Break of that year was
when things really started to change.
"Hey, on New Year's we're going to have a little get together. Just me
and you and a couple of other people. You up to it?"
I shrugged my shoulders uneasily. "I don't like parties."
Brianne shook her head and grabbed my shoulders. "No no no it's not a
party! It's a get together! Come on it'll be fun! We gotta rock the new
year in!"
I sighed loudly. "Fiiiiine. I'll go."
Brianne jumped a little and squealed happily. "Sweet! Hey we have to go
to the mall after school today. I need something hot to wear to my get
together."
We met up at the mall right after school and I was dragging my feet the
whole way. I did not enjoy going to the mall with Brianne. She insisted
that we check out every store just to make sure we don't "miss
anything." So we almost spent long hours there going through every rack
and every piece of material.
"How about this?" Brianne said, holding up a black dress with a pink bow
on it.
"Looks great," I said, not even glancing at her. I heard her grunt
angrily and looked up at her.
"You're not even paying attention. I have to look good for this!"
I rolled my eyes, still not caring. "You look good in everything. Can we
go now?"
She looked down at the dress and decided to buy it. "Alright just one
more place."
Unfortunately, it was my least favorite place in the world. Victoria's
Secret. I was always so embarrassed to go in there. With the lingerie
everywhere it made me very uncomfortable.
"Feel these sweatpants," Brianne said, ooing and ahhing over a pair of
bright pink sweatpants. I reached over and grabbed them.
"Wow these are really soft," I said sounding very shocked. I had no idea
fabric could be that soft and it felt amazing on my hands.
"I bet they're really comfortable too," Brianne said still not letting
go of them.
"Yeah I bet. Anything that soft would have to be."
"Try them on!" Brianne shoved them at me. I looked at her very puzzled.
"Um. Yeah that's not going to happen. They're girl pants."
Brianne shook her head and pushed me towards the dressing room. "No
one's going to judge you! Besides, you might like the way they feel!"
I continued to protest, becoming more embarrassed and red faced as she
pushed me into the open dressing room.
"Now put them on or I won't let you come out."
I signed, giving in. The curtain closed fast behind me, blowing my hair
into my eyes. I looked into the mirror pushing it out of my eyes.
This is so embarrassing, I thought, holding the fabric up to my legs.
Even though it was very girly, I couldn't help but wonder how it would
feel on my body. I swallowed my pride and pulled off my jeans.
Keeping my eyes closed, I pulled the pants up over my boxers. Without
looking I realized just how amazing they felt. It was a sickeningly
sweet feeling; the way they wrapped around my butt and front side, and
the way the rubbed against my legs.
"You have them on?" Brianne asked from outside as she grew impatient.
"Yep..." I said reluctantly, finally opening my eyes. I was very shocked
at what I saw. My lower half looked just like a girl's. The pants were
so tight in the waist that it appeared as if I had a curvy lower half,
including a round backside. I hated the way I looked instantly.
"Come out!" Brianne shouted a little louder than necessary, and I slowly
walked out.
"They're really comfortable," I said smiling a little. I couldn't deny
that. It felt better than any article of clothing I'd ever worn and I
really enjoyed it.
"Buy them!" Brianne said, hitting my shoulder. "Actually, scratch that.
I'm buying them for you."
I shook my head quickly and in a panicked fashion. "No no no. I could
never be seen in these."
Brianne laughed, pulling a wad of cash from her purse. "You could just
wear them when you're at home or something. I'm buying them for you. Go
change back."
I decided it wasn't worth fighting over, so I changed back and let her
buy them for me.
"Dad's going to flip if he ever sees these," I laughed, thinking about
how my father would react if he saw me wearing girl's pants. I would
surely be beaten.
"Don't let him! They for when you're at home relaxing alone. Chill
days."
I nodded kind of liking the idea. I was home alone a lot of the time, so
I could use them pretty often. The comfort was worth the risk.
