Christi's realtor's was bucking the trend. Whilst others had stagnated or
gone under during the housing slump, Christi's kept on increasing its
turnover and profit year on year. Competitors would analyse Christi's

Jack's first real talent is that he is a fantastic reader of character.
When individuals or couples first come into his office, he can quickly
deduce what stimuli and what approaches they will best respond to. With
couples, he is also able to understand quickly which of the two is the
prime decision maker and how he can work that dynamic to his advantage.
Though all human interactions are complex and nuanced, Jack broadly
characterised human traits into masculine or feminine. Are people
persuaded by hard selling or more subtle persuasion? Do they respond to
masculine certainties or feminine detail? Do they listen to a more
authoritative male voice or a more reasoned female one? Jack can intuit
this in the behaviour of all of his clients and is a master at adapting
his behaviour as conversations progress, and as his understanding of the
characters he is talking to deepens.
Jack's other talent is the one that really makes his business the runaway
success that it is. It is also the reason that he loves his job so much.
Jack's competitors thought that Jack employed a beautiful young female
agent named Cari, who is responsible for closing well over 50% of their
deals. Many of them had even tried to lure Cari away from Christi's, with
offers of dramatic salary increases and crazy bonuses, only for their
offers to be firmly and finally rebuffed.
What none of them can possibly know, because he works so hard at the
deception, is that Jack and Cari are the same person. Because of Jack's
ability to read people, he can quickly work out which of his personae to
employ to best effect. S/he will set up a follow up appointment with
clients on a day when the appropriate character can be deployed. It is
undoubtedly Cari who is the real star of the set up and Chris found that
more and more of his time is spent as Cari.
How Cari looks and dresses is an important aspect of this. Jack/Cari take
detailed notes on each new customer, which help her to determine how to
dress and what characteristics to emphasise on that follow up
appointment. So, although Cari has always to appear as the same person,
with consistent hair and eye colour (Cari had dazzling green eyes, whilst
Jack had dark brown), Cari will spend time cultivating those aspects of
her appearance which help her to work on individual client's
characteristics.
Some days her breasts appear a little bigger than others, with clothing
that accentuates this detail even more. On other days she will appear in
glasses, or with suit skirts that reach down to her knee, or sometimes a
couple of inches above. Cari finds that details such as these, if planned
well, make her job of persuasion that much easier.
Cari employs her charms in different ways with different clients. As a
female she has license to touch her clients more than as a male, be it a

shoulder. She has found that women, as much as men, respond to this more
tactile approach. She has learned when to demure to the 'superior'
intellect of a client or when to hold their gaze and challenge their

She does of course also flirt with customers of both genders. This can
take the form of words, for instance complementing them on their acuity
and their powers of observation and maybe sharing a made up intimate

when to hold eye contact that fraction of a second longer, when to cross

feminine charms on men. If she goes too far, there is a chance that they
might act too rashly and the consequences for her, and for the business,
could be extreme. Over time she has learnt how to control men's desires,
so that after half an hour with her, they are be eating out of her hands
but at the same time wary about upsetting or offending her in any way. In
short, Cari can play them beautifully without ever finding herself in an
unwanted compromising situation.
One warm summer's day earlier this year, Jack was sitting in the office
working through some admin, when in walked a familiar face that Jack
could not immediately place. The man began by saying that he was after a
specialist property in the area, with swimming pool, space for a gym, off
road parking for more than 10 cars and so on. As he was talking, Jack
realised that this was a famous footballer, Jason Sterling, from one of
the big teams nearby. Jason was famously handsome, with an athletic

ensured that the rest of her diary that morning was clear and spent that
little bit longer than usual getting ready.
First she had a long soak in the bath with her usual oils to soften her

She slid elegantly behind the wheel of her small but sporty company car
and set off for the near countryside and her meeting with Jason. She

"Please don't worry. I'm certainly not about to complain if you are who I

Cari thought that she did know what he meant, and found herself wondering
where this was going.
She did not have to wait long for an answer, but it did not come in the
form of words. Jason stepped out in front of her and looked her deeply in

what I do. It will be very hard for me to see you often, but I really
hope that we find a way to get together again."
"That's easy," Cari responded, not quite believing what she was about to
say. "Let's just say that this house is not quite right for you. Next
time, just ring and make an appointment with Jack, and he'll find another
unoccupied building for me to show you around. It's a perfectly normal
thing for you to do, and no one need be any the wiser about us."
On hearing this, Jason smiled broadly and pulled her back to him for one
last, long kiss.
