“Oh, it’s safe enough,” she said, “There is nothing wrong with this place.”
Kari fiddled with some control box for a few seconds and then the skip started to move. “Quick, get on!” I yelled.
“I’m comin’,” she said and she ran and hopped on top of me.
She laid on top of me all the way to the top. The skip pulled all the way to the top of the head frame, which means we only had a short distance to walk to get out of the mine. Just then, another blast when off and we knew it was a blast then, because an entire side of the mountain came flying off with the explosion.
“Oh my god! Did you see that,” said Kari.
“Yeah, let’s get out of here now,” I said.
We threw our packs in the car and made tracks out of there as fast as we could. We didn’t even close the gate behind us when we left. I drove pretty fast going home, so it didn’t take as long to get home as it did to get there. Kari fell asleep on the way home, but woke up when we got into Grayson and hit the stoplights on the main drag.
“Are we home already,” said Kari.
“Yeah, thank god,” I answered, “We made good time coming home.”
“That was pretty crazy wasn’t it?” she asked.
“That was for sure,” I replied.
“I wonder what they were doing, more mining?” she asked.
“Maybe, but that is the only mine within a hundred miles of there,” I replied.
“There was something fishy about that whole thing, that’s what I think,” said Kari as she wrinkled her nose and made a funny face.
“Maybe there will be something about it on the news tonight,” I said knowing full-well that Kari was right and that there was something fishy going on up on that mountain.
As we pulled up to the condo, it felt good to be home. Kari looked at me and said, “Please tell me that we can sleep in a bed tonight.”
“Of course we can sweetheart!” I replied.
“I like it when you talk sweet to me like that,” Kari said as she gave me a hug outside the car.
It was so nice once we finally got into bed and snuggled together. Kari was the sweetest thing I had seen in a long time and she was all mine, at least for the time being.
“Did you have a good day Kari?” I asked
“I did until the explosion,” she said, “That was nuts!”
“Yeah, it was most definitely nuts for sure,” I said.
“I would love to lick your snatch, but I am too tired,” said Kari.
“It’s okay, there is always tomorrow,” I replied optimistically.
“Tomorrow and the next day and the next day?” she asked.
“It would be really nice if you decided to stay with me for longer than a couple days,” not trying to sound too attached, even though I totally was.
“Kari wrapped her arms around me and squeezed me tight and said, “I am going to stay with you forever and ever, if that’s okay with you.”
“That would be really nice,” I said, as I dozed off with that little cutie in my arms. I felt very lucky to have her in my life and my bed. I had a lot of cute girlfriends, but none as striking as her. There was something about her that made her unique, unlike any other girl I had ever seen, yet she apparently lived a life of abuse and neglect. She was too good for that and she knew it.
